Happy Friday, dear gals! Do you have big plans for the weekend? We’re just continuing to unpack here. And we’ll try to take some photos for next week, too. Believe it or not I found time to hit the mall Wednesday, so I have some great outfits to share with you. Meanwhile, I’ve gathered up photos from previous blog posts to share with you 7 ways to style a denim skirt.
While I wore my denim skirt a little during the summer, I find myself wearing them more in the spring and fall when I’m trying to come up with transitional looks. A denim skirt is one of those wardrobe essentials that just lends itself to such a wide variety of styles.
It’s easy to take a simple denim skirt – of any style, really – and make your overall look appear more spring and summer-ish or more fall-like. I’ve gathered up five denim skirt outfits and I’m offering tips for making the looks even more fall appropriate.
Denim Skirt Style #1 – with a floral shirt
Ok, this post was really a summer outfit post, thus the sandals. Ha! But here’s the thing. Number one, those sandals are on sale for a song now. So check them out. But, number two, you can easily switch out the sandals for almost any of these mules for a less summery look.
Also, that particular print is no longer available in the blouse, but there are three other prints, which are even more fall-like. Or you could check out this darker floral front tie shirt.
Here’s a shopping widget with several other great floral shirts to pair with a denim skirt for a feminine and flirty look.
Denim Skirt Style #2 – with a solid sandwash top
This look is about this time last year, so none of the original pieces are available. But it’s easily duplicated with the items in the shopping widget below. What I love most about this look is the ease and comfort of the sandwash top.
Denim Skirt Style #3 – with a button up shirt
Maybe it’s just because I only tried on this skirt and shirt combo a couple of weeks ago for this post, but this is definitely one of my favorite looks. You just can’t beat a denim skirt and a classic button up shirt…in a modern print.
I’ve gathered a few more modern prints in button up shirts for you to consider here.
Denim Skirt Style #4 – embroidered skirt with a tie neck tee
Here’s another blast from the past look. But I still love the femininity and casual vibe of this style. This is a Reba skirt and top, and I don’t like either of the Reba denim skirts I’m finding online right now.
But I do like the subtle embroidery on this denim skirt that’s available for a great price at Talbots. You could duplicate the look above with this skirt and this tie neck 3/4 length sleeve tee.
I’ve gathered a few more pieces to copy this look in the shopping widget below.
Denim Skirt Style #5 – with a novelty tee
Here’s another look I photographed in my recent try-on session at Talbots. This one is the same skirt, but with a sweet novelty tee.
I apologize for the poor photograph. But this is another favorite of mine. I do like a pretty novelty tee with a denim skirt…or jeans! (I consider a novelty tee to be a little different from a graphic tee, which you’ll see in a minute!)
Denim Skirt Style #6 – with a graphic tee
I modeled this look earlier in the summer. But all you’d have to do to bring it into the early fall is swap out the sandals for leopard flats or booties.
I just love the edgy vibe of a graphic tee with a distressed denim skirt. Here are some more fun graphic tees to duplicate this look with. (Hmmm. I may have gotten a little carried away!)
I think I may have to order one or two of those! Which is your favorite?
Denim Skirt Style #7 – with a white tee
This final look probably feels quite familiar to you if you’re a regular reader at Dressed for My Day.
Again, this is a more summery look with my sandals. But switch out the sandals for shoe-booties and you’re definitely rocking fall…even if it still feels like summer!
You could add almost any other early fall completer to this look besides the utility jacket, too. Consider an open cardigan, a fun leopard print blazer, a snake print denim jacket or a kimono. Oh, and the secret weapon in this look is the leopard print belt!
So there you have it! Seven ways to style a simple denim skirt. Of course, you’d need a denim skirt to get started. Don’t have one? I have one final shopping widget for you. And of course, it’s filled with denim skirts!

Some people are turned off from reading the Bible because they claim it is too hard to understand. Indeed, even Scripture confesses that some of it is difficult to grasp.
But instead of getting hung up on what we struggle to understand, we are wise to apply what we do understand. If you’re struggling with a passage of scripture, here’s a key to abide by: The plain things are the main things and the main things are the plain things.
Honestly, let’s not let the mysterious nature of God’s Word keep us from reading it. As we apply what we do grasp, God joyfully opens up our understanding to more and more of His Word. And indeed, aren’t you glad that you’ll never exhaust the wisdom of God? There will always be more to learn!
There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ~ 2 Peter 3:16b-18a
I appreciate You and so many options! Happy Birthday to James.
Great options here! Enjoy the weekend. Happy birthday to James.
You look great in all of your denim skirt outfits. I don’t have one in my closet because they just aren’t my thing. But I know that I could recreate your looks with a pair of my jeans. Happy Birthday to James! Have fun celebrating!
Have a great weekend! I love the skirts. I just don’t wear them. I do love the embroidered one, it looks spectacular on you.
I love everything about your blog and wanted to express my appreciation for all that you bring to us. Thank you!
