What I Purchased in the #NSale – Styled

August 10, 2020

Happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend. I managed to just sit still a little bit, but we also enjoyed having some friends over for a properly social-distanced gathering on our back deck. And Sunday I enjoyed attending one of our worship services and then working a little in the afternoon. Monday always rolls around quickly!

Today another round of Nordstrom cardholders will begin shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Are you a Nordy Club Influencer? If that’s you, prepare to begin shopping today at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time, 6:30 a.m. Pacific time. And I hope you’ll shop with me!

I’m simply sharing exactly what I purchased in the #Nsale, but I’ve also “styled” the items in graphics. I thought that would be more fun (for you and me!) than just sharing them in a shopping widget. (My packages start arriving today, so you’ll soon see a few items really styled. Meanwhile, graphics will have to do.)

Of course, I won’t be keeping all of these items. I’ve even purchased a couple of sizes in several of these, so of course I’ll be returning at least one of those. (I may or may not have accidentally ordered 5 pair of one particular pair of jeans!!! #nsalemadness) Remember, shipping and returns are FREE.

But extra sizes aside, I’ll still be returning some things. You’ll see several high dollar garments in my list, and since I do shop by a budget, I can only afford to keep one or two of those (maybe three!). And then I’ll sort through the other items, too, until I get back within my budget.

Anyhow, enough of all that budget talk! It’s a necessity of course. Especially if we’re going to shop the NSale like a BOSS! But I’d rather look at all the pretties right now and then I’ll deal with that 6-letter word later. Ha!

First up, I purchased a beautiful new year-round special occasion dress and a camel coat that is a definite keeper.

Special Occasion Dress & Dreamy Camel Coat

Since this stunning currant Tahari sheath dress is less than $75 in the sale, I’ll definitely keep it if it fits nicely. Fingers crossed! I think it will serve beautifully as my one semi-formal dress for weddings and other special occasions throughout the year. I just don’t dress up much for church anymore, so I don’t need more than one such dress. And this one will serve as my LBD, but in deep pink. This Tahari sheath dress also comes in navy.

Dress & Coat I bought in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Tahari sheath dress // Halogen camel coat // Karl Lagerfeld Royal Pumps // L’Occitane Shower Oil // Lancome Definicils Mascara Set // 2ct tw Cubic Zirconia Earrings

The one purchase (well, there are two actually) I do know I’ll be keeping for sure is this Halogen camel coat. It arrived Saturday, and it fits like a dream. It’s the camel coat of my imagination, honestly. I couldn’t be more pleased. So, so, so elegant. And I think the price fits the quality to a T. Unfortunately, this Halogen camel coat is almost sold out. But watch for restocks because I bet lot of women ordered multiple sizes and will be returning one. (Here’s another beautiful option and yet another.)

I’m hoping these nude Karl Lagerfeld Royal Pumps will work nicely, too. The pumps I have now are really too high, so I don’t wear them. I’m hoping these will fit and suit me better. They’re a great price for quality pumps, if they are indeed good quality.

Of course, I had to order my holy grail mascara kit and I thought I’d give the L’Occitane Shower Oil a try. Oh, and the 2ct Cubic Zirconia Earrings are actually a birthday present for someone, but I thought I’d show them here.

NYDJ Jeans & Madewell Cardigan

I’ve never worn NYDJ jeans before, but I thought I’d give these Marilyn Straight Leg Jeans a try. As you’ll be able to tell from all my selections, I’m looking for a pair of slightly edgy, lighter wash jeans as well as a pair of black skinny jeans. I ordered two pairs of these since I’m not sure of the sizing.

straight jeans and cardi
Madewell Kent Cardigan // Marilyn Straight Leg Jeans // Gibson Blouson Sleeve Wrap Top // Vince Camuto Arendara Booti // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag // Argento Small Hoop Earrings // Adina’s Jewels Round chain link necklace

The Gibson Blouson Sleeve Wrap Top would brighten my wardrobe up and serve as a nice everyday top over jeans. It comes in other colors, too. Above, I’ve topped this simple duo with the popular Madewell Kent Cardigan in Bengali indigo.

