Winter Classics Outfit – Donegal Tweed Trousers & Red Suede Shoes

Well winter threatens to linger here in Cincinnati for at least a couple more months, so I’m determined to enjoy my winter wardrobe. That’s why I’m excited about this little mini series, the Winter Classics. And I don’t know that there is anything more classic than these Donegal tweed trousers I’m sharing with you today. I’m in love!

Classic Donegal Tweed Trousers
Donegal Tweed Trousers (TTS) (under $40!!) // Ivory Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater // similar camisole underneath // reversible belt // similar handbag // red suede pumps (similar shoes) // similar gold bangle // necklace // earrings // Fitbit // Fitbit band // sunglasses (more economical option)

I’ve had a few readers ask for me to style wool pants, so I was eager to try out these classic wool-blend trousers from Talbots. The great news is they’re still available in all misses sizes (sorry, petites and plus size gals 🙁 ) AND they’re marked down from $129 to just $39.99. Wowsa!

These softly lined pants feature just enough stretch to move and groove with you, a gently flared leg silhouette and a fashionably high waist. I’m a big fan of the Donegal tweed and the pretty chocolatey brown and camel coloring. They fit true to size. (They did come in curvy, but they’re sold out.) So snatch these Donegal tweed trousers up if you’re interested in a classic pant that’s versatile enough for church, work or even everyday graceful living.

Donegal Tweed Trousers

In fact, I styled these Donegal tweed trousers twice last week in “real life,” wearing them to meet up with friends on Friday evening and then to church that Sunday. You can check out how I wore them HERE.

On this day I paired the Donegal tweed trousers with my ivory cashmere turtleneck from Lily Silk. I shared this ultra soft cashmere turtleneck in my YouTube video, 5 Feminine Wardrobe Essentials, sponsored by Lily Silk. So you can still use my coupon code Kay12 to get 12% off of the cashmere turtleneck or anything else you purchase at Lily Silk.

Cashmere Sweater

I am wearing a flesh toned camisole under the cashmere turtleneck, by the way. I find it to be a little sheer in this color. But I think the black, carmine or honey mustard sweaters would also be beautiful with these pants, and they’re undoubtedly not sheer at all. I’m wearing a medium in the sweater.

Jewelry

Since my cashmere turtleneck and the Donegal tweed trousers are such classic garments, I decided to keep my accessories (save one!) rather classic, too. I tucked my sweater in completely and added my reversible brown/black belt (size medium). Then I added my adjustable Presleigh love knot necklace, my classic gold hoop earrings and a gold bangle (similar).

Donegal Tweed Pants

But I think you definitely could take these Donegal tweed trousers in a completely different direction, maybe a little edgier even. I’ll try to style them again soon and do something a little more casual with them. But right now I could envision a black turtleneck and fashionable sneakers and a denim jacket. Or a chambray shirt and loafers.

Since I did go the traditional route, I decided to add a bit of a wow factor with my red suede bock heel pumps. Aren’t they fun? Remember a few months ago when I shared seven style formulas that work every time? This is a good example of the Shoes On, Show Off! formula.

Red Suede Shoes

I prefer to use a little care when I wear these red suede pumps. They’re very comfortable and obviously stunning. But I think it’s best to keep the rest of my outfit rather pared back when I wear them. That doesn’t mean that those other garments can’t be equally beautiful, but simply that they’re not competing for attention. These red suede pumps are 50% off but they’re also almost sold out. I’m linking to others in the shopping widget.

Also, I recently purchased these toffee suede Paul Green Tammy Pumps and look forward to wearing them with these Donegal tweed trousers, among other things. They feel great on and fit true to size. They’re 40% off and still pricey. But these are high quality shoes with soft insoles and uppers, perfect for problem feet.

Winter Classics

My Michael Kors bag is a couple of years old and no longer available. But this Idina medium leather satchel or this Rayne medium Saffiano leather satchel are both comparable and deeply discounted. I love having this exquisite neutral colored satchel in my repertoire. I reach for it so often.

Blessed for My Day

Doing the right thing is often quite difficult. Sometimes I seek God’s wisdom for how I should handle a tough situation, but then when I read the instruction printed in God’s Word I wrestle with obeying it. You, too? I know that in the end God’s Word will always guide me to do the right thing. And I know God blesses those who walk in obedience. But still, when He directs me to unpleasant tasks like forgiveness, biblical confrontation, sacrifice, service or self-denial, something in me sometimes resists.

