Happy Monday, dear gal. We are now officially into summer and I’m gravitating to the oh-so-cool lightweight pieces in my wardrobe these days. What about you? That’s why I thought you might like this navy & white embroidered top. Psst! I have it in all white, too! But I love the classic appeal of navy and white for a soft but sophisticated summer look.
You can see how I styled this embroidered gauze top in all white in this previous post. But I’ve actually worn both colors of this peasant type top multiple ways. They’re both so very versatile.
You do not need to worry one bit about this pretty feminine top wrinkling…because it absolutely will! But that’s part of the charm of this easy breezy blouse. I’m wearing a size Medium for a generous, easy fit.
As of Sunday evening when I’m typing this post, this pretty navy and white embroidered top is not marked down. Bummer. But it’s still fully stocked, so there’s that! You can “favorite” it in the shopping widget below if you’d like to receive a notification when it goes on sale.
Meanwhile, definitely check out these 56% Cotton, 40% Rayon, and 4% Spandex white ankle pants because they are seriously marked down. These Hampshire ankle pants actually also come in navy and a delightful buttercream yellow. After wearing my white Chatham ankle pants for over four years, I decided it was time for some fresh white trousers. And I love the creamy smooth texture of the slightly thicker fabric from which these Hampshire ankle pants are constructed.
Since we’re approaching Independence Day, I decided to have a little fun and just wear my new Vera Bradley Red, White & Blossoms flip flops. When I got them they were buy one get one free, but that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. They run true to size; I’m wearing a large for my 9.5 size foot. These flip flops are very comfortable…for flip flops. They’re not highly cushioned or anything, but the strap feels very comfortable.
I did tuck the shirt in gently in the front, but let it hang loose the rest of the way around my waist. I didn’t bother with a belt, but you absolutely could add one here if you prefer. I know I’m going to be asked if this shirt is thin and see-through. Yes and yes. But not to the point that I feel I need to wear a camisole. You absolutely could if you wanted to. But I don’t think it’s necessary as long as you wear a flesh colored bra.
Also, I think I would ask if the elastic in the sleeves is comfortable or if it pinches. It is indeed very comfortable, just lightly clinging to my arm, not pinching me at all.
Finally, let’s talk jewelry real quick. I kept it classic and understated, but I also didn’t skimp on it. My necklace, earrings and beaded bracelet are no longer available, but I’ve included alternatives int he shopping widget. My enamel bangle, however, is available in white, blue and green.
My sweet straw clutch is also still available. It’s such a nice summery option, and holds all my necessities nicely: lipstick, keys, reading glasses, sunnies, card case and, alas, a face mask. Speaking of face masks, I picked up a few from Vera Bradley the same day I got my flip flops. They’re so comfortable and pretty, too.
By the way, if you like this navy and white embroidered top, you may also like this navy and white embroidered gauze a-line dress. Oh so lovely!

Blessed for My Day
Sometimes when I sit on my back deck and the sun feels too warm I seek the shade. I have to inch my chair a little closer to the house, which is protecting me from the harsh rays of the sun. In the same way, some days it feels like my circumstances “heat up.” Misunderstandings abound, people’s emotions surge around me, information comes flying at me in an overwhelming rush or difficulties intensify. Can you relate?
That’s when I need to scoot a little closer to my God. The Bible tells me that I can abide (stay put and get comfortable) in His shadow. And unlike the shade I seek on my back deck, God’s shadow does not shrink or disappear. Instead, I can dwell in the shelter He provides if I will simply draw close to Him. That means I need to read His Word, share my thoughts and emotions with Him in prayer, call out to Him when I need direction or hope, cling to His promises and character and meditate on His Truth. Let’s seek the Lord today so that we can take refuge in the shadow of the Almighty.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. ~ Psalm 91:1
Dear Kay……I needed to hear what you said today and thank you for your words from the Lord.
I love navy/white and this top is beautiful. I’m thinking of getting the white slacks of which I love the gold buttons on the side!
Thank you for your blog and I truly enjoy getting the emails every morning.
Blessings,
Dear Kay……I needed to hear what you said today and thank you for your words from the Lord.
I love navy/white and this top is beautiful. I’m thinking of getting the white slacks of which I love the gold buttons on the side!
Thank you for your blog and I truly enjoy getting the emails every morning.
Thanks Holly. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog. Thanks for letting me know the words resonated with you. Take good care of yourself and be kind to yourself, too. 💕
I too needed to hear those kind words today as well. It actually made me cry hearing your much needed words of encouragement. I am loosing my mom to Alzheimer’s and last week was a horrible one. Almost too much to bear. Thank you for sending love to me, a complete stranger.
On a lighter note, I love the blue embroidered top! I’m thinking buying it might cheer me up just a tiny bit?!
Thank you for your blog. I always look forward to it!
I’m so sorry about your mom, Jacquelyn. I know that has to be extremely difficult. I pray that this week has more joys than struggles, more light moments and fewer trying ones. May God help you see the blessings amidst the hardships. You are on my heart. 💙
Beautiful top and slacks! The combination looks great together and of course, on you. There is something about navy and white that is so classic and so beautiful.
