Happy Friday! I cannot tell you how glad I am to be reaching the end of this week. It’s been a bear! I barely sat down in our living room all week. Instead, I was either in my office working or cramming in a workout or in my office working. Ha! So I do have a day or two where I only wore workout clothes – not because I was lazy, but because I needed to be dressed to run out the door to grab a quick walk here and there. But let’s see how I got dressed for my day.
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
How This Works
I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.
I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. I’ll be building shopping “looks” for each outfit, too. That way you can easily return to them through the link in the top menu of this website if you ever want to buy something that I’ve shown you. Just click on the SHOP link and then on the Shop My Looks link.
Let’s get started!
Sunday to Church and a Little Store Hopping
I must not have gotten “dressed” Friday, and Saturday I was in and out of outfits all day as we taped videos. So the first outfit I have to share is what I wore to church on Sunday. I attended our more casual service and then I took some returns to Talbots and picked up a few things at Target.
I had noticed retailers showing their mockneck sweaters with a collard shirt under them, so I thought I’d give it a try. So I’m wearing my chambray shirt under this cream cable knit sweater. You can barely see it in the photo, but I feel like it was a bit more noticeable in real life. I do think this styling is a little fashion forward and adds some interest to the outfit.
I’m wearing my relaxed fit jeans from L.L. Bean. I love the way these jeans fit and feel. And notice I wore my dark brown boots under them to create that long leg. I also added the leopard print handbag strap that I shared in Wednesday’s video. It is still available, by the way. I think little details like the turned up chambray shirt collar and the leopard print strap help complete this otherwise basic look.
Sunday Afternoon at Home
If you’ve been around here long you know that I like to put on soft, pretty loungewear on Sunday afternoons. This isn’t the most attractive picture, but it’s real life!
At least the colors go together. Ha! But seriously, these are all such comfy pieces. I especially enjoy wearing this J.Jill Pure Jill hooded sweater. Obviously it looks more pulled together with jeans. But it is oh so soft. I have on a layering tee underneath. I’m wearing my Soma Sunday pants and my Acorn slippers.
Monday Working from Home and Errands
Monday I did manage to get dressed for my day. Yeah, I started off the week pretty well, but later… Well, you’ll see. On this day I created a look pretty similar to Sunday’s. I tend to get in patterns like that. Do you?
You may recognize these jeans from yesterday’s popular post, How to Wear Straight Leg Ankle Jeans in the Winter. This is the outfit that prompted me to write the post. I’d pulled these jeans out to wear because I do love the dark wash on them and the slim fit. But I had to play around with them a bit before I hit the sweet spot. For more details on how I pulled this look together, you really could just read yesterday’s post. But the bottom line is that these dark brown boots are key. They fit nicely under the straight ankle hem and the dark color elongates the leg.
Also, however, notice that I did tuck my sweater (I think it’s just tucked in the front) and added a leopard print belt for interest. I really love this look with and without the coat.
Teaching Bible Study on Zoom and Working
Tuesday I must not have put anything on other than workout clothes. Wednesday I began teaching my Joseph Bible study on Zoom Video Conferences in the morning and in the evening. So I needed to look bright and pretty on camera, but I wanted to be comfortable for a hard day in the office. Plus I needed to be able to step out the door throughout the day for power walks.
So I opted for my Zella Live In Pocket joggers and this pretty electric pink mock neck sweater. These joggers have a slimmer fit than others I own, but I wasn’t going anywhere. I really just needed to look nice from the waist up. And the Zella joggers are the softest I own. I chose this particular pink sweater because it has a slim fit up top, not blousy and overwhelming. And I also like wearing a solid when I’m teaching on Zoom.
To An Appointment, Lunch and Home
Thursday I had to have a little medical test run. Don’t worry about it. The test was unpleasant and no fun, but my doctor is not concerned and I’m not anxious either. It’s just a matter of checking all the boxes right now. I can’t really go into it here obviously, but it’s just one of those lady things we sometimes deal with.
Anyhow I decided to wear this pretty little tee that I’d recently purchased from Chico’s because this little lady made me happy. I think she would make a great top to wear on Valentine’s Day, too. But the shirt isn’t really a Valentine’s Day top, so you can wear it whenever.
I chose to wear the grey graphic tee with medium wash straight leg jeans. You could certainly wear it with black jeans, but I thought the blue denim lightened the look a bit. Originally I considered wearing my black blazer with the zip in grey hoodie. But then I saw this red cardigan hanging in my closet and decided I needed a pop of color. And the cardigan fit nicely under my puffer coat. The coat even covered it completely.
I finished the look off with my black all weather booties. I think they keep the look a little edgy. But I also envision wearing this tee with skinny jeans and my black loafers.
I also wore the above outfit out to lunch with my friends. But when I got home I needed to relax a little after a stressful morning. So I changed into my Talbots joggers and slippers.
Of course, my slippers are nothing to look at, although they’re really comfortable. But I think this tee would look darling with joggers and sneakers. And I plan to wear it that way some, too. By the way, I’m wearing a size 1 (8-10) and it’s a little roomy, but not so much that I wanted to return it.