I got to see the Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag at my shopping appointment at Nordstrom last Thursday. It’s dreamy! I just haven’t decided if I’ll keep one, and if I do whether I’ll keep the black or the brown. I’m looking forward to trying the Vince Camuto Arendara Bootie in tortilla suede. I think they’ll work well with most any length of jean.

Coveted Camel Blazer

I tried on this L’Agence Chamberlain blazer at my shopping appointment Thursday in sizes 6 and 10, so I know the 8 I ordered is going to fit perfectly. I have forever wanted a camel blazer, and I think this one checks all the boxes. It’s made of a beautiful, rich fabric that drapes nicely, has a longer length, but is still tailored in the waist for a feminine fit. But, yes, it’s quite pricey. So I have to weigh things out and make a decision on this beautiful blazer.

camel blazer
L’Agence Chamberlain blazer // Wit & Wisdom Absolution Skinny Jeans // Steve Madden Forever Chain Pointed Toe Mule // Argento Small Hoop Earrings // 1.State smocked neck flutter sleeve top

While the blazer is really pricey, these Wit & Wisdom Absolution Skinny Jeans are really…not. They’re less than $50, but they’re supposed to be a great jean for the price. I’ve tried Wit&Wisdom before, but not in a high rise, so I’m looking forward to giving them a try.

I’m also eager for the Steve Madden Forever Chain Pointed Toe Mule in tan suede. If they’ll stay on my feet (and that’s always the quandary with mules!), they’ll be a versatile everyday shoe, especially in the fall and spring.

Oops. I almost forgot to mention this beautiful 1.State smocked neck flutter sleeve top. This one is available in two blue calico prints, both are so pretty and feminine. But it’s also available in several lovely solids here.

I’ve Been Looking for a Faux Leather Blazer!

Well, really I’ve been looking for a real leather blazer…just long enough to realize I’ll never be able to afford one. Ha! But this Theory Peaked Lapel Faux Leather Blazer is said to feel like the real McCoy. I’m hoping it does. But I’m also hoping it’s large enough in the arms, which is where I always run into trouble with leather jackets. It should arrive today, so just ask if you’re curious.

Faux Leather Blazer
Theory Peaked Lapel Faux Leather Blazer // Cece puff sleeve crepe top // 7 for All Mankind High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans // Steve Madden feather loafer // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag

I think this green Cece puff sleeve crepe top will add a little color and femininity to my wardrobe, but will also be extremely versatile. Green is one of my signature colors. But it’s also available in other equally alluring shades.

I’ve had good luck with 7 for All Mankind Jeans in the past, so I’m hoping these 7 for All Mankind High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans in grey will fit the bill…and me! The Steve Madden feather loafer also comes in a tan suede and black leather.

Indoors & Running Errands

This next outfit is the kind I expect most people are shopping for. I tried the Zella Live In Joggers in the store, but had already ordered them that morning. So I know they fit beautifully (I wear a medium) and feel divine. They’re going to work well with this Indoorsy Long Sleeve Tee, which has already arrived, but they go with so many other casual options, too. By the way, the Indoorsy Tee runs a bit large, but I’m keeping my roomy medium.

joggers & Coat
Indoorsy Long Sleeve Tee // Zella Live In Joggers // Linea Paolo Wedge Sneaker // Bernado Packable EcoPlume Hooded Walker Coat // Halogen cashmere scarf in burgundy punch

I didn’t get to try the Linea Paolo Wedge Sneaker in the store, but I already have one pair from last year and know that they are amazingly comfortable and oh so chic. I probably shouldn’t, but I’m probably going to keep these, too.

