Hello, and welcome to Dressed for My Day. Well it’s turning out to be a fitting room week! After going to the dentist yesterday, I decided to meet up with my husband for lunch. And since I was close to the mall…and quite a distance from my house…I decided to squeeze in another try-on session or two. Today I’m sharing a few things from Loft and Ann Taylor.

This post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links.

Loft and Ann Taylor Try-On Session

These two sister stores are longtime favorites of mine. They run almost continuous sales, carry fairly well made styles and generally they’re clothing works well for me. I especially love Ann Taylor for shoes and suiting, which I am showing here, and appreciate Loft for shorts and casual tees.

Current Deals

At Loft right now you can get 30% off summer styles and 50% off Lou & Grey with code SOGOOD. The two offers are not combinable. And at Ann Taylor use code HEAT to get $75 off your $250+ purchase, $50 off your $200+ purchase and $25 off your $150+ purchase.

Try-On Session Basics

I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155 right now. I have an X or hourglass shape and fairly even proportions. I generally wear smalls or mediums in shirts, tops, dresses, coats, etc. I almost always take an 8 in pants, jeans, skirts, shorts or dresses. Unless I tell you otherwise, these are the sizes I’m wearing in the photos.

If you have any questions about anything I show, please ask me in the comments section below. Other women may benefit from reading my response to your question.

In these photos I’m also wearing…

Loft Try-On Session

At Loft I found some great denim shorts and tees, as well as a couple of dress/skirt options. First up I tried on this little Striped Button Trim Pull On Midi Skirt. I paired it with an everyday v-neck tee and with a Lacy Sleeveless Button Down Shirt.

Loft 5

I’m wearing mediums in all three pieces. I might could have sized down to smalls in the tops for a trimmer fit. I think the Striped Button Trim Pull On Midi Skirt is a really nice option if you’re looking for easy breezy summer skirts. It is a little sheer, so you might want to wear a half slip underneath. And be mindful of the slit in the front if that is a concern.

Next I tried the Clip Dot Dolman Shirtdress. It is so soft and comfortable, but not especially figure flattering, of course. But if you’re just looking for something cool and fresh to wear for everyday, I think this is a great choice. Unfortunately, it’s a preview selection, so it’s not discounted. But the striped dolman pocket shift dress is just like it and it is included in the 30% off deal.

Loft 2
Clip Dot Dolman Shirtdress (check out the striped dolman pocket shift dress for a better deal)

Again, I’m wearing a medium and might could have sized down to a small. But I do think the dress is supposed to have a pretty loose fit. I appreciate that the dress has pockets. Oh, and it has a slip, too. The slip is not attached, so you can remove it and wear your own favorite. But I do think the little cotton slip works well, too. The striped dolman pocket shift dress listing does not mention a slip, so it may not have one (or even need one).

Loft 1
Eyelet Smocked Yoke Swing Dress

The Eyelet Smocked Yoke Swing Dress above was in my fitting room when I got in there, so I tried it on, too. It’s a roomy fitting dress, but I think it’s fun if you like this kind of fit. And this Eyelet Smocked Yoke Swing Dress is on sale and you get another 50% off with code SOGOOD. I’m wearing the medium, so you might consider sizing down if you want a trimmer fit.

I intended to include a shopping widget with lots of great dress options from Loft, but I can’t get many of them to load. So you might just want to check out the full inventory of dresses for yourself HERE. In years past I’ve felt that many of Loft’s dresses were to short for me, maybe geared more to very young women or teens. But this year I’m finding more that I feel like are a good length for us older gals.

Loft 3
High Rise Cotton Linen Pull On Wide Leg Jeans In Indigo Seas // Seashell Everyday Crew Neck Tee

I envisioned my readers packing for a beach vacation when I tried on this High Rise Cotton Linen Pull On Wide Leg Jeans In Indigo Seas and Seashell Everyday Crew Neck Tee combo. I think this casual outfit would be so nice for dinner out while on vacation. But these High Rise Cotton Linen Pull On Wide Leg Jeans In Indigo Seas could certainly serve multiple purposes.

I will say that the High Rise Cotton Linen Pull On Wide Leg Jeans In Indigo Seas are not especially lightweight. The full leg gives you an easy breezy feel, but the fabric is more on the heavy side. I’m wearing a medium in both pieces.

Next I tried on the Fresh Cut High Waist Boyfriend Shorts In Light Wash. The website says these are an online exclusive, but I’m pretty sure these are the same shorts. They are extremely comfortable and, I think, quite flattering. I especially like the high waist. I know that doesn’t work for all proportions. But if you can wear a high waist, it really is flattering because it hits right at the smallest area of your torso.

Loft 4
Fresh Cut High Waist Boyfriend Shorts // Palm Tie Dye Surf Tee

The Fresh Cut High Waist Boyfriend Shorts come in one other wash, too. I’m wearing my true to size 29, and I like the way they fit.

