A couple of years ago about this time I announced here that trend reports were calling 2020 the year of the dress. Well that trend flopped for obvious reasons. Ha! But now that we’re starting to get out and about a little more, the “year of the dress” predictions are sounding again. And this year I think it will actually take off. Truly, I’m itching to wear pretty dresses in the colors of the season. So today I’m sharing 2 spring dresses in 2 spring color trends…for 2022!

2022 Color Trend: Green
One of the 2022 color trends that I’m most excited about is green. Yes, green in all shades and worn in any piece. Green is one of my signature colors (and the color of my eyes!), so I love wearing green. This year I’m finding a multitude of spring dresses in shades of green from pistachio to emerald, and they look so fresh, vibrant and hopeful.
Not only is green trending, but wrap dresses are almost universally flattering. Because you can make a true wrap dress (as this one is) fit your individual body, getting that well-fitted silhouette is effortless. This Lavinia Jersey Wrap Dress has a nice heaviness to it for a beautiful drape. But it feels like and easy on the body. The wrap nicely folds over itself so I don’t worry about modesty issues with this one. And I love the folded down collar accent.
This Lavinia Jersey Wrap Dress runs true to size, but I went with my larger size just in case. I’m wearing a 10 and I think that gives me the extra width I need in the shoulders. But otherwise, the 8 would have worked well, too.
Pro Tip: I suggest you register with True Fit, a feature used on many retailers’ websites for fit calculations, to get your true size. You’ll see their little red boxed T on many websites right around the size selections. Once you register you’ll get size recommendations on any website using the system, and I find them to be very accurate.
Under my dress I’m wearing the Commando fitted slip. I don’t even know it’s on, but it provides the smoothing I need with a close fitting dress like this one. I’m also wearing the Donna Karan “the nudes” pantyhose. Yes, you absolutely can wear hosiery. Just make sure that they are sheer and in a tone close to your skin tone. And I prefer to only wear them with closed toe shoes. And I really do suggest buying the best quality hosiery you can afford because quality really matters in this undergarment.
I think one of the prettiest ways to style spring dresses is with your shade of nude. Whether your skin is creamy white, golden brown or deep mahogany, wearing shoes in a similar shade will help set off your green dress beautifully, creating elegant lines and the most subtle framework. I’m wearing my Classic Pumps from Ally Shoes, for whom I am an ambassador. These bossy beige classic pumps fit my skin shade beautifully, but Ally offers them in a wide range of shades. These are hands down the most comfortable pumps I’ve ever worn. I can wear them all day. And Ally works with you to get your size right, even accepting returns and sending you out another size if needed. My readers get $40 off your first pair of heels at Ally with code KAYHEELS or 10% off your first pair of flats with code KAYFLATS. These shoes are an investment you won’t regret.
Note: I recently received the taupe patent leather Kitten Heels from Ally and they are stunning. I’m wearing them tomorrow to Abby’s bridal shower. So if you need a shorter heel option, check them out!
Maintaining the pared back coloring of my accessories, I carried this washed tan crocodile tote and wore simple gold and pearl jewelry. My pearl necklace is no longer available, but I expect us to see more pearls debuting soon at Kendra Scott. I’m wearing my gold finished split hoop earrings and gold filigree bangle. And I completed my spring look on this blustery day with my classic taupe trench coat. Mine is from Talbots and they’re not offering a taupe one this year. But Ann Taylor has an equally classic trench in taupe (as well as vermillion red and spring daisy yellow) and they’re 30-40% off with code FRIENDS.
I’ve collected other beautiful green dresses as well as the items I’ve shared here in the shopping widget below. And I’ve got another beautiful spring dress in another color trend below that!
2022 Color Trend: Big, Bold Colorful Prints
The next color trend we’ll be seeing this spring and summer is big, bold colorful prints. And one of the garments I’m seeing this trend come to life in the most is the dress. It only makes sense because a dress provides you with enough fabric to create those vibrant, colorful patterns.
I chose to try a midi length dress in a vibrant print. This Maggy London Floral Wrap Front Midi Dress is not a true wrap dress like the one above. But the gentle wrap and ruching in the front do help to give the bold print dress more definition and a feminine silhouette. I think details like that are very important when choosing a dress in a bold floral print. That kind of definition and shaping will help you not to get lost in the print.
The slenderizing silhouette, deep v-neck and flutter sleeves also help to give this dress definition and keep it ultra feminine. I think this would be a lovely dress for a spring wedding guest, especially an afternoon or outdoor wedding. And if you paired it with gold heeled sandals like these it could even look beautiful for an evening wedding or other dressy affair.
By the way, this beautiful colorful dress also comes in plus sizes HERE. I think the side ruching and the v-neck make this an excellent choice for a woman with more of an apple or oval shape.
But I chose to wear my Dolce Vita slide sandals in cafe, so this time I didn’t wear any hose. Before I actually wore this dress with bare legs I would probably prep my legs for a couple of days with my favorite self tanner, but on this day I still had winter white skin. Ha! (You can try out my favorite self tanner in a travel size and receive the mitt I use here.)
