Happy Monday! I guess today is our first Monday of the new year, so let’s make it a good one and get dressed for our day. I’m hunkering down big time today on my goals for the year. Predominantly I’ve re-enlisted in the FASTer Way to Fat Loss for a VIP 6-week challenge and I’m using my new Fitbit to stay motivated and moving. I’m sharing what I wore recently for a day in the snow. I’m calling it adult women’s fashion for a snow day.
James took these photos last Sunday when we were on our little trip to Port Clinton, Ohio, on Lake Erie. There was a fresh blanket of snow on the ground when we drove out to the Marblehead Lighthouse. It was a beautiful morning. Freezing cold! But beautiful.
I’m pretty sure it was in the mid 20s that day, but honestly, I felt fairly comfortable the way I dressed. We spent almost two hours taking photos and exploring the The Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, and I really felt great in my layers.
Of course, I’m wearing my fleece-lined pants from Talbots. They are so warm, but also look classy and grown-up. That’s why these are the base for my adult women’s fashion for a snow day.
These fleece-lined pants run true to size with a roomy fit in the misses sizes. But I’ve had a couple of women, including my mom, tell me that the petite sizes run a little large. You can absolutely wash them in cold water in your washing machine, but I hang mine on a drying rack to dry.
Of course you can’t see them, but I’m wearing my L.L.Bean Katahdin hiking socks under my pants and boots. They kept my feet warm, along with my waterproof boots from Blondo.
My waterproof boots run true to size and feature an inside zipper for easy on and off. They kept my feet completely dry while walking through thick snow for two hours. Later on our trip, I walked in them through soggy marshes, on icy sidewalks and through deep puddles…and they continued to keep my feet dry, all the while looking just like they do in the photo. I’m in love with these waterproof boots.
I slipped my coat off just long enough for James to get a quick photo of my sweater. My cable-knit sweater is available in two other great colors and is marked down considerably. It has fast become one of my favorites. You can also see how I styled it here.
Underneath my ivory cable-knit sweater, I’m wearing this camisole and my white layering tee. Both are thin and fit close to my body, providing lots of extra warmth you can’t even see.
I purchased my Bernardo packable EcoPlume coat in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it’s fully stocked again in the black and marked down 40%. If you’re looking for a comfortable (silky soft and lightweight feeling!), packable coat, I highly recommend this Bernardo hooded coat. I did size up to a large to ensure plenty of room for layering. I’m linking to a few other nice Bernardo coats that are on sale in the shopping widget. But I love the length and weight of this one. I love putting it on.
James got us both Fitbits for Christmas. So we were wearing our fitness and activity trackers that day of course. Already our Fitbits are motivating us to get in more steps each day. They even have a feature that reminds you to get in at least 250 steps each hour of the day that you want to be active. This feature is already helping me to get up and move more during my work day.
He bought us this yours and mine bundle of one black and one rosewood tracker. I love that we’re doing this together. But you can also find the same Fitbit Charge 4 for one here. We’ve also purchased these interchangeable stainless steel bands for me. I’m enjoying wearing the black one most often.
Of course I’m wearing the accessories needed to keep warm, too. My gloves are basic, inexpensive gloves from Target. I purchased my hat at Talbots last year, so it’s no longer available. But you’ll find their beautiful options for this year here, and they’re discounted 50% today. My scarf is also old, but I’ve linked to some pretty ones below. I especially love this similar buffalo plaid cashmere scarf that’s 50% off.
Finally, I kept my jewelry simple and close to the body, since I knew we would be in and out of the car, taking coats and accessories off and on all day. I’m really enjoying my Kendra Scott Tima oversized studs for high impact without all the weight of large earrings. They’re very lightweight. I purchased my sunglasses on deep sale about a year ago, but these are comparable.
This cold weather newbie is learning that layering and water resistant clothing are the keys to staying warm in the cold. I love the way this outfit came together so effortlessly and how it kept me toasty warm and dry for our fun snow day.
Trip Details
If you’re interested, here are the places we ate, stayed and visited while in Port Clinton, Ohio.
- Lodging – Island House Hotel – Very clean and accommodating. We were the only ones there two nights! I think they’re closing for February. But it’s a lovely, historic inn and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Corner Suite.
- Dinner – We ate dinner the first night at Rosie’s Bar & Grille. I had a yummy salad and James enjoyed his fish.
- Coffee & Breakfast – We intended to just have coffee at Coffee Express, but the muffins, quiche and pastries were too tempting and satisfying. Delicious! Both the coffee and the food. The hospitality was stellar, too. We went there all three mornings.
- Dinner – The second night we enjoyed Italian food at Ciao Bella. I enjoyed the mushroom ravioli.
- Besides visiting the The Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, we also spent a lot of time just driving around and looking, walking the city of Port Clinton and walking along the waterfront. We also took nature walks at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.