I paired the Fresh Cut High Waist Boyfriend Shorts with the Palm Tie Dye Surf Tee. Again, I was envisioning you on a beach vacation. Ha! I’ve already been on my little vacation, so I guess I’m dreaming for you. Anyhow this Palm Tie Dye Surf Tee fits true to size and is oh so soft. I also like the shorter length. In fact, I noticed that many of Lofts tees have a shorter length, which is really nice for many of us.

Remember, you can use code SOGOOD to get 50% off Lou & Grey (athleisure and loungewear) and 30% off summer favorites at Loft. They have so much more on their website than in the store. This is one store that I definitely suggest shopping online rather than in the store. I was quite disappointed with the inventory at mine. But I’m very impressed with what I see on the website.

Ann Taylor Try-On Session

Ann Taylor fashions are generally dressier than Loft’s, but still geared somewhat to a youthful demographic. That said, I find their staples to be flattering and appropriate for women of all ages. Again, my local Ann Taylor had a very minimal inventory. I had seen so many things on the website that I wanted to try, and none of them were there. So I’m showing you the few things I found that I felt would resonate with my readers.

First up, a pair of fairly dressy pull on shorts in a linen blend.

pull on shorts in a linen blend // tiered cutout shell

I’m wearing the medium and I’d say they fit true to size. These are very blousy shorts, but a cool option if, like me, you have fuller legs. And they’re so comfortable. Here I tried them with a raw honey colored tiered cutout shell. While I tend to tuck or at least front tuck my tops, this tiered top seems appropriate for leaving out. And I think the combination works for a very casual, relaxed look.

I’m wearing a medium in the tiered cutout shell. It’s also available in white. Next I tried the tiered cutout shell with a black gauze pull on maxi skirt. They have a similar skirt in a floral print, a white gauze and a geo print.

Ann Taylor 6
black gauze pull on maxi skirt // tiered cutout shell

I’m wearing a medium in the maxi skirt. I think pairing the maxi skirt with the tiered cutout shell creates a sort of dress. I had a reader ask recently about creating an elevated Bohemian look. I think this would qualify.

But I also tried on the maxi skirt with this tropical rose pink gauze split neck blouse. And here I tucked in the top all the way around, blousing it a little. On the right I’m just showing you how the length and hem of the blouse. I wouldn’t wear it that way.

I’m wearing mediums in both pieces above.

Next I shifted gears and tried on a couple of things for the office or church or other dressier events. I love the tropical rose color of this Cutout Flutter Sleeve Top. I’m wearing a medium and it fits true to size. I have this full top tucked in the front.

Cutout Flutter Sleeve Top // Ankle Pant // Similar shoes

I’m wearing the Cutout Flutter Sleeve Top with the Ankle Pant in Atlantic Navy. I’m wearing the curvy fit in a size 8 and they fit nicely. But I definitely have to have the curvy fit in most of Ann Taylor’s dress pants.

The Ankle Pant also comes in black and is made of 88% Cotton, 12% Elastane, for a bi-stretch comfort. The pants are tailored trim with belt loops, front onseam pockets and back Besom pockets. They are quite comfortable and so very workplace appropriate.

Ann Taylor 4
linen blend sweater // Atlantic Navy Ankle Pant

I guess I need to start carrying window cleaner wipes with me to these try-on sessions. Ha!

Anyhow, above I’m wearing the Atlantic Navy Ankle Pant with the linen blend sweater in sail cloth. This beautiful cap sleeve sweater also comes in three other shades. I’m wearing my TTS 8. If I worked outside the home, I would consider at summer linen blend sweater like this to be a wardrobe essential. But you can find a similar button front option with a longer sleeve here.

I paired the linen blend sweater with some beautiful suiting below. I’m wearing it with the Straight Pant in linen herringbone. This time they didn’t have the curvy fit in the pants, so I sized up to a 10. These do fit, but I’d probably prefer the 8 in the curvy just because I know those curvy fits usually work well for me with AT. Then again, since they’re white pants, I might would stick with this 10. Anyhow just consider either sizing up or going with the curvy fit (if needed) for these more sheer pants.

I simply showed the Straight Pant in linen herringbone and the linen blend sweater above with different shoes so you could see how they fit lengthwise and how they’d work with different footwear options.

And below I added the One Button Blazer In Linen Herringbone. I also took the photo in a different place and you can see that the color of the suit darkened a bit. I’d say the suit is definitely the lighter, whiter shade, but it’s also not a true white. It’s a beautiful, creamy white.

Remember, Ann Taylor is having a buy more save more event with $75 off your $250+ purchase, $50 off your $200+ purchase and $25 off your $150+ purchase when you use the code HEAT. And this is an ONLINE ONLY deal.

Thanks for going shopping with me. And let me know if you have any questions about the fashions I shared here or anything else I may have seen in the stores. It’s a pleasure serving you.

Blessed for My Day

When we spend time with Jesus, we change. We become more courageous and less timid. We develop more faith and shed our anxieties. We become hopeful, whereas others may be dismayed. It doesn’t happen instantaneously…always. But with consistent time in His presence and reading His Word, we experience a change in our character.

