Well this week has not gone according to plans at all. But I’ve learned a few things as a result, namely to have a back-up plan. Ha! Normally I post these daily outfits on Friday. (I say normally. I’ve just been doing them on a weekly basis for a few weeks now. Hehehe!) But when my content calendar took a nosedive earlier this week, I decided I’d post my real life outfits today so that I can hopefully get back on track Monday.
That’s probably more than you needed to know or cared to hear, and I absolutely don’t mean to whine. I’m very grateful to have other bloggers/YouTubers to work with as well as sponsors for some of my posts. But I am learning the hard way that when you work with others, plans can go awry and it’s best to have a back-up post. Hey, let’s get on to how I really dressed for my day lately.
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
Saturday to Run Errands
I don’t have many outfits to share this week because a couple of days I ended up just wearing my workout clothes all day. But Saturday before we began shooting videos, I wore my black racer stripe joggers and this fun LOVE sweatshirt to run a few errands. My joggers are from last year, but I’ll link something similar.
Uh oh! It looks like I may need to clean my mirror, too. Sorry about that!
This J.Crew sweatshirt is very comfortable and runs true to size. It’s just the slightest bit cropped but I didn’t wear the layering tee for that reason. I was just cold! I’m loving my black and white layering tees, and I think I may order the grey one so I’ll have one more to add to the rotation. I wear one almost daily. They’re pretty thin and fit close to the body. But they keep me warmer without any binding or squeezing.
I think the white racer stripes on my joggers along with the white tee peeking through and the lettering on my sweatshirt make this look work. And I was literally just running errands anyhow. But I kinda like this look. I finished it off with my black wedge sneakers. They’re still 41% off.

Sunday Church & Errands
I didn’t intend to be out all afternoon running errands on Sunday, but that’s the way it worked out. Yeah, now that I think about it, that was just the first indication that this week would not go as planned. I drove about ten miles from our church to a Talbots that was holding a jacket for me, but when I got there they were closed for the day. Unfortunately, I think it was Covid related. So that was quite sobering. Anyhow I ended up driving about 80 miles round trip that day to get the jacket I needed for yesterday’s post.
Fortunately I felt quite comfortable in my black Everlane jeans and grey snowflake sweater. I’m wearing a size 30 in the jeans, by the way. But the blue version didn’t fit me in this size.
I’m loving these black Blondo waterproof booties. They run true to size and feel great right out of the box. They’re currently 23% off.
The Daphne coat above is the one I’m sharing in Sunday’s video (if things go as planned…ha!). It was sold out just the other day, but is restocked in limited sizes as I type this post. But it’s also available in several other great colors. I love the light weight of this coat. Is substantial enough to wear as a coat, but feels more like a jacket. So it works as a completer piece, too. I’ll be styling it 6 ways in Sunday’s video.
Monday I dressed in one of the outfits I was shooting for yesterday’s post. And Tuesday I didn’t really get dressed. So the next outfit I have for you is Wednesday’s.
Shopping for Christmas Presents
With the kind of week I was having I decided to get out and enjoy some Christmas activities Wednesday. I returned a few things at the mall, picked up a salad from Chic fil A and then I went shopping for Christmas presents. I decided to dress up a little for my festive day.
My red wool skirt is from Talbots about five or six years ago. I sure wish they had some like this right now. I can’t find any solid wool or wool blend knee length skirts out there. Ugh. But I do like this red, black and ivory check wool skirt. And you could create a similar look with a solid sweater. I’m sharing a few other options in the shopping widget, too.
The sun was out and I knew I’d be in and out of stores a lot, so I wore my black puffer vest (similar puffer vest) instead of a full coat. It worked perfectly. And I think my Blondo waterproof booties kept my rather traditional look a little more modern.
Thursday to Lunch with Friends
When I realized that Thursday’s post just wasn’t going to materialize I decided I had two options. I could frantically grind out another post from scratch…or I could go to lunch as scheduled with my friends. Yep. I chose to let it go! And I’m so glad I did.
I topped my Talbots denim jeggings with a trustworthy green cashmere turtleneck. Jeans and a cashmere turtleneck are definitely my faithful go-to on days when I want to look pulled together but I don’t have it in me to put forth extra effort. Honestly, I probably should default to this look more often. This combo never fails.