Thanks for stopping in today. I hope you enjoyed my snow day post. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day
You might would expect that we should have to defend our Lord. Considering the price God paid to restore our relationship with Him, it only seems right that we would be expected to defend Him. Instead, He is a shield for us, protecting us from the pains we endure in this broken world. He defends our reputation, protects our hearts and lifts our heads.
If you are feeling the toll of the battle today, dear one, cry out to the Lord. Whether it’s the words of others, the burden you’re carrying or just the bumps and bruises of living in a rough world that is weighing on you, you have a Defender. Call upon Him and He will answer. He is a good and mighty and strong God. And He is for you.
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill.
Enjoyed all the warm and cozy layers you wore. I like the total put together look you present, which is outstanding on you. Very festive and Hallmark movie worthy!
I’m also interested in where you stayed, ate, and all the places you visited in Port Clinton. I’ve only been there in the summer, so I’d like to know what all you can do in winter.
Hi Doreen, I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote the post, so I didn’t think about adding itinerary. Duh. Hahaha! So I’ve gone back and added links to where we ate, stayed and visited at the bottom of the post. It was a lovely visit. Very calming and relaxing. Obviously there are a lot of things closed, but we enjoyed the peace and quite and slow pace.
You look so pretty Kay and natural in these photos…..the snow is a beautiful backdrop.
Love your hat and scarf (you look cute in a hat)!
I’ve been away from the cold for a long time now, not sure if I could handle it, hang in there😉
Blessings,
Hahaha! Yes, it is taking some getting used to for me. I freeze a lot, honestly. But I’m finding that layers really make a significant difference. So I wear multiple shirts almost every single day. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. Have a lovely day.
Very cute stay warm outfit. I too would like to know where you stayed? Would like to go there this Spring.
I love lighthouses and have been to Split Rock Lighthouse in Silver Bay, Minnesota outside of Duluth, Minnesota
that I enjoy visiting. Wonderful town to visit and the scenery is breathtaking if you ever get to the North shore of
Minnesota.
Hi Sherry, I’ve updated the post with links to the places we stayed, ate and visited. I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote the post, so I forgot to do that. I’m glad you gals asked. It was a lovely place to visit. I’m sure it’s beautiful in the summer and we’ll probably try to go back, maybe in the fall. But we loved that there weren’t many people there and the pace was slow. I love lighthouses, too. Thanks so much for sharing.
I bought the retinol cream you wrote about in one of your recent posts. I hope it works as well for me as it does you. I have one for the main bath and one for the powder room. Thank you for the tip.
Great. I hope you like it. It really did make a significant difference for me. I’m planning on talking with my dermatologist when I go about all the products I’ve been using and get her take on it all. I’ll update you when I do. Thanks for sharing.
What beautiful pictures! I really like you cold weather outfit and the scenery is breathtaking! These pictures confirm that y’all had a great get away. Enjoy your final day with Abigail and praying she has a safe drive back to the ATL. Wonderful BFMD!
Thank you so much Ginger. We hate to see her go, but of course that’s good. We’re all glad this visit was a little different from her 7-week visit at the beginning of the pandemic. At least she’s going home to a job! Thanks for your warm wishes.
Beautiful outfit and I just love all of the beautiful pictures!! So fun for this Texas girl to see the beauty of the snow and I love lighthouses, so that’s an extra bonus for me!!! Have a great week!
Thanks so much for reading, Danelle. It was lovely seeing the lighthouse with all the snow. The next day it was gone, so we’re were thankful for our timing. Blessings!
The lighthouse was decorated for Christmas too! Your pretty snow pictures makes me think of our trip to Yellowstone when we hiked in the snow on some trails. The day started at 2 degrees. Wowzies that was cold. I had thermals on under my pants. Two layers of socks and to keep the snow from going in my boots we all wore gators which also kept me warmer. My fam had a good trip, the hike was enjoyable I was hoping for that in spite of the weather. When you plan a trip you don’t always get the temperature you want! You sure made your trip look beautiful! Thanks for sharing all your layers.
That’s for sure! You can plan ahead, but you never know what the weather is going to do. Your trip to Yellowstone sounds wonderful. Cold, but wonderful! I hope to go back there someday. I went when I was a kid. Have a great day!
Thank you for your Blessing post today. The Lord knows when we need encouragement. You are a blessing! Enjoy the snow! In Tucson this year we have had only a few sweater day’s this year.
Hmm, yes Tucson can be quite warm all winter. Sometimes I miss it for sure. But I’m definitely enjoying the four seasons. I’m glad you enjoyed the blessing. 🥰
Just discovered you on YouTube and have watched quite a few of your videos. Very inspiring! Have you done videos on your hair and makeup?
Hi Christine. No, but those are on the list for the future. It will probably be after we move into a new home though…hopefully this spring. 😉
I enjoyed this post so much. I’ve lived in Arizona for the past 15 years, but we used to live in Utah and New York. Sometimes I really miss cold snowy days. If it weren’t 70 degrees here, I’d order this outfit in a flash. It’s so cute.