Thanks for BFMD also. Everything you share is timely, especially today’s post!
God bless you, Kay.
Suzanne
Love this post! The outfit is beautiful for all the reasons you gave and you are beautiful wearing it but the email encouragement and BFMD blessed my soul! Thanks so much for the reminder that “I am an influencer and can set the tone for any room I enter”. Wise words that I needed this morning!
Yes! I’m so glad that resonated with you. Indeed you are so influential. Make it a great day!
Thank you Kay for your kindness. I love the summer blouse. It looks refreshing. Enjoy your inspirational messages.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the post. And I really appreciate you letting me know. 😁
Thank you for the BFMD! I needed that also. With the social distancing continuing with Covid 19, I become discouraged not seeing family and friends as much as I need to. You are such an encourager! I’m thankful you are allowing God to use you in this way.
Ooh, I’m right there with you. Boy, we need community, don’t we?! Meanwhile let’s trust that God is a sufficient companion and He is meeting every need we have. 🥰
It took me a while to get on board with your blog, but man do I need the styling tips. I’m 58 and many times at a loss how to dress not only appropriately, but comfortably – gone are my 20’s and 30’s when it was normal to be uncomfortable just to look good. No more, I say!
My youngest Millennial is moving out soon, so I decided that I deserve to splurge on myself with quality clothing from the higher-end stores that I used to avoid. Sales always welcome! I hope to use your widgets soon.
I feel led to your blog by our loving God! The words of encouragement in today’s email and in your blog were such a nice affirmation for a Monday.
Your newest fan,
Terri
Hi Terri. Well welcome aboard! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. Indeed our clothing preferences, styles and tastes evolve with time and season of life. And I think it’s so important to keep pace. We have so much to offer. And we’re more likely to show up, step up and speak up if we feel appropriately and beautifully pulled together. But amen to comfort too!
In fact I was just minutes ago thinking about how this recent pandemic has caused me to shift even more toward comfortable clothing and how I’m ready to embrace that all the more while staying fashionable and current. Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh Kay, thank you, thank you for those incredible encouraging words today! God knows just what we need, doesn’t he! I appreciate you! And your outfit is so cute and cool looking! I’m not sure where you live, but it was 106 yesterday in Roswell, NM! And yet you look cool and perfect! Thanks too for the scripture and message of faith! Have a very blessed day, sweet lady!
Oh my. That’s hot! I’ve been to Roswell, so I know exactly where you are. I live in Cincinnati but we’ve been here less than a year. Before this I lived in Georgia, Texas and Arizona, so I know hot! But my wardrobe has changed a good bit this year with the new climate.
I’m glad you enjoyed the post and the email. Have a lovely afternoon.
You are always so encouraging. I love the comments on this post too. We are all in a common struggle each day but remembering we have a resting place is so important. I feel so much for those who are care givers. God bless you.
This is so pretty and I love the details of the gold buttons and the cute flip flops.
Thanks so much for sharing your kind words, Eve. It’s always good to see you stop in. 🥰
Thank you for your uplifting encouraging message! I am starting a new chapter in my life and needed that message. My husband passed 6 years ago and Ive been frozen in place… Finally deciding to move back to our little town where we met in high school. A huge frightening step to build a new home on my own. So as this 70 year old heads to the other side of the state tomorrow to see my first glimpse of the home to be done by September. I know I can do this. I crave the peace of small rural community in these stressful times. Im blocking all the negative advise and heading out in the morning on my 500 mile drive. Thanks Kay, I (think) Ive got this… Can’t be harder than waiting for my husband to return from Vietnam, having 2 breach births, and finally the hardest was caring for my husband during chemo. 70 is the new 60….
Wow! You are being very brave and I think it’s great. We have to be courageous sometimes. Otherwise, like you said, we can get stuck in a place we were never intended to stay that long. Blessings on your new adventure. I wish you all the best! 🥰
Hi Kay, I love the encouraging email, and your beautiful outfit. I am really enjoying your posts, and being part of your facebook page. Thanks for all you do! God bless!!
Thanks so much for letting me know, Cindy. You gals are a blessing to me. 😊
Kay, You look so nice in this beautiful navy and white outfit!
What a great opening and BFMD! The people that my step-son, DIL, and 21 yr. old granddaughter are around regularly are really big influencers on their lives, and that saddens me. We live 3 1/2 hrs away, due to Larry’s high risk we definitely have to stay away from them now, and while we have a good relationship, it’s not a great one, so I have to use a lot of caution when communicating with them. Some of the things they post on social media are so disgusting and lacking in self respect, that I have decided to not follow them on Instagram. I have been and will continue to pray for them daily because they need a relationship with God. My step son was brought up in the church, but for some reason he no longer believes in God or prayer. So so sad!
I hope that you had a beautiful Monday!
Thanks so much for your comments, Ginger. Hang in there with your kids. I’d simply suggest keeping a relationship with them. But it’s quite appropriate to have boundaries too. Bless you! 🥰