I’m hoping to pick up a new black or dark grey puffer coat in this sale, so I’ve giving the Bernado Packable EcoPlume Hooded Walker Coat a try. I’ve ordered the black, but it also comes in garnet. I’ve heard great things about this coat. Oh, and I decided to order the Halogen cashmere scarf in burgundy punch to add a punch of color to my outerwear or outfit. I purchased a light grey Halogen cashmere scarf last winter at the end of the season, and the price was no better than this.

Sharp but Comfortable Working Girl

Almost everything in this next look was a last minute purchase (on my double points day!), so I’m not really sure about keeping any of it. But I do absolutely like every piece. I’m going to be in trouble if it looks and feels great on!

turquoise blouse & coat
Lauren Ralph Lauren Houndstooth Wool Blend Coat // Vince Camuto Rumple Fabric Blouse in rapture blue // Argento Vivo sterling silver pearl frontal necklace // Sam Edelman Evelan Chain Mule Loafer // Halogen Kick Flare Ponte Knit Crop Pants

The Halogen Kick Flare Ponte Knit Crop Pants come in an array of really interesting and pretty colors, but I just ordered the black. If they’re comfortable, they could be a real option for daytime wear this fall. And they’re less than $50 in the sale.

And I do love the Vince Camuto Rumple Fabric Blouse in rapture blue. What a pretty color! But there are other nice ones, too. And don’t you think those Sam Edelman Evelan Chain Mule Loafers are stunning?

Monochromatic & Chic

I tried on this next look at my shopping appointment and got hooked. Hahaha! My stylist ordered it for me (the sizes were wrong at the store), but I don’t know if I can justify keeping it. I have to say, this monochromatic olive green is stunning on. But it would almost have to be my Sunday morning uniform to justify keeping it.

green monochromatic
Vince soft Tailored Crop Pants in dark olive // Vince V-Neck Wool & Cashmere Sweater in olive // Paul Green python print pointed toe loafers // Argento Vivo Layered Chain Necklace // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag // Argento Small Hoop Earrings

Have you ever worn Paul Green shoes? That’s what my stylist asked me before I tried these python print pointed toe loafers. Oh. My. Word. Y’all those came home with me. They are a splurge, but I’m fitting them in my budget because they are the absolute most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet. And they’re stunning!!! The photographs do not do them justice at all.

Cashmere Hoodie??? Yes and thank you.

Well, actually this Vince Cashmere Hoodie probably will go back, simply because I prefer a few other high ticket items more. But isn’t it sweet?

green hoodie sweater
Vince Cashmere Hoodie // Mother Looker Ripped High Waist Fray Ankle Skinny Jeans // Soft Somers III Mule Sneakers // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag // Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

I also know that these Mother Looker Ripped High Waist Fray Ankle Skinny Jeans are going back. I actually picked these up at my local store Saturday and they just don’t fit me well. No matter what size I tried – and I tried 29, 30 and 31 – they don’t work on my body. They go on, zip up, button. But they just don’t work for me. They are extremely comfortable jeans and have a great reputation, so they may work beautifully for you.

I’m eager, however, to try these Soft Somers III Mule Sneakers. They’re supposed to be amazingly comfortable, and I think the cognac leather snake print looks so interesting and rich.

light grey jeans & Veronica Beard Sweater

Veronica Beard wool blend v-neck sweater // Rag & Bone Nina high waist ankle cigarette jeans // Steve Madden feather loafer // Argento Vivo Layered Chain Necklace// 2ct tw Cubic Zirconia Earrings // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag

I’m definitely looking forward to trying these Rag & Bone Nina high waist ankle cigarette jeans. I love the looser fit (we’ll see if they fit that way on me!) and the ankle length as well as the light wash. The pink Veronica Beard wool blend v-neck sweater would definitely be a splurge item, so I’m not sure it will make the cut. But again, it would definitely add some pretty color to my otherwise neutral wardrobe.

The North Face Parka

I’ve heard great reviews on this The North Face ThermoBall Eco Hooded Parka and am eager to give it a try. I love that it’s packable, too. I don’t think we’ll see the price any lower at the end of the season.

