Feminine & Casual Dress for Spring & Summer

Well yesterday we focused on dresses for attending spring and summer weddings, but today I’m sharing a much more casual dress for spring and summer. This J.Jill seamed maxi dress is marked down already, and they’re offering an additional 30% off today. PLUS it’s still available in most sizes, including petite and tall lengths. Score! I’m so excited to share with you how I styled this pretty mossy green maxi dress.

Maxi Dress for Spring and Summer

I often steer clear of maxi dresses simply because they can look so long and somewhat like a sack. Ha! But on this maxi dress the waist seam and front princess seams give it a feminine shape. I also love that it has on seam pockets that don’t add any bulk at the hips, just a gentle curve appeal.

Seamed Maxi Dress

The soft pima cotton has a lovely drape, so the dress skims your curves without clinging. I appreciate that the 58% cotton, 37% modal rayon and 5% spandex knit dress can be washed in your machine, and you can even machine dry it if you prefer.

I generally size down in dresses and tops at J.Jill, and true to that habit I’m wearing a small in this liberty green maxi dress.

Green Maxi Dress

Of course, the beauty of a one-and-done is that you don’t have to do too much to look pulled together. But this time of year, I’m prone to top a simple dress like this with my denim jacket. While J.Jill has a denim patch-pocket jacket that they’ve paired with this dress, I tried that jacket and felt like the overall look was too blousy and full. I like adding a slightly fitted jacket instead, so my Levi’s original trucker jacket works well here. I have a medium in the Sweet Jane wash.

Patchwork square scarf

A pretty necklace would work well with this knit maxi dress, too, of course. But I chose instead to wear my patchwork-print square scarf, which I also wore in the blues and greens outfit I shared in Monday’s post. This pretty, filmy scarf is proving to be quite versatile with my spring wardrobe.

I really meant to hold this straw satchel bag back until summer, but once I pulled it out to start sharing it on the blog I couldn’t resist putting my things in it and using it “for real.” I bought it at the end of last summer with a gift card I’d received and I’ve been looking forward to using it ever since. It’s the perfect size and so classic.

Straw Bag

I also love that the leather trim on my straw satchel so perfectly matches my Havana tan slingback wedge sandals. I showed both in yesterday’s video with the first wedding guest dress option, but I like them so much better with this outfit. They really work with the earthy vibe of this dress.

The straw satchel is from Brighton, so it’s not inexpensive and will probably never go on sale. But I do have a few more economical straw bag options in the shopping widget below.

shoes and bag

My bracelets are no longer available. But the dragonfly earrings are, and there’s a coordinating dragonfly pendant necklace, too. I wore my Native Nordgreen watch, too. My discount code for Nordgreen is still in effect, by the way. Use code KAYHRMS for 15% off your order. My watch is the Native with three gold links and I have a brown leather strap, too.

Green Dress

We’ve had a turn of warm weather this week, and I actually wore this skirt and these Born sandals from J.Jill yesterday. If today proves to be as warm, I just may wear this dress to lunch today. This is a great outfit for lunch with friends, a date with hubby, an outing with the grandkids or even vacation.

Blessed for My Day

Entitled. That’s a word we hear tossed around a lot lately. But the problem with that conversation is that none of us are really entitled to anything good. It is by the grace of God that we have any of the good blessings we enjoy. Now some of us may get confused on that at times. That’s for sure. But it’s also dangerous.

“Lord, help us to be humble women who know we are indeed blessed. Help us to be grateful women, who daily thank you for the mercies You’ve shown us and the gifts You’ve graced us with. And help us to be generous women who give freely to others because we have been shown such amazing grace and kindness from You.”

“Know, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stubborn people. ~ Deuteronomy 9:6

  1. Such a pretty casual maxi dress Kay! Since it’s simple I can see a lot of options in wearing it.

Also just want to compliment your hubby again on the awesome photos he takes, so professional….

    Blessings,

  2. I love that scarf and how it brightens up the dress. It gives just the right amount of interest. These colours are lovely on you.

  3. I bought the dress in XS and the scarf too! I love J.Jill! Thanks for helping me with good outfits. I went through your site so hopefully you got some credit for it. Your husband does take great photos of you and I also love your haircut. I would like to grow my hair out a few inches and try it myself. 🙂 Have a blessed day. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

  4. Glad to hear that your dermatologist visit was good news. You do suit that green. I have similar colouring to you so I know it will probably suit me too, lol. But at 5’3″ I find midi-dresses are just too long for me and I’m better with knee length. So I just have to enjoy seeing them on other (taller ) ladies!

    1. Thanks so much Sue. They do have the dress in petite, too. But I understand about midi dresses. I know they’re not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea. 😉

  5. Great news from your dermatologist visit. My husband used the medicine on his basal cell spot under his eye, next to his nose. He saw his doctor today, and it is completely healed. You really can’t see where it was, but I do have to warn you. During the period you apply the medication, the spot will get so red and blistering that you will be alarmed. My husband even sent a picture to the doctor to look at, and he assured him that was normal. Once you stop the treatment, it heals pretty quickly, but I just wanted to let you know ahead of time so you can be prepared.

    1. Yeah, that’s why we’re waiting until the fall – so I won’t be in the sun as much but also so I won’t need as many photos. Yeah, we actually talked about that! She said it would be very bad for 5-6 weeks. So I’m pretty prepared. Thanks for sharing your husband’s experience. That’s hopeful!

  6. I love this maxi dress on you! It’s stunning. In fact, it looks better on you than on the store model!