While the dress may seem a little long to some of us, midi lengths are really trending this year. Still, if needed or desired you could have this dress professionally hemmed for a shorter length.
I considered wearing white and blue enamel jewelry with this dress, but in the end I decided to create a more elevated look with bold gold pieces. I like the light and shine they add to the outfit while still keeping the tone very elegant and dressy. My earrings are no longer available, but these would work nicely with my shimmery gold rings necklace and bold gold stretch cuff (now marked way down!).
I finished off my look with my ivory Coach pebble leather camera bag. While I love the idea of carrying a clutch bag to dressy occasions, I find that a small bag with a long shoulder strap is a smarter choice. That way I can slip it onto my shoulder while balancing a plate and drink in my freed up hands.
I’m loving both of these spring color trends and the idea of celebrating the year of the dress. What about you? Are you looking for special occasion dresses? Or do you envision wearing casual dresses for daily activities? And what do you think about this color trends? Will you be participating in either of them? I’d love to hear from you today!

Do you every question God’s faithfulness? Oh maybe you didn’t mean to. You sing Great is Thy Faithfulness and mean it. But it’s only human to occasionally wonder if God has perhaps overlooked you or, worse, chosen to ignore your prayers. Then, before we know it, we’ve replaced the true God with one of our making, based on our perceptions instead of the truth of God’s Word.
Today I encourage you spend a little time reflecting on God’s true nature. Go back to the God of the Bible and grab hold of the truth you find there. He is good. He is the one true God. He is indeed faithful. Note how sometimes He does indeed take time – long years and even decades -to show Himself visible in a situation. But He is always at work, and always for your good.
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. ~ Deuteronomy 7:9
Thank you so much! I learned when I was younger that the length of the coat should match the dress. I notice that your trench coat does not. Is that a problem?
Nope. That’s one of those rules that needs to go. I do think it looks great when your coat covers the full length of your dress, but it’s just not always practical or possible.
I love dresses. I wear them a lot in the Spring and Summer. The long dresses look nice on you, but like you mentioned, I would have to have them hemmed. My Kelly green dress from Talbots is on the way and I will probably have it hemmed as I am short. I like the Boden green dress you kept, but even looks longer than the other one.
Loved the BFMD. All I can say is Amen.
Have fun today all of you.
Thank you for today’s blessing!! I need to hear this today!!!!!
Your dresses are beautiful. They look great on you. Not all of us are tall with a well proportioned figure. I’m 5’3” with all my weight in the middle. I can’t seem to find any dress that looks good on me. Any suggestions?
Hi Sue, actually either of these silhouettes would work well on you. True, you might do better to find them in a petite for proportions, but the features in these two dress silhouettes are almost universally flattering. You could probably do well with these exact dresses and then take to a seamstress for hemming. The petite bloggers I know say they have almost everything hemmed.
Kay – I luv dresses! I have quite a few so not sure I will purchase any this year. I generally look for more casual ones as I don’t attend many events requiring a really dressed up look. I wear toeless pantyhose with dresses if I feel I need to. They work with sandals- my skin is not what it used to be! Most of my dresses are knee length but I do have some long skirts. Yes I will participate in the colours of the season likely more in tops. Thanks again for your post and spiritual encouragement.
Where can I go to register with True Fit? I tried to Google it but nothing came up. Thank you for all your fashion advice and tips.
I was afraid that might be a little confusing when I shared it. True Fit is just a feature on many clothing websites that you can use to get your best sizing in different brands. They use it at J. Crew, Madewell, Boden, and others. Not all brands use it. You’ll see it when you get to an item and you’re choosing your size. It’s really helpful when it’s available.
I’ve been patterning an outfit and jewelry for a wedding in Texas with your advice. The wedding is in the evening next month. I plan on wearing the Nordstrom 2 tone flats. I did not however plan for hose. My dress is free flowing and solid navy with grommets in front and the length will be a little past the knee. Would it be a fashion faux pas to not wear hosiery? I’ve not tanned, but I do have a colorless tanner I could try, if I need to.
Absolutely no need to wear hose unless you want to. It’s probably still more current NOT to wear hose, but I just wanted us to all understand that we CAN wear hosiery fashionably and confidently.
Another great hosiery brand (Kate Middleton supposedly wears it) is Falke. They are relatively expensive, but add a little color to your legs without screaming, “I’m wearing pantyhose!” Their Shelina Ultra Sheer Toeless Tights even work with open-toed shoes and some sandals.
I love a midi length as it covers more of my “”white legs” when not wearing hose. I use leg makeup at times and there is less area to cover with the midi length dress or skirt..
Wow, you look absolutely terrific in both of those dresses! I love green and also those bold floral prints. Bold florals aren’t too romantic and depending on the cut of the dress, can be worn by any signature style. I love the variety of styles and colors of both the green dresses and the floral prints.
And THANK YOU for all the accessory information, including undergarments. It’s easy to pick a beautiful dress, but it’s much trickier to make sure the foundation garments and accessories really enhance the look. Just one of the reasons I love your blog, Kay.
Both dresses look beautiful on you…I especially love the green one! I’m so glad to hear that hose are acceptable.