Vince v-neck wool blend sweater // The North Face ThermoBall Eco Hooded Parka // Naturalizer Jenni Low Top Sneaker // Madewell 9 inch high waist skinny jeans // Halogen cashmere scarf in burgundy punch

The Naturalizer Jenni Low Top Sneaker has already arrived and it is extremely comfortable. Extremely. And I love the interesting style elements on this winter sneaker. But it has to compete with the wedge sneakers I bought, so we’ll see.

The Vince v-neck wool blend sweater would be a splurge, so it’s definitely in the running. I’ll probably pick one of the sweaters you’re seeing here to keep and send the others back. But I saw another blogger trying this one on the other day and she was swooning. I’ve tried the Madewell 9 inch high waist skinny jeans in blue denim and loved them, so I’m hoping this black pair will work well. The price point is really good.

Versatile Dress for Now & Later

I ordered this Eileen Fisher V-neck Knit Dress in hibiscus on Friday and it arrived Saturday. This dress is absolutely lovely. It just glides over the body and creates such a pretty silhouette. So comfortable, chic and versatile. Yes, Eileen Fisher is generally expensive, but that’s why this sale is such a good time to pick it up. I feel like the price – at least at sale price – definitely reflects the quality of this dress. And honestly, no offense to these lovely models, but I think this is one of those dresses that actually looks better on a more realistic womanly figure. Just saying.

Eileen Fisher V-neck Knit Dress // Sam Edelman Evelan Chain Mule Loafer // Argento Small Hoop Earrings // 42 Gold Liya Slide Sandal in sand suede // Adina’s Jewels Round Chain Link Necklace

Unfortunately, the Eileen Fisher V-neck Knit Dress is sold out in hibiscus, but it’s still available in black. If you’re interested, snap it up fast. It will sell out. And I’m hoping that the hibiscus will be replenished as returns start coming in.

I think either of these shoes will be pretty with the dress, but I’m especially interested in trying the 42 Gold Liya Slide Sandal in sand suede. I think it would make such a nice versatile heel for dresses and jeans in the fall.

Easy Casual Separates

This casual Caslon Drape Collar Knit Blazer should be a very versatile fall 3rd piece. I love that it’s comfortable, but also dresses up an outfit a little. This would be great for work-from-home conference calls. And it’s under $50 in the sale.

Caslon Drape Collar Knit Blazer // Frame Puff Sleeve T-Shirt // Steve Madden Calf Hair Loaf // Wit & Wisdom Luxe Absolution High Waist Crop Jeans // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag // Argento Vivo Layered Chain Necklace

The Frame Puff Sleeve T-Shirt is a little pricey, but I wanted to check out the quality. Frame is supposed to have lovely tops. We’ll see if it’s worth the price. Of course, the Steve Madden Calf Hair Loafer will be oh so versatile. The Wit & Wisdom Luxe Absolution High Waist Crop Jeans are a great price and I’m hearing good things. I look forward to trying them on.

Fall Look with Leopard Print & Red

To me, fall is leopard print and red. So I’m anxious to try this Socialite Crewneck T-shirt in leopard. It’s also available in snakeprint, and seems to be fully stocked. This is a GREAT PRICE for a trendy tee.

Socialite Crewneck T-shirt in leopard // Madewell Kent Cardigan // Frame Le Original Ripped High Waist Crop Jeans // Vince Camuto Arendara Booti // Coach Courier Leather Convertible saddle bag

This is the same Madewell Kent Cardigan I showed above in Bengali indigo, but I think the Etruscan red will be pretty with the leopard print. I have high hopes for the Frame Le Original Ripped High Waist Crop Jeans and have ordered them in two sizes.

By the way, I love the selection of Tory Burch handbags in this year’s sale. But I decided against ordering one since I’m still enjoying the four I already own.

Gifts

This last collection is the gifts I purchased in the sale. Of course, the Patagonia Quarter Zip Pullover is for James’ birthday. He’s already tried it on and given it a firm two thumbs up.