But I’ve discovered over time that true rest comes when I agree with God. Whether I can comprehend the outcome or not and regardless of how distasteful obedience may seem, if I can choose to relinquish all of that to God and just trust that He knows best, that He’s doing something and that He will indeed provide the strength for the task, I honestly can breathe a little easier. And ultimately there is great joy in letting go and fully cooperating with God’s counsel.

I will bless the Lord who has advised me;
Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.
I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will dwell securely. ~ Psalm 16:7-9

  1. Thanks for another great post Kay!
FYI .. your ads were popping up over your pics & narrative, while the right side of the screen was blank. Maybe it was an issue with my IPad, but thought I’d let you know just in case.

    1. Thanks Frani. I’ll pass that along to my ad company. Sorry about that. Maybe clear your cache on your server too. Thanks for reading!

  2. Good morning, Kay,

Love, love, love your posts and your style!
I joined your DFMD community, but I did not see how to download your e-book. Please share how to get the book.

    Thanks,

    Pat

    1. Hi Pat. You should have received a welcome email with that in it. Check your spam folder if you didn’t see it in your inbox. It should have been the first email you received from me.

  3. Good Morning Kay,
Love the message for today….got me thinking❤️. Beautiful post and beautiful photos. I would’ve never thought of wearing a red pump with what looks like a light brown pant. It really makes the outfit! Super cute!

    Blessings,

  4. Kay- just wanted you to know that I originally came to your blog for your stellar fashion advice but I now find “your blessed for your day” section to be what I look forward to the most. So glad there is ray of hope in these crazy times.
    God’s blessings, Linda

    1. Hi Linda. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog and finding a little inspiration for both your style and your soul. 🌞

  5. Love your outfit with the pop of red. So cute! Love the pants!
Thanks for the inspirational verse also. I too look forward to
it every day. I use it somedays as my devotional for the day.
Of course, your style section is why I came to your blog. Great job.

  6. That touch of red really makes your outfit exceptional, Kay. Thanks for BFMD as well. Everything you shared about obedience and trust is so true. A blessing awaits when I follow what God has for me in His Word.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Suzanne

  7. This outfit is beautiful! And I like the way your hair has been in the last few posts. You tend to make all kinds of clothing and styles look nice though–you have a knack for that! Thanks for continually articulating how you put clothing together. You’ve taken the time to think it all through and share it in a way that makes it so easy to understand. 🙂
Your BFMD post is always edifying, but today’s “hit me between the eyes”! I think it may be helpful for me to meditate on that scripture today. Thanks for the nudge!

  8. I’m the type of person who tries to fix my problems before turning to God. These last two months I’ve learned to lean and become more obedient because some things are just not fixable without his help.
This has to be in the top ten of your great looks. It just ticks every box for me. Beautiful!

    1. I know these have been hard months for you, Eve. And I know God will certainly bless your obedience and trust. Hang in there! God is trustworthy.

      Thanks for reading!

  9. Thank you so much for styling some wool slacks! I really like what you’ve done and esp look forward to the casual looks coming up. Love wearing my wool slacks at home to keep warm. I purchased the red Talbots bag that you’ve styled. I noticed that you haven’t styled it w the red pumps. Do you ever wear red shoes and purse? Or is that just todays choice?

    1. Hi Lael. No I don’t think I’ll wear both the red pumps and red bag together. No rule, of course. Just personal preference…or quirk! 😉

  10. I have to thank you for the video on wednesday. I hadn’t realized the opportunities I was missing to look younger. I switched out the sweater set I was wearing and pulled on a shirt and jeans jacket and was amazed that I not only looked better, I felt better too! I had fix-it solutions in my own closet and wasn’t using them…

  11. I follow several fashion bloggers for women over 50 who also like to dress classic with a twist of modern. But what sets you apart from the others is your wonderful personality and your faith that you share with your readers. You probably have no idea how those little words might impact someone who isn’t hearing anything about the Lord from anyone else. I’m so happy you use the fashion platform God gave you to influence women for Him. Kay, I think we would be friends!

    1. Thank you, Susie. I’m very grateful that God has given me this opportunity and I want to use this platform wisely. So I’m very glad that you see it this way. That’s very encouraging to me. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. 🥰

  12. Kay, Your sharing was an answer to my prayers and helped me to know someone else struggles with doing something out of obedience in spite of not wanting to. Thanks for your transparency. Also I love your shorter hair.

  13. I always come away feeling uplifted after reading your “Blessed for the Day” portion of your blog. I think it’s a wonderful way to finish up a great experience of learning how to improve ourselves to the glory of our Lord
