Happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a great week and that you’re looking forward to a good weekend. I’m surprised to report that we still have some beautiful colors on the trees in Ohio, mostly red maples. And we’ve had lovely weather this week to enjoy the lingering days of fall hues. But today I’m focusing on the end of this month when we’ll be celebrating a new kind of Thanksgiving. I’m sharing a casual Thanksgiving Day outfit idea that could serve you well no matter how you’re celebrating.
In my recent post How to Work with Contrast in Intensity when Creating Outfits, I shared how you can create the harmonious looks by using low contrast in intensity. So while the outfit I’m sharing today may be a little on the “dark side,” I think this blend of black and cabernet is still very easy on the eyes.
You’re going to love the price point on these stretch cotton joggers from Wit & Wisdom. Not only does this brand consistently offer good quality at a reasonable price, but these contemporary pants are currently 35% off. Score!
I love the banded elasticized hem on these 97% cotton, 3% spandex joggers. Plus they feature side zippers at the ankles, adding a little edge and interest. These utility joggers are available in a full range of sizes (as I type this post)from 00 to 18. The joggers fit true to size; I’m wearing my usual size 8. I’m wearing them in Cabernet, a deep wine color, but they’re also available in Mr. Mushroom, which appears to be a mossy brown.
Also note the length. I’m 5’8″ and these pants hit right below my ankle bone. I’ve paired them with my lace-up Captain boots in Old English leather. And yes, I absolutely am wearing black crew socks with this duo. It’s cold here, y’all! And many of my readers frequently ask me how to wear socks with today’s pant silhouettes. So I decided to just go for it and wear these “real woman” style! I don’t think the socks are all that noticeable, and they’re just a necessity in some climates…including mine!
Really I think these pants are perfect to wear with my lace-up Captain boots. The boots are an investment, but lace-ups are trending right now. I bought mine last year and have really enjoyed them. The Old English color that I’m wearing is on back order, but there are eleven other colors to choose from. Do size up .5 from your normal sneaker size. Thursday Boots feature true high quality leather and craftmanship at reasonable prices.
By the way, I purchased these faux leather lace up boots from Target last year and really enjoyed them, too. So these are a great alternative at a much lower price point if you want to give this trend a try but not invest too much.
I topped this edgy pairing with a classic black v-neck cashmere sweater from Talbots. I think the juxtaposition between the modern pants and boots and the classic sweater give this look added interest without really trying too hard. I’m wearing a medium in the cashmere sweater. If you don’t want to add another cashmere sweater to your wardrobe right now, may I suggest a knit blend v-neck in black or a cableknit black sweater. Either would help you achieve the same look, and I think a black sweater is such an essential piece in a modern classic closet.
I pulled this look together with a gentle front tuck. But instead of wearing a black belt to match my sweater I opted for the brown side of this reversible leather belt to coordinate with my Old English Captain boots. I kept my jewelry simple with my Elisa multi strand necklace, classic hoop earrings and classic bangle (comparable).
Whether you’re actually heading out to eat or celebrate with family or you’re just getting out for a stroll to walk off the calories, adding a puffer vest with a faux fur collar will keep you warm and stylish. Mine is from last year, but Talbots has a similar one this year. I purchased the green one for an upcoming collaboration and I find it to run a bit large, but I haven’t yet tried the small for comparison.
Finally I carried my classic black satchel from Michael Kors. This particular bag is no longer available, but this one and this one are comparable, and they’re both on sale. I love Michael Kors for beautiful structured bags (another classic wardrobe staple). I just added the silk scarf to the bag to add a little color and light to my outfit. It’s from a previous season and no longer available, but this one or this one would work beautifully.
I’ll have more casual outfits to share with you before Thanksgiving, of course. So if this one’s not your cup of tea or it doesn’t really fit your plans, stay tuned. There’s more to come!

Blessed for My Day
I’ve had hang-ups and habits that I thought I’d never be able to break free from. What about you? Honestly, I’ve also had patterns of sin that I shamefully thought I’d never be able to break. But I’m here to tell you that I did indeed break free from hang-ups, habits and even sins that had a throttling grip on me. Praise the Lord! I never could have broken out of those prisons of bad behavior if it weren’t for the freeing power of the blood of Christ and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
If you’re battling an addiction, a co-dependency or debilitating thought pattern, I’m here to tell you there is hope. And if a sin has captured you in a spiral of self-defeating compulsion, you need to know that you, too, can stop it. Oh, yes, you can. I know it may feel hopeless right now. I get it. I’ve been there. But lift your head, dear sister. Cling to Jesus. Seek Him. Follow Him. Press in hard. He will free you. And you really will be free.