Also, thank you for sharing your thoughts of faith with us. It’s very uplifting, and nice to know there’s lots of people with faith around.
Ahh, I miss Arizona sometimes. But we’re definitely enjoying the four seasons. Thanks for sharing, Lisa. Enjoy those warm days!
I would love being in snow like you ! Enjoy!
I lived in Ohio for 59 years and never went there. You’ve been more places than I ever went. In the winter people in Ohio just stay home and wait for better weather. My husband used to go fishing in Lake Erie. But I stayed home with the kids. I’m not much of a water person. Unless it’s a clean chlorinated swimming pool. I did used to camp and swim in Cowan Lake. It’s just south of Wilmington Ohio. It’s a nice park. And we would stop and get ice cream in town. I don’t think it’s the same place. But the last time we were in the area we stopped, and the ice cream was still good. You should plan a trip there. It’s way closer than Lake Erie.
Thanks for sharing, Pam. I’ll add it to our list. 🥰
Love the look. I kept going back and forth on the pants. They are a little roomy but going down a size they are tight in the leg. Best to be room for walking.
So shifting gears, I would love some advice on purging your closet. I like Marie Kondo idea, however, I have lived long enough to see things come back in style. It is hard to get rid of some things. I am thinking that keeping my wardrobe classic, I might not need to purge all the time.
Also, where do you think that scarfs are going? Still in for spring, summer.
Love your videos and reading your blog. I also thought your daughters take on what you do so very sweet and funny,
Blessings,
Cyndi
Hahaha! I’m glad you enjoyed Abby’s Instagram story. She’s a lot of fun. Yeah, I think if you have mostly classic clothing that is well made you shouldn’t have to get rid of things too often. I just let the hangers in my closet do the work for me. I have a set number of hangers in my closet and don’t buy more. So when I do buy something new, I look for something to cull from my closet. This generally works for me.
Great outfit for a day in the snow! So well put together. Next time you are in NE Ohio consider a visit to The Cleveland Museum of Art. I think you’d enjoy it and it’s ranked as the 3rd best in the United States. There is no admission fee for the permanent collection; however, there are fees for traveling exhibits.
Wonderful to know. We thought about driving over to Cleveland but decided to leave it to its own trip. We’ll be sure to include the art museum then. Thanks for the tip!
I enjoyed the pictures of Marblehead. I live in NE Ohio and have been there quite a few times. This brought back memories and reminded me that I need to get up there in the winter. I’m glad you included information on the hotel and dining. Very helpful!
Great! We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of winter there. Thanks for reading, Karen.
What gorgeous pictures Kay! You look wonderful in that outfit and it sure does seem like a beautiful spot to visit. I layer every day in the winter since I live in New York and we definitely get our share of cold days. Fleece lined pants are great for outdoor hikes. I’ve only visited Ohio once, we were in Cleveland. That’s a great city, so much to do and very walkable. The highlight for us was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thanks Deb. Yes, we are looking forward to exploring Cleveland, too. 😊
I just love the lighthouse with the little Christmas touches. Such a beautiful backdrop for your outfit, Kay.
Thanks, Alison. It was just lovely.
Hello Kay,
I recently discovered your site surfing on youtube and searching for ideas to wear after 60. I love your site and your looks but I am from Belgium and I am a bit confused with the size I have to choose. Could you help me ?
I like your feece lined pants but it seems they are out of stock ! could you recommend us another similar product ?
Thanks a lot for your help and for this wonderful discover I made thanks to you
Marie-Françoise
Hello Marie-Francoise. I’m so glad you found my blog. Yes, I love my fleece lined pants from Talbots and they’ve had some for the past several years, so watch for them again next fall. Meanwhile, I also wear and love these from Athleta. https://shopstyle.it/l/bqJHl They fit true to size and you’ll probably just need to check their size chart to convert to European sizing. Thanks for introducing yourself. I hope you’ll continue to visit my blog. You can subscribe and receive a daily or weekly email with links to my newest post. 🥰
I was looking at todays (12/7/21) post and linked back to the black pants from last January. What a surprise to be sitting in my living room in Port Clinton and reading your post about our town! We have boated out of this area for almost 30 years and decided to move here full time about 4 years ago. We love all the seasons here and enjoy the way the small town morphs through out the year. From “birding” in the spring, high tourist traffic in the summer, fishing in the fall and a quiet, quaint winter, PC has it all! It’s a true blessing to be able to look out my front window at the Port Clinton lighthouse (not nearly as big as the Marblehead one) and see Lake Erie everyday.
Thank you for all of your posts, I have been trying to up my fashion game and enjoy what you show us everyday as well as your inspiration!
Mary
Hi Mary, Thanks so much for sharing. We’re actually heading back to Port Clinton this year right after Christmas. We just loved our visit there last year. So maybe you could see about getting us another blanket of snow. It was beautiful last year! But of course we know that may or may not happen this year. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog.
