Hi everyone! I’m home from the pastors and wives retreat that James and I attended last week in Texas. It was a free retreat sponsored by Double Honor Ministries, and it was such a blessing to us. We are so grateful. If you’d like to know more about Double Honor and the retreats they provide for pastors and their spouses free of charge, be sure to check them out. Maybe you’d like to recommend your pastor and spouse for a retreat. Or maybe you are that couple! Meanwhile, here on Dressed for My Day, I’m sharing a simple shorts outfit that’s perfect for any summer day. In fact, I wore a variation of this outfit on our retreat last week.
This is a simple shorts duo you might catch me in most any day during the summer. I like these 7″ button-hem shorts because they are a length that is flattering for most body types (more on that later this week, gals!). Also, they fit fairly close to the leg all the way through the leg opening, which creates a more slimming appearance overall. But they’re not binding or tight. They’re made of a soft stretch cotton twill, so they have a semi-dressy look, but are still comfy and casual.
These comfortable shorts come in several trendy colors as well as a dark black and a true white. I would love to have them in white. Right now they are marked down and they have a full spectrum of sizes available in most colors.
This square-neck tank has just enough embroidered detailing to make it interesting and feminine without being fussy. It comes in a rainbow of colors. One of my favorites is the bleached coral. I love having solid tanks and tees like this on hand to wear with shorts in multiple shades. I find it best to keep the trendier colors below the waist and stick with shades that specifically work well with my coloring up top.
I kept my jewelry classic and simple, as I do most every day, but you could add a splash of coordinating color with your earrings or necklace, too. My earrings are from Brighton and my necklace is this James Avery French heart pendant.
When I wear two solids in my pants and top like I’ve done here, I like to balance the look with a third color. That’s why I think this red crossbody bag from Fossil works so well here. My bag is several years old, but here’s another great Fossil crossbody and here’s a more economical Fossil. My bracelet is a James Avery cuff that they no longer carry, but here is a similar one that I love and another I like equally well. These are classic jewelry pieces you’d never stop wearing. My watch is by Fossil and my sunglasses are from Loft and are similar to these.
My shoes are these double strap sandals. They only have one size – a 5 – in this brown “luggage” shade, but they have a full spectrum of sizes in several of the other shades, including navy, white, black and bright pink. They’re marked down considerably right now, too.
If you’re looking for some basic but pretty shorts, tops or sandals to fill some holes in your summer wardrobe, these are some you might want to consider. Classic, comfortable and flattering.

Blessed for My Day
Today may the Lord bless you with adequate energy for all you must do. May you feel His pleasure as you do the things for which you were created, and may you feel His strength as you obey Him by doing the things that are difficult but necessary. If you must forgive, may you draw upon the grace He has shown you. If you must confront, may you do so with the same gentleness He has demonstrated toward you. And if you must try something new, something hard, something beyond your current abilities, may you sense His presence as He walks through each moment with you. May you find that, indeed, your God supplies your every need through Christ Jesus.
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:19

Hi Sheila,
I’ve emailed you. Let me know if you get this resolved. I’m so sorry about the frustration. ?
I was so excited to see your post today because it reminded me that, somewhere in my jewelry collection, I have the same James Avery heart pendant, in gold. When my mother passed away 5 years ago after her battle with pancreatic cancer, I inherited most of her jewelry, and this pendant was one of those pieces (she loved James Avery!). I just checked my jewelry drawer and found it in one of the orange JA boxes I hadn’t peeked in recently. Now I’ll have to look for just the right outfit to wear it with this week – thanks for the inspiration!
Oh my! Yes, you must bring it out and wear it. What a treasure! I’m so glad you remembered you had it and found it. 🙂
Love the ‘Blessed for my Day’ today!
Very nicely done, Kay, as usual! Certainly enjoy your style & suggestions!