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” ~ John 8:34-36
Love these joggers, I guess I never realized they could be in a heavier material . I always thought they were made of sweat material ( like sweat pant material. Those are nice and you can wear a belt!
Love The Blessed for My Day!
Blessings,
It is like looking in a mirror when I see yourfadhions. I am 62 , size 8, 135 lbs, 5.4, and my taste is similar to yours.
I recently saw some olive green pants with zippers at the Gap. I wondered I was too old to wear them, but now I will buy them. You have great taste in clothes!
Thank you for giving the voice to us ….modern mature women
Such a nice outfit! You look awesome 😊love the boots. I wore them in the 80s, seeing you in them makes me feel I can do it again 👍🏼
First of all … I bought the BOOTS! They are fabulous. I love the support they give my ankle (I’m 59) without digging in. Now I’ll buy the pants! Thank you so much for modeling these. I also did not know I could wear that look, and I love the color. Thank you KAY!
Yay!! 🙌🏻 I do hope you continue to enjoy the boots. 🥰
Great outfit Kay! I can attest to the quality and comfort of Wit & Wisdom jeans and pants. That is one of my go-to brands. And yes, I will be using your link to make my selection. It dawned on me last night that Thanksgiving is 3 weeks away. Great BFMD!
Yes, I always think of you when I get a pair of Wit & Wisdom pants or jeans. Hahaha! I think, “Ginger will like these!” No joke. 😊
I bought a pair of these boots in brown last year after you featured them and I love them! So this year I bought a new style from Thursday boots…the knockout chelsea boot in black. I got them yesterday and I love them too 🙂 In my opinion, they sell great quality boots at a good price. Now, I’m going to check out those joggers!
I am so glad to hear that! I totally agree, but I always fear I may be a little out of touch until I start getting feedback on the things I’ve recommended. Thanks so much for letting me know. 😊
Kay, you have great taste! I guess that’s why you are such a successful blogger/influencer! I always read your mini devotion. You are great at that too! Such a helpful, heartfelt reminder the God had freed me from some bondage and He is still at work and still able and willing to free me from any remaining strongholds. Thank you!
Yes and amen! Thanks so much for sharing Debbie. ❤️
Hello Kay, I absolutely love this Casual Thanksgiving Day outfit. This outfit is right in my comfort zone. These joggers have a great balance of ruggedness and classic style. The cuffs are the neatest detail. I could not find any burgundy jeans this fall, only dressy ponte pants in this luscious color. I ordered these joggers (through your link), right away. That is a first for me from Nordstrom, and my first pair of joggers. Thank you Kay for creating this outfit. I will enjoy wearing it all fall and winter long. I look forward to seeing more of the Casual Thanksgiving Outfit series. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!
Wonderful. Thanks so much for shopping my links. You won’t be disappointed with Nordstrom. Their shipping is fast too. And they make returns so easy. But of course we hope you don’t have to do that!😉
Hi Kay,
Thank you for another great post!
Speaking of low contrast, what would you pair with a leopard print top for a jacket? Hope this link works, otherwise it’s the Vince Camuto leopard print top.
Thank you so much.
Hi Beth. I actually have that same blouse in the sleeveless version and styled it here. http://206.189.207.166/wear-now-later-leopard-print-blouse/ but really this leopard print can be treated as a neutral and worn with most anything. And because it includes both whites and blacks you’ll still have low contrast with absolutely anything. I’ve paired mine with a white linen blazer, a black blazer and my denim jacket. It is SO versatile.
Hi Kay,
I am so glad that you have the same print! Thank you for linking to ways you have styled it and for the suggestions too. I am so grateful for you!
God bless you,
Beth
You’re quite welcome. 😊
Cute outfit I ordered the pants in Mr. Mushroom. Kay do you have other suggestions for shoes. I think fashion sneakers would be cute…would you wear them with another type of flat? Thanks for all you do!
You can wear them with sneakers, booties and lace up boots for sure. For other options I’d just play around with them some. Take photos and determine what you like. You’ll know it when you see it! 😊