Are you aching to be wiser, calmer, more gracious? Would you like to be more confident, handle your time more wisely, look to the future with more assurance? I can offer no better advice than to carve out time to be with Jesus today. Not only will He change you – with time – from the inside out, but He’s amazingly gentle and delightful to be with.

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. ~ Acts 4:13

  1. So, when you went by the church to have lunch with James, did you stop for take out? LOL
I love the white top in the first photo and the pink and navy combo is something I really like. I’m on the fence about the white pants suit look. I love the neutral look with top but I think I’d look like a big white square in it because I’m short at 5’3’.
Spending time with Jesus would make a great book title. Loved BFMD

    1. Hi Eve, James went by Chic-Fil-A and picked up lunch. We were supposed to meet at a park to eat, but his order was quite late, so I needed to meet him at the church instead. We have a lovely little picnic place outside the church.

      1. Kay….your hair looks more layered in these photos and looks fabulous. I have not commented lately as I have been extremely busy at work, etc. I really enjoy your try on sessions. Thank you for doing these. I also have enjoyed reading about your vacations and the latest about Abigail. Above all, there are many times I scroll to the bottom to read DFMD and always can’t wait to read what “you” wrote. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with quoting something someone said, however you always put a special touch in your BFMD because of “your” words and I greatly appreciate how God is using your talent of writing to do so.

        1. Thanks so much Lisa for sharing your thoughts. It was good to see you hear. I’m glad you enjoy the blessings. That’s very encouraging. Take care! 💕

  2. Oh, that people would know that I’ve been with Jesus! Thank you for a wonderful BFMD message.

My favorite looks on you are the gold top and black shorts/maxi skirt! Did you purchase any of these?

    1. Hi Beth, No I didn’t purchase anything from Ann Taylor. I remembered seeing other things online that I preferred so decided to come home and shop online. I’ll let you gals know if I do end up buying a few things from there. But I did buy the denim shorts and a different tee from Loft. I’m showing it on the blog soon.

  3. I love Ann Taylor! I buy her clothes I have not really been disappointed I like the pink blouse and navy pants, Though not too sure about the neckline. I wear pink and blues or navy together and I think it looks really nice. I love the black shorts and honey color top on you, it Looks nice on you know I can’t wear that color. I also like the white and beige and white blazer together and linen top. These are probably my favorite you showed. Not too crazy about the Loft items though I have bought Items from them. Of course I like the BFMD. We all need to draw near and spend time with Jesus.

    1. I’m so glad you liked the post, Sherry. HOnestly, I was thinking of you when I picked Ann Taylor. I knew you and a few other readers really prefer the more tailored and dressier clothes. I try to provide a balance, but I’m sure I sometimes lean toward one side or the other. And with this last year’s stay-home orders it got difficult to show dressy clothes. But I’m trying to do more from here on out.

  4. Just had to comment on how much younger you look in these clothes!!! Couldn’t choose a favorite, they were all very becoming on you.

    1. Thank you Teresa. I think that may be partly to due to me wearing my hair this way too. I like to change it up occasionally. But I did enjoy the selections at these stores.

  5. You tried on some great pieces at both stores. I did not realize that they are sister stores. I really like the Palm Tie Dye Surf Tee, Gauze Split Neck Blouse, and the Linen Blend Sweater in sail cloth. I didn’t see whether or not you took anything home with you. I hope that you have had a good day!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing Ginger. I came home with a couple of things from Loft but not AT. I’m checking out more of their offerings online.

  6. This 72 year old would love to buy everything you showed us from Loft, throw it all in a bag with my sunscreen and head for the beach. You looked amazing in all of it!!!

  7. I love the dresses from Loft. Being in my late 60’s I wear either longer Bermudas or slacks and keep my shorts for my home and backyard. But those dresses look like something I would wear for everyday errands and just going out and about. They look so cool, too. I’m not a fan of jeans in hot weather. Love your choices.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing Willow. I’m glad you saw some things you like. I’m discovering that we alll dress very differently in the summer depending on our climate and our personal preferences, so I’m trying really hard to provide a glimpse at a cross section of items. Thanks so much dropping in today. 😊

  8. Thanks for taking us shopping with you. It’s fun! Like shopping with a girlfriend.
So many of the outfits look good on you. I think my two favourites were from Talbots – the red dress (which I hope you go back and purchase) and the light blue summer jeans with matching blue graphic tee. Love the soft blue colour.
Your BFMD posts from today, yesterday, and the day before really resonated with me. Thank you for your openness, showing us that you have similar life struggles, finding solace through faith, meditation, prayer and reading the Bible.

    1. Thanks so much for reading and for sharing your thoughts Susan. I always read all of the comments and enjoy them so much. 🥰

  9. Kay….your hair looks more layered in these photos and looks fabulous. I have not commented lately as I have been extremely busy at work, etc. I really enjoy your try on sessions.