I just added my navy diamond quilted vest and wore my Frye boots (mine are wide calf but they come in regular shafts, too). These boots are a fraction of the price, but very similar. I’m loving this Kendra Scott Love Knot Y necklace that I picked up in their recent sale. I’d used my red crossbody bag the day before and didn’t feel like changing, so I grabbed it and scooted out the door!
Friday James and I did a little exploring, but we also shot photos of my outfit. So I’m going to hold that outfit back and share it with you next week.
Well that’s a wrap! Thanks so much for stopping in for a little style inspiration. Yeah, it was one of those weeks. And a couple of days I didn’t even manage to get dressed for my day. But in the end grace abounds. And I’m so grateful. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Let me know if you have questions about anything I’ve shared today.
Blessed for My Day
Mary was such a young woman when she gave birth to the Savior. I recently bought my daughter a candle from Nordstrom called “Adulting.” The candle purportedly smells like “early nights and steady paychecks.” I sent it as a little gift to Abigail because I feel like she has done an amazing job “adulting” through this strange year of 2020. Obviously the gift was a little tongue in cheek, but truly my daughter is an extremely responsible and well adjusted young woman. I’m very proud of her.
The truth is, being an adult is hard sometimes. I still have days when I’d like to just run home to my parents. You, too? I think a candle called “Adulting” should have the fragrance of “feeling overwhelmed and out of your league.” Ha! I can only imagine what Mary and Joseph must have felt as they wrapped their new baby – the Lamb of God – in swaddling cloths and laid him in a feeding trough. Talk about feeling like you’re already behind before you even had a chance to get started! And yet we know that God was with them. He would later send shepherds to stand in awe before them and then wise men to bow before them. Anna and Simeon would meet them in the temple and affirm them, too. God was with them as they did the best they could…adulting.
I think I’d like to land here: Let’s be those women who affirm and encourage the young people in our lives who are still getting the “adulting” feet under them. Let’ give a little grace, a few kind words, an encouraging smile, a blessing. Adulting is hard, but we can help make it a little easier for someone today.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. ~ Luke 2:7
Your BFMD pulled at my heart strings in this moment. Thank you. Your “How I really dressed” posts are a favorite of mine. Obviously, you practice what you preach. It’s always an interesting and exciting treat to see how you mix up the workhorses of your curated wardrobe. Layered and vested outfits are a favorite choice of mine this time of year as well. So, it was a blessing to see how you styled them for your day. Enjoy your weekend to rejuvenate.
Kay, as always, you continue to inspire and encourage us all to be and look our best! I admire you in many ways, but especially for the way you always share an inspiring (BFMD) message at the end of your post! You shine in all you do! Your Wednesday outfit reminds me of something I would wear before the Pandemic hit. Now, I find myself seldom wearing a skirt/tights or dress. You’ve inspired me to start dressing up a bit and feeling better about myself! Bless you, sweet Kay!
BFMD hit home for me today , Thank You , I enjoy your posts , we are the same height and I have trouble with jean lengths , are you going for jeans to hit your ankle bone , and maybe that’s why I don’t feel Talbots are long enough
Enjoyed your post! Loved your ending message. Have a blessed day! Love your encouragement to all of us “adulting” women! <3
Hi Kay, I have the J.Crew sweatshirt in the green that says JOY. Wore it all day yesterday on an exploring trip to the Lancaster County, PA, countryside! Sometimes we just need a little road trip to clear our minds and hearts! Glad you and James plan on that on a regular basis. I also love your Talbot reviews, they hit it out of the ballpark this Christmas season!! Love their tartan plaids. I need to find that “adulting” candle for my daughter as well! HA!!!
Have a great weekend.
Great outfits. I like your selections. Do you go to in person church?
Hi Rory. Yes, I go in person. We’re very distanced inside and all wear masks. It feels safe. But I sure do long for the days when we can hug and shake hands again.
Kay, this is a fabulous post and thank you for sharing! You look great in all your outfits! You are such an inspiration and encouraging. I love your BFMD message! Also, your new hairdo is adorable! Blessings to you!
Sometimes it’s hard to adult up. When a loved one is in hospital at Christmas, it is especially hard. Prayers for all of you who do.🙏🏻
I love these outfits but I’d change out the skirt for pants. It definitely loses its edge when you do that but I’ve noticed lately that one of my knees may be bigger than the other. I mean. Really! The aging body does give us surprises.