Patagonia Quarter Zip Pullover // 2ct tw Cubic Zirconia Earrings // Argento Vivo sterling silver pearl frontal necklace // Barefoot Dreams Lite Long Weekend Cardigan // Nordstrom Wine Rack // Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

Abby asked for “diamond earrings” for her upcoming birthday, so she’s getting these 2ct tw Cubic Zirconia Earrings. I think it’s safe to say here that the Argento Vivo sterling silver pearl frontal necklace goes to my daughter-in-law since I’m sure she doesn’t read my blog. But I better not say who’s getting the Barefoot Dreams Lite Long Weekend Cardigan. (And that’s if I don’t snag it for myself!) I’m holding onto the Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve for a Christmas stocking stuffer for my son.

Well, except for the Peri Home Medallion comforter and sham set I ordered to try in our bedroom, that’s pretty much what I ordered. There may be a few loose items I didn’t manage to fit into one of these style boards, but I’ll try to share them later.

Don’t forget to check out all my other favorite picks in my NSale Favorites pages. I couldn’t order everything I liked, of course.

I’ve also created a widget with all of my purchases. These are all affiliate links. If you purchase anything while shopping through them, I potentially earn a commission, but at no cost to you. Thank you for shopping my links. I appreciate it more than you know.

  1. Thank you for the posting. I am fortunate as I still have a black leather blazer, it’s been hanging in the closet, ignored for several years. But several blogs that I follow are listing it as a -need to buy item. I will be shopping my closet for other strays. Thanks for all your efforts and suggestions. Have a great week.

    1. Yes, definitely pull that leather blazer out and either enjoy it or, if it just isn’t your bag, sell it. I think you could definitely sell it easily. But first I’d suggest wearing it. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. 🥰

  2. It’s all beautiful! Can’t wait to see some of it on you! Again… just wishing we could go somewhere to wear pretty things! I went to a socially distanced baby shower on Saturday and it was so exciting to get to wear something cute! Love ya!

    1. Oh I bet! Yes, just to get out and about would be so nice. I really think athleisurewear is going to continue to be the daily uniform for most of us this fall. But one of these days… Thanks for reading. Love ya back!! 🥰

  3. Well I just did some damage through your links. I love Wit & Wisdom and don’t have the lighter wash luxe ones you showed so I added them to my bag. I also ordered the black leather tennis shoes (I have them in snake print and love the fit), the Soft mule sneakers in gray, and the Ecco booties in navy. I live in casual shoes/sneakers year round. I also ordered the Zella joggers because so many bloggers rave about these…we shall see. I really wanted the Barefoot Dreams cardigan in the animal print but it sold out. That’s okay, I have several cardigans from this brand and LOVE them…didn’t really need another. Thanks for your comprehensive posts. I appreciate the time and effort put into them…very helpful.

  4. What a great post, Kay! I have restricted myself to only purchase items that I need to add to my closet. There are so many tempting items available, but I have to maintain control. I like all of my W&W high waisted jeans, so I hope that you will find them to be comfortable. Coming home from my PT today, I passed an accident scene, that looked sort of bad, but all of the fire fighters were just standing around talking. Well, I have learned that two adults were killed and one juvenile injured in the one vehicle accident. I have been saying prayers for the families that are getting horrible news today. And I have thanked God for watching over me when I’m on the road.

    1. Oh my. I’m so sorry about that. I always hate seeing accidents. Makes me so sad. Take care out there! Thanks so much for reading.

  5. So sad about the accident. Special prayers for the child. 🙏🏻 I wonder if it was the child’s parents that were killed.
I love the sweaters. Especially the pink V and the red cardigan. Those Paul Green shoes are something else I like in snakeskin. That color is great. Fun post!

  6. That Tahari dress is gorgeous! I had it in my cart, but it’s sold out 😔 Can’t wait to see you style it, regardless. The color will be fabulous on you!
