Happy Friday! Do you have anything special planned for Memorial Day weekend? I think we’re going to try to get out and explore a little tomorrow. Be sure to check back here tomorrow, too, for the scoop on Memorial Day Weekend Sales. Yippee! But first let’s check out the final of four ways I styled my sage green secret stretch casual utility slim pants from Chico’s. Today I’m sharing a green and navy look.
Pairing navy with this soft sage green was really a no-brainer. But I made sure the outfit looked right for spring and summer by including a lot of white in my tee and wearing light neutral accessories.
I think this decidedly sporty look is appropriate for many work environments. But it’s also a nice choice for dinner and a movie (one of these days!) or most any other outing.
Of course this navy blazer is such a versatile topper, and I can wear it year round. I’ve owned the black one (currently 50% off) for a couple of years now and have definitely worn it through all four seasons. I just recently purchased this navy one when they marked them down 40%, and you’ll still find it at that price.
These 1901 blazers are made in a nice 95% cotton 5% Spandex that allows the jacket to mold to your body and move with you. They’re beautifully lined, too. I find them to run true to size if you like a snug fit, like I do. Or size up if you want it a little roomier. The sleeves on this navy blazer seem a little longer on me, so I just cuffed them up. I find that this little styling trick makes the blazer look more current and casual anyhow. But you can also have them altered to fit at Nordstrom (once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted).
Remember, the main place you want your blazer to fit is across the shoulders. Here’s a little trick to help you know if the shoulders fit you correctly. Put the blazer on and stand up against a wall with your arm touching the wall. If the shoulder of your jacket touches the wall and smooshes in as you stand up against it, the jacket is too wide in the shoulders. If you stand against the wall and the shoulder doesn’t even touch the wall, it’s too narrow.
Since I’m already wearing two colors (green and navy) plus a neutral (white) in this outfit, I wanted to keep my accessories “quiet.” So I chose to wear my taupe pointy toe leather flats. These simple, comfortable flats are the perfect touch to elongate the leg and keep the look elevated but casual. I have them in my usual 9.5 and find them to be very comfortable. The Italian leather molds to your feet with a little wear and they grip your foot nicely, not slipping when I walk.
The Everlane Day Market Tote in taupe is not an exact match for the flats, but it doesn’t have to be. Both shades of taupe are on the “cool” side, so they work beautifully together.
I kept my jewelry classic and dainty, just enough to add some sparkle and interest to the outfit, but not so much as to look busy. Both my Kendra Scott Veronica Hoop Earrings and Olive Necklace are 20% off this weekend.

Do you ever find yourself in situations where you wish so badly you could do something to make a difference, but, in fact, your hands are tied? Or perhaps you want to fix a difficult situation for someone you love, but it’s not your battle to fight or quandary to solve. I think we women can all relate. When we care deeply for those in our lives, it can be frustrating not to be able to make things right for them.
I think King Jehoshaphat’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 20 is a good one to paraphrase at such times. Desperate for solutions, but unable to make a dent in the problem on his own, the king cried out to God for help. But he also acknowledged God’s ability, past history of intervening and His character. Let’s remember today that, while we may be powerless and clueless, God is, in fact, powerful and able. Then let’s watch and see how He works in our midst.
O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” ~ 2 Chronicles 20:12
So, I just placed an overseas order for these pants, which means I have to pay duty and shipping, but since they were about half price after putting them in my shopping cart, I figured now I’m basically paying full price for them. That’s just the price you have to pay when ordering something from the States and having it shipped to Europe. I don’t do it often, but these pants look like a good summer alternative to jeans or shorts so I hope it’s worth it. 🙂 I also ordered their gold shimmer ruana wrap, and I thought I could pair the sage pants with a white or black tank top, the ruana and some gold metallic slides for a slightly dressed up summer look. Thanks for highlighting these pants, Kay.
Oh my! The pressure’s on! Hahaha! I hope they work nicely for you. I really do like them for a nice lightweight alternative to short for summer. They’re very comfortable and light. And like I said earlier in the week, I’ve ordered my 3rd pair! Thanks for letting me know. ☺️
Kay, this has been a great series! I honestly don’t know which look I like the best. I am wondering how this last outfit would look with white sneakers for a different vibe. I have pinned the 4 looks graphic. Great BFMD! It sounds like you and James have a nice Saturday planned. It’s going to be in the 90’s here, with high humidity, and on & off rain/storm chances, so we are just going to stay at home. Stay safe!
Yes Ginger. As I was typing today’s post up I wondered why I did wear it with white sneakers. I think that would look great’
Have a great weekend, Kay! Enjoy exploring! We are just going to have picnic food to celebrate Memorial Day. I like all of the looks, especially the one today. I will pin these looks to my Pinterest board today. I’ll be sure to do this each day.
Thanks for BFMD. We are powerless, but God is all powerful.
God Bless you and your family always and in all ways,
Suzanne
I like the navy with the green the best. Love that blazer but rarely get dressed up enough to wear one. Plus it’s so hot here in south Tx that I can only wear them a few months of the year. Have lots of jackets that don’t get much wear. But I’m a big Chico’s fan and think I’ll order the pants as they do look cooler than jeans. Love your blog and especially your BFMD. Would enjoy doing a Bible study with you.
Actually they were so discounted at only $35 I ordered the green and the opal. Thanks,Kay. 😊
Great! Good to hear. 😊
I really appreciate series like this! It’s so helpful to see how to simply change up basics. Thanks! By the way, I think this look is my favorite!
I purchased these pants a little while ago in “sand” or some name like that. They are so comfy. I hope others also order them because they will not be disappointed. I already have pants in the colour shown here. I love all the looks you show here and think I will be able to do them with both the matching colour and sand pants. I have almost everything in my closet to make a version of all these. Thanks to this weeks you tube video I know I don’t have to do a copy to get the sense of an outfit. Loved the video.
Great to hear, Catherine. I think the color you’re referring to is the opal. I’ve ordered those too and look forward to trying them out. I’m glad you enjoyed the posts and the video. 😊
I love all four looks but it’s just too hot here to think about a jacket. I can sometimes sub a summer vest for the jacket but in this case you really need the jacket. I’ll save this look for early summer next year because classics like this don’t go out of style. I do need the green pants though.
BFMD is always a blessing!
Today’s look is my favorite from this series! Great job on showing us choices and how to put together 4 outfits with unique looks from one item!! I also really enjoyed your Wednesday video!! Keep up the great work!
