Happy Wednesday! It’s time for another YouTube video. Today I’m sharing seven year-round wardrobe essentials that I have in my closet all the time. And I wear most of these so frequently that they end up costing me pennies per wear. Do you have these seven items in your closet?

Have you visited my YouTube channel?

On YouTube I’m able to connect with you a little more closely and provide tips that don’t translate as well through blog posts. You’ll find videos to help you style your favorite pieces in multiple ways, tips for duplicating the looks you love and outfit ideas for every season. I upload new videos every Wednesday. I’d love for you to SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube Channel.

Today’s Video

If for some reason the video player doesn’t load properly on your device, you can access the video on YouTube HERE.

Shop the Video

I’m providing shopping widgets with a variety of option for each of the 7 wardrobe essentials I shared today. All of the outfits shown in the video are from my archives and many are quite old. So I’m not sharing shopping information for all of those. But I will share a few links to old posts in which I styled each of the 7 wardrobe essentials, and you’ll probably find them there.

You’ll find chambray shirts styled in the following blog posts:

White Button Up Shirt

Warm Casual Friday Work Look

I don’t actually have very many posts featuring my white button up shirts. But I plan to rectify that soon! Watch for me to style the Talbots Perfect Shirt this winter and spring multiple ways. I did style it in Warm Casual Friday Work Look.

Black Pants

You’ll find black pants styled in the following posts:

My favorite Nic+Zoe black pants are 55% off today. Yay! You’ll find other options in the shopping widget below, too.

Silk Blouse

You can see how I styled my silk blouse casually at Style Formula One: Top This!. Unfortunately, my silk blouse is sold out in ivory, but it’s available in a dusty red here. I’ve linked to similar ones and other options in shopping widget. Be forewarned. These are generally expensive. But you could also substitute a “silky” polyester blouse for this essential. I couldn’t include them in this shopping widget, but you may also want to check out Lily Silk.

Black Blazer

My black blazer is the one I wear all year, but you could also have a blazer or blazers of other colors that you keep in your closet all year. Surprisingly the 1901 blazers are completely gone from the Nordstrom website right now (they’re a Nordstrom exclusive brand). But I expect them to be restocked. My Veronica Beard dickey scuba jacket is pricey, but I’ve found it to be a wise investment. I’m linking to a full variety of black blazers in the shopping widget below.

You can see how I styled my black blazers in these posts and videos:

Nude Pumps or Flats

I didn’t even show the nude pumps I’m wearing these days. I purchased these reasonably priced Karl Lagerfeld nude pumps in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and absolutely love them. In the video I’m mostly wearing these pumps by Sam Edelman.

My nude flats are no longer available, but I’ve linked to several pretty options in low heels below.

See how I’ve styled nude pumps in these posts:

Other Posts Mentioned:

I also mentioned my Building a Wardrobe that Works for You series in today’s video. You can find all of those posts and more through the menu bar at the top of my website or HERE.

Thank you so much for stopping in today for my discussion of the 7 year-round wardrobe essentials I have in my closet. If you have questions, please let me know. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

Several years ago I lost a significant friendship. It turned out later that I realized that relationship had been pretty unhealthy all along. So often I had run to that friend with all of my needs to vent, to express myself. I had looked to her as my primary sounding board, causing me to neglect other friendships and even my husband.

Now I realize that God is my best sounding board. When I carry my deepest (or my most shallow!) feelings to Him, it is safe and healthy to express them there. I can cry out to God freely and with great emotion…and He hears me with a loving heart. When I choose God as my primary sounding board, He is so much more than that. But that also keeps my heart and my relationships with people, including my husband, more healthy and vibrant. Who are you running to with your deepest emotions and needs for conversation?

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! ~ Psalm 4:1

xoxo, Kay

  1. Kay, Many years ago I learned to go to the Lord and talk to Him with all my problems. Friendships with other women can develop into unholy sounding boards. It was a hard lesson to learn but praise the Lord I got it! Thank you for talking about that today!

  2. Great post! You give such great advice and love the options you present. I love a white blouse especially the Style Formula One blouse, but I have silver (solid white) hair and feel a white blouse matches my hair!

  3. Hi Kay, and thank you for always sharing your faith! Today’s lesson is especially timely! Happy New Year (hopefully)!

  4. So great to watch your video today while having my cup of coffee. Welcome back! I have purchased many of your suggested items throughout the year and they will be part of my closet also for many years to come! So many of your clothing suggestions and styles are timeless! Looking forward to seeing what you will be suggesting and recommending in the new year.

  5. The Blessed for my Day is so true. While it’s fine to share some things with our friends, I learned long ago that it can lead to judgment and unsolicited advice. It can become a habit to be complaining rather than dealing directly with issues. God is our most reliable source for all our joys and sorrows. He alone can guide our path. Helpful video today too! I do like those Perfect Shirts from Talbots. Especially that they are no-iron!

  6. I thought of one essential I have and love in my closet…..leopard flats!
They just add fun and interest to so many outfits in my closet.
Thank you for all you do for us!

  7. I am going through my closet on a very serious note today Kay. This information will be very helpful in doing this. It is so hard for me to do this but I am gonna do it, I have to😜.

I am so glad Abigail made it home safely.

    Blessings,
