Well, yesterday it was all black and grey and today I’m going with classic black and white. It’s time for a summer style palette cleanser, part two! For those of you who just love to wear color, color, color during the summer…I get you! Your challenge, oh lover of color, is to check out my classic black and white summer outfit and imagine how you would bring a little color to it.

Simple Black & White Summer Outfit

As I said in yesterday’s post, I think I’m more of a neutrals gal at heart. While I’m drawn to trending colors in the store, I really prefer wearing classic neutrals like black, grey, white, brown or navy. When I wear colors, I feel like they shine. When I wear neutrals, I feel like I show up. Don’t over analyze that. Hahaha! I could feel completely differently about it tomorrow! LOL!

I’ll give you just a few seconds to realize that today’s black and white summer outfit is composed of the exact same essentials as yesterday’s look, but in different neutrals. I’m wearing another of the Marcy fitted crewneck t-shirts, this time in black. This Mott & Bow wardrobe essential is amazingly soft and has a very nice drape to it. It doesn’t have the heft of my other t-shirts, but I actually like that here. It skims the body more. That’s why I sized up to a large for this black t-shirt.

Next, I swapped out my black relaxed fit chinos for my similar white chinos.

white chinos

My white chinos run true to size and they have just enough stretch to aid in mobility and give you lots of comfort. Can you see through them? Sure. A little. But not to the point that it’s a problem. Just definitely wear nude toned undies. (I recommend these! I wear the soft tan. Right now these great panties are buy 3/get 2 free.)

Now let’s talk a little about the composition of this outfit, shall we? I intentionally kept yesterday’s black and grey look very pared down and understated. I just love the minimalist look of black and grey.

But when it comes to black and white, I like to throw in bold splashes of gold or silver, take your pick, animal print and/or other textures. So…I did a little of all the above. Ha!

I could have worn a bigger statement necklace, but since I also added a hat (similar), big gold filigree earrings and a bold bracelet (comparable option), I decided to keep my necklace noticeable but a little on the dainty side.

gladiator sandals

My black gladiator sandals with gold studs have been marked down at Nordstrom, but they’re also selling out. They are available in several shades and run true to size. they’re quite comfortable, but not the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn or anything. You’ll find a bigger selection of sizes and colors at Zappos. I love the way the gold studs add interest and a little edge to this outfit.

I got my hat at Target last year, and I’m not finding this exact one on the website this summer. Never fear. I actually like this packable boater hat with black trim even more. Don’t you?

black and white

For those of you who have been eyeing my reversible black faux leather tote, it’s RESTOCKED! Woohoo! And this versatile bag also comes in two other color/pattern combinations, too. Do I ever turn the leopard print to the outside? Yep, I sure do! See this post to get a glimpse of the animal print side.

Now isn’t that a snazzy outfit??? Just because it’s lacking color doesn’t mean it’s missing charm. But if you wanted to add color, I’d simply suggest adding a chunky necklace and/or earrings in the color of your choice and then pick that color up again in your handbag or shoes if possible.

Blessed for My Day

Want something with sticking power? Read God’s Word. Jesus promised that heaven and earth will eventually pass away, but His words will not. When we put our faith and hope in things of this earth – whether they be relationships, possessions, experiences, goals, man’s wisdom, or what have you – we will eventually be disappointed when they fade, either in value or existence. But when we plant Jesus’ words or the words of the Bible in our hearts and minds, those words have eternal effects.

Share with me a scripture that you are currently planting in your heart and mind, if you will. How are you going about doing that? Are you memorizing it? Meditating on it daily? Have you written it down and posted it in a prominent place? Or maybe you’re sharing it with other people. How are you clinging to the one thing that will not pass away?

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. ~ Matthew 24:35

  1. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.

I memorized this a few years ago, and I quote it to myself almost daily. I think we could all use that peace in our hearts and minds, especially as there are so many uncertainties in our lives right now. I love the verses that follow this passage too, as they tell us he things we SHOULD think about, rather than focusing on all the problems and negativity. I need to remind myself of this today. I pray God’s word brings peace to others as well.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing Jennifer. I love that passage and the one that follows, too. We definitely need to choose wisely what we dwell on. Have a lovely day! 😊

  2. Like the outfit, Kay. You always manage to make an outfit shine with style.
John 16:33: “These things have I spoken to you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (KJV) This verse has been a blessing to me for many years. Difficulties and trials are no match for the peace Jesus gives to us.
    Have a wonderful day, Kay.

  3. I definitely fall into the neutral category and black & white is so classic during the summer. I am also a casual girl so I would wear sneakers with this outfit…and I have a snakeskin pair and a leopard pair that would be perfect to add that touch of interest.

  4. You look so fabulous today! I tire of all of the colors at times as well so thanks for this reprieve. I need to focus on scriptures about JOY! Seems Satan is winning that battle in my heart lately and he is not invited to stay Praying you and yours stay healthy!

    1. Thanks so much for reading and sharing your thoughts, Merri Lynn. I have a sign in my kitchen that reminds me to “Count your blessings and in all things find joy!”

  5. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isaiah 40: 6
I have loved that verse for more years than I can remember. It reminds me that no matter what changes I go thru, I can rest assured that God is never going to change and He is always there for me.
As much as I love wearing color, I also love wearing black and white, with maybe a splash of color in my necklace. Your sandals are fabulous!
I wish you a very blessed and enjoyable day!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing, Ginger. Yes the eternal nature of God and His Word brings us assurance and security don’t they! Thanks.

  6. Oh Kay…..can I just say how cute you look in a hat!! Love this one. And the white chinos look very comfortable.

    Blessings,

  7. The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you, the Lord lift his countenance upon you give you PEACE.” Numbers 6:24-26

There’s been so much loss recently, therefore anxiousness. I read, write and share these verses often.

You look great in that hat❗️

  8. I think black and white can be just as dramatic as any other color combo. It is dressing in solid black or gray or even navy that I keep away from as I get older. A mix of neutrals is never boring to me. I love metal jewelry too. A fried just sent me a handmade copper necklace that is just looking for the right top.
Always, always blessed by your faith posts.
