Happy Saturday! I don’t normally post on Saturdays lately. But since I shared a special Good Friday video on inner beauty yesterday, I wanted to sneak in here with this week’s installment in my How I Really Dressed for My Day series. If I don’t share these daily looks on a weekly basis I accumulate too many and the next post becomes extremely long. Plus, some of these things I wore this past week are on sale. Score!
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
How This Works
I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all, these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.
I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. But if I forget to do that, just ask.
How I Really Dressed for Friday
Well, I started out in this outfit Friday anyhow. It was a pretty day, and I needed to get out to the mall, shipping places and Talbots to make a few returns. Yeah, I do that at least once a week! #bloggerlife But I also wanted to swing by a nearby park just to get some “steps” in for my Fitbit. (That thing’s a task master!) So I dressed pretty casually.
I love wearing soft pink or rose with khaki. So I really liked the way this look came together with my canyon khaki cropped cargo chinos and blush rose sweatshirt from last year. And the light toffee suede espadrilles really pulled the whole look together. I would have loved to have worn a white tee under this sweatshirt, but alas it was a little warm for that Friday.
So instead I just layered on the jewelry! I especially like the summery splash of color from my customized pendant necklace in bronze veined teal magnesite. My Dune straw satchel was the obvious choice for stepping out the door.
When I was in one of the stores making returns I accidently squirted hand sanitizer all over my sweatshirt. Ugh. So when I purchased a blush colored cotton and linen sweater (you’ll see it in a minute!) I changed into that and wore it the rest of the day.

Saturday we shot photos and, for most of the afternoon, I wore the dress featured in this post. Then Sunday I had an adverse reaction to something I ate the night before, and ended up staying home from church. Bleh. Monday I was glued to my desk editing Wednesday’s video, so I never got out of my workout clothes (yeah, I have those days, too).
So we’re moving along to Tuesday!
What I Wore Tuesday
Tuesday I was able to get out of the house for a bit because I’d already edited my video for Wednesday. Yay for working ahead! So while I did spend most of the day working (after I got in a good workout and walk), I also put in a grocery order and went to pick it up. So yeah, I got dressed up to pull into the grocery store parking lot. Hahaha!
I had been anxious to wear these fatigue barrel pants I’d gotten from Everlane last week. I love them! I did need to size up to a 10 in these, but I’m okay with that for pants that are as slimming but still modern as these are. Yes, you read that right. These full leg pants have a barrel or balloon shape that is actually quite slimming, as far as modern pant silhouettes go. They have a slenderizing high waist and then they just naturally fall from the hips and then taper in at the ankles. Quite lovely really.
I’m wearing the fatigue barrel pants in walnut brown, but they also come in black and bay leaf green (love the green!). They’re made from a lightweight 94% organic cotton and 6% linen fabric that is perfect for the spring and summer. And they actually have a matching relaxed fit blazer, but I didn’t get that. I also got these pants in black and I’m showing them in a fashion post next week.
I just paired the fatigue barrel pants with the cotton and linen sweater I’d picked up at J.Jill on Friday. Since moving to Ohio I’ve been learning how to wear long sleeves and long pants in the spring but still create a “cool” warm weather look. I think these kind of separates would also be great for a vacation to the northern coasts where the temps tend to be cooler even in the summer.
How I Really Dressed for Wednesday
After getting my work done Wednesday morning I hopped on a Zoom conference to record a podcast for The Pastor Wife Life with podcaster Jacque Garner. That was a lot of fun. Afterwards I bundled up in my trench coat and headed out to look at furniture. We haven’t bought any new furniture in almost 20 years, and it’s time!
This is another example of dressing for spring in the north. Ha! On this day the weather began to change. We’d had very warm, sunny days. But on Wednesday we had clouds and rain moved in. So it was quite chilly. I was determined to wear my espadrilles however. They worked well with my denim jeggings and pointelle white sweater. Of course, I’m wearing a white reversible tank underneath my sweater.
By the way, I’m showing you lots of items from Talbots and J.Jill in this post. So let me give you the scoop on their sales.
At Talbots you’ll get 25% off your purchase, but you can use code CELEBRATE to get 40% off one item. That special is valid just through Saturday. You’ll also get free shipping on orders over $150. J.Jill is giving you 30% off your purchase with code SPRING21.
What I Wore Thursday
And then Thursday it snowed all day! Well, they were just flurries and there was absolutely no accumulation. But it was freezing and snowy all day long. I had a doctor’s appointment (just a checkup), so I needed to bundle up and get out there. But I’ve put away my winter clothes and had no desire to pull them out and wear them.
So I layered on enough warmth to suffice. I wore my high waist straight leg jeans from Talbots with my blue merino rib turtleneck from Everlane. So I created a column of blue. Then I topped the outfit with my camel blazer.
I needed to wear socks because my ankles were freezing, but I didn’t feel like pulling out my boots. So I wore my modern/retro trainers from Madewell. I realize these trainers were a bold choice, but I think they work with the jeans and blazer. I added my black Tumi backpack just to seal the deal.
I think the key to wearing these sneakers is making them look like an intentional choice. And because they have a camel stripe on them (although you can’t really see it in my photo), it’s obvious I paired them with the blazer. I felt very happy with the look and wore it with confidence, which I also think is key to pulling off a trendy look like this.