This week’s How I Really Dressed for My Day post does seem short compared to last week’s long one. But I’m glad I was able to keep it brief after yesterday’s mega post. Ha! I hope you enjoyed your time here and gained a little style inspiration. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day
When we are weary beyond exhaustion, we don’t always make the best decisions. We’re more prone to grab for unhealthy snacks rather than wholesome meals. We might gulp down a soda rather than consciously choosing water. And we may be more likely to say things that we later regret.
When I start making faulty decisions I soon realize that I need to HALT. I need to ask myself if I’m hungry, angry, lonely or tired. Any of those situations can make me more prone to hasty and poor behavior. And if I take care of the basic need I have by eating a healthy snack, resolving my anger, seeking out a little companionship or getting a power nap, I regain my ability to think more clearly and make wise decisions.
Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom. Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. ~ Genesis 25:29-34
Good morning Kay! I’m so happy that your doctor was not concerned after the test, allowing you to relax and let it go. I totally get that some jeans are comfy enough to lounge in and wear all day, then there are those jeans that you enjoy wearing, but also enjoy hanging them back in your closet. I really like the tee from Chico’s! That would be a great tee to have in a short sleeve version. I know that y’all are looking forward to your day of exploration! And I’m looking forward to seeing some of the pictures from the outing. God bless!
Just snagged those Talbots ankle boots in black for $68. 50% + 20% off. My kind of deal. Was needing some to wear under my jeans. Thanks, Kay for the heads up.
🙌🏻 woohoo!!!
Love the graphic tee! I forget to look out for these. I loved the blue one you wore a while back too. Glad the tests are over. I hate any type of test. Especially those that have me in a horizontal position.😬 Have a great week end!
You are so right about our saying things we regret when we’re tired or haungry, I’ve been on dialysis for over 24 years so I’m frequently exhausted so I must be careful. I look good people are always saying. This is what makes people not understand how truly bad I feel!
Kay
This has nothing to do with your outfits which I absolutely love but how you get paid. So if I were to go to Chico’s through your link would you get a percentage of my whole purchase or just the item you recommend. Also, can I use your link and Rakutan at the same time. Thank you
Hi Tammy. I get a commission on your total purchase. And I’m not sure about when you use Rakuten. But you do what’s best for you there. I appreciate you shopping my links and thanks for asking. 🥰
I so appreciate the time and effort you put into your posts! I am not on FACEBOOK (a depression trigger for me) so I don’t see what you do there but if it is like what you do here, you are amazing! You fashion sense is so intuitive. I enjoy all the posts and look forward to learning from you every day. Thank you.
Hi Betsy. Thanks so much for your kind words. I don’t provide any additional content on FB really. So you’re getting all I’ve got! Here and on YouTube. 🥰
Hi Kay, I love my Talbots fleece lined pants. They fit me perfectly. Thank you 🤓
Wonderful to hear. 🙌🏻
Great post, Kay! So glad your test is over and no worries. (I have been praying as I’m sure others have been also.) It is so hard to say which is my favorite outfit because I like all of them. 😁 I really like the tee from Chico’s, and the red sweater looks perfect with it. I am a blue jean lady from way back.
Thanks for BFMD. I completed your Joseph Bible study a few months ago and I have to tell you that I learned SO much about Joseph and about how to approach studying the Bible. I was able to confront and to let go of some things that were holding me back. Thank you for this dear Kay!
Have a wonderful and a much deserved day trip with James,
Suzanne
Oh that’s so very good to hear. Does my heart good. Thanks so much for letting me know. 💕
I watched your video yesterday and was so impressed with all the information. Normally, I just dress and re-dress until I feel it is right! I am your height but weigh 20 pounds more, so I was reluctant to try some of your examples. I did tuck in a black sweater, put on a belt, wore black jeans and boots with my plaid blazer. My daughters both complemented me on how great I looked and they are the hardest critics. Today, I wore brown boots with ankle slacks and bookended it with a brown suede moto jacket that I had never worn because I thought it too short…you showed me otherwise! Thanks for expanding my wardrobe and showing me how to “boot” my ankle slacks and jeans.
Connie
🙌🏻 woohoo! I know how daughters can be! 😉 That’s great. It really is largely about trying new things and letting our eyes and feelings about it adjust. Thanks so much for sharing. I think your comment is inspiring. 😊
Today I ordered a belt! I have not worn a belt since I was in high school (I an 68 and I carry my weight in my lower abdomen). Thanks for tips on how to wear tops tucked in without drawing attention to my trouble spot!
We’ll be patient with the process. It takes your eyes a while to adjust. But here’s to trying new things! 🥰
Kay, I love all the outfits and especially love your new hairstyle! It’s fabulous! You look tremendous! I’m so glad you’re test went ok and it’s nothing major! We are all “KPO” – Keeping Plodding on! Love to you and your family! 🙂
Thanks so much, Barbara. I’m really enjoying my hair, although it’s actually almost time for a trim. Take care!