How I Really Dressed for My Day Friday
Friday was still very cold, but I didn’t go anywhere. So I didn’t have to wear socks. Ha! I topped my black super straight jeans with my pink cotton shaker stitch sweater. By the way, the sweater is marked down and you can get those extra savings I mentioned earlier, too.
I had purposely kept my black loafers in my closet as year-round footwear, so they were the perfect choice for this outfit. Plus, they’re soooo comfortable! Better than bedroom slippers. My Paul Green Dazzle loafers are almost sold out, but these are similar and marked down even more. And while I have these Diana Kiltie Fringe loafers in python, the black looks similar to mine here. But these Franco Sarto black patent leather loafers get the prize for the best deal.
So that’s how I dressed for my days this week. Thanks so much for dropping in to check out my daily outfits. I hope you got a little style inspiration. And I hope I have some better weather next week! Have a happy Easter, dear friend.

Blessed for My Day
Not only do we serve a God who loved us enough to send His only begotten Son to die in our place for our sins, but we also serve a mighty God. We serve a risen Savior who conquered both sin and death on our behalf. Because He is risen, we can face whatever tomorrow holds. We know that the future here on earth looks dubious, but our eternal future is bright.
Because we serve a risen Savior we can trust that He is alive and working on our behalf. He is interceding for us at the throne of the Father. He is preparing a place for us in heaven. He will return for us. And He will reign forever and ever. Amen.
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” ~ Matthew 28:5-7
I always get a giggle when you mention the changing weather in the north. Living in Michigan my entire life, we could and have had snow on Memorial Day. I really appreciate the fact that you fashion clothing for the colder spring temps. Have a blessed weekend. Happy Easter.
I know what you mean! I grew up in Iowa so snow could still happen in May; rare, but does happen occasionally. While I was in college in Iowa, my (visiting) English professor from the south said that before coming to Iowa she couldn’t understand why poets wrote about Spring and were so excited for it. But, after living through a Winter in Iowa, she confessed that she certainly understood the poets excitement for Spring! HAPPY EASTER!
Great looks, Kay! I live in PA and the weather here is very similar to yours in Ohio. Thank you for your inner beauty post yesterday about the true meaning of Easter.
Have a blessed weekend!
Happy Easter to you and your family,
Suzanne
Have a Blessed Easter. We’re beginning to warm up here in South Texas. I do enjoy your videos and posts.
Blesings, Jackie
Thank you Jackie. I hope you have a wonderful Easter too. 😊
I felt the same way about the southern Michigan weather this week! Really enjoy your ideas about layering for spring and fall outfits. Since I am an OR Nurse & we change into scrubs at work, my co workers are commenting on how nice I am dressing since following your blog!
Have a Blessed Easter!
Bebe
Wonderful 🙌🏻. People really do notice. 😉
I agree with another commenter…..Living in a northern state, I love seeing the ‘warm’ spring styles you wear. I am tired of seeing little sun dresses and sandals on bloggers when I still see snow out my window! 🙂 I am bundled up in boots and coats still!
Hahaha! Well I guess I used to be one of those bloggers when I lived in Arizona. It’s hard to be completely in sync with everyone during these transitional times. But I’m happy to oblige now! 😉
Living in the U.K. we don’t really shed our winter coats till May, lol. But this week we had two days at 20 degrees so I could wear a denim jacket. Yay!
I love the trainers with the camel jacket, Kay, I think it looks very modern and youthful. I’m also a convert to that shade of pink from Friday’s picture as you suit it so much, and , having similar colouring to you, I’ve realised that I suit it too! Learning a lot from your videos and blog!
Happy Easter to you and yours!
Wonderful! I’m so glad you like the look with the retro trainers. And yes that rosy pink is a winner! Thanks so much for sharing all your thoughts. I love it!
I loved every outfit you wore this week. You look so nicely and appropriately dressed for your every day you are a great inspiration for me. I try to look my best every day because of you.
Blessed Easter to you too.
Thank you Elaine. You’re worth it! I’m so glad you’re finding a little fashion inspiration here. 😉💕
Your blog is so much fuller than others. It is packed with different looks and tips. You spoil us. I’m declaring this “Lighten the load “ year. I know I’m going to step back a little.
My favorite pink sweater and I really do like the sneakers with this outfit. It just works. Around the house this time of year, I like a sweatshirt with a heavy chambray shirt used as a jacket. It’s my April uniform. I finally found that elusive faded pink, chambray shirt. 🐣Happy Easter!
Hey, you’re April uniform sounds perfect. I love that!
Kay, He is risen! Have a blessed Easter!!
You too, Natalie! Thanks.
Hi Kay, love your blog and get lots of ideas from it. In Australia we’re in autumn (fall to you) so the weather is beautiful, warm days still but cooler nights. In between clothing perfect for layering is the way to go. I’ve never had a denim jacket, but after seeing how good you look in yours I splurged and bought one for myself. I’m 70 years young and love it! Happy Easter to you all! He is risen!
Wonderful! I hope you enjoy your denim jacket. I love wearing mine in autumn. Thanks so much for saying hello. 😊
