Happy Friday! I’ve had a busy, but good week. Our weather was pleasantly cool and brisk for a few days (but we’re back in the heat today!) and I’ve been busy with the kind of work I enjoy. Oh, and some of my furniture is being delivered today. Yay! But before this post turns into a Coffee Talk with Kay, let’s get to the task at hand. On Fridays I share How I Really Dressed for My Day!

For once I think I can actually remember what I wore on which days. And I remember what I was doing. Maybe that little vacation to visit family and friends did me some good!
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
What I Wore Friday
Last Thursday I rode home from Georgia with my daughter Abigail and her new beau. It went well, ladies. Ha! I mean, I’d just met the young man the week before. But he drove well and we all enjoyed an uneventful drive and good conversation.
That Friday I rose early to get things a little in order. Remember, Abigail and her fella came to a home we’d just barely moved into and then left for vacation. So we’re not decorated at all, and I needed to do some laundry and tidy things up a bit. I also wrote Friday’s post and prepped Monday’s. Then we headed out to lunch together. I wore these tie waist cropped pants and a simple tee.
Unfortunately my drawcord waist crop pants are basically sold out, but these are quite similar.
How I Dressed Saturday
I look so tired in this photo. Hahaha! Let me explain. Our son Daniel and his wife Stephanie joined us all on Saturday for the day. We were supposed to go kayaking and then play games and grill out. But the huge rain storm we had on Friday caused the river to rise too high for safe kayaking, so our trip was cancelled. We just played a long game (but it was fun!) and then grilled out. It was a great day. But by the time we snapped this photo in the evening, I was dragging a bit.
I’d ordered these organic cotton jersey lantern pants from Eileen Fisher the week before and they just happened to arrive Friday. They were the perfect white pants to wear for a sweet day at home playing games with my family. Yes, they are very pricey. But they are luxuriously soft and cozy, but still chic and flattering.
How I Dressed for My Day Sunday
Sunday Abby and her boyfriend went to church with me. James preached a great sermon and our church served Dad’s Root Beer floats between the services. I’m not much for root beer, but it was more for the men anyhow. It was a good day to be with our church family.
I finally wore the white embroidered cotton moss shift dress (lower price option) I shared in this video, How to Wear a White Dress Like a Boss this Summer. I wish it were marked down, but, alas, it is not. I did discover, however that this dress also comes in black and in blue chambray. Sweet!
We ate lunch at Bob Evans’ so the kids could get on the road and head home. It was a lovely day and I think James enjoyed his Father’s Day, too.
What I Wore Monday
Monday I spent a good portion of the morning buying my new phone. I had to drive from store to store to get the one I wanted. And then I did a try-on session at Talbots for Tuesday’s post. I wore this lightweight puckered linen set (sold separately) from Eileen Fisher.
I call these my adult shorts. Ha! They’re comfortable, lightweight, long enough but not close to the body like most Bermudas and black.
How I Dressed for Tuesday
Tuesday I dressed in athleisurewear, as I normally do on video editing days. But my day went a little haywire when we discovered that Wednesday’s video had been “eaten by the dog.” Ha! So I scurried off to do a try-on session at Old Navy. The photos below are not from that day. I completely forgot to take a photo on Tuesday, so I snapped these yesterday. So I didn’t really wear these earrings that day.
I really love how this tie front stripe tee works with these lightweight stretch wrap hem crops to create a lean monochromatic look. And it’s all so comfortable. By the way, this tie front stripe tee also features sweet buttons down the back and it’s available in a soft blue, too.
What I Wore Wednesday
Wednesday I went to the dentist for a cleaning and then had lunch with James outside. Since I was near the mall, I decided to do yet two more try-on sessions, this time at Loft and Ann Taylor. I absolutely LOVED wearing this oh-so-soft and sweet black shirtdress from Everlane.
I’m bummed that this dress is sold out in the larger sizes. But I’m wearing a size 8 and it’s plenty roomy. So if you’re smaller than me or even just have narrower shoulders, you could wear a smaller size. It is luxuriously soft and lightweight. It felt casual, but pulled together and lovely.
How I Dressed for My Day Thursday
Yesterday I spent most of the day prepping for a photo shoot last evening. That involved accessorizing, ironing, steaming, trying things on, just pulling things together and loading them in the car. As I type that up, that doesn’t seem like much. But I was still working on it until six o’clock when we left for the shoot. Somewhere amidst all the trying on of things, I ended up in this sweet and soft dress from L.L.Bean (similar).
This dress is just perfect for a casual day at home, but it’s also perfectly appropriate for getting out and about. It felt feminine and soft and just lovely. Unfortunately this particular print is no longer available, but the dress comes in black here, several other colors and prints here and a new print here (my favorite). I’m wearing a medium.

Blessed for My Day
If your friends and family were to change your name to reflect your character, what would they change it to? Hmm. That can be a hard question to answer. But that’s exactly what happened to Jo. He was named Joseph by his father and mother, but later the apostles renamed him Barnabas, which means son of encouragement. Barnabas was an encourager. He helped people reach their potential, stay on track, see the bigger picture and keep the faith.
But that brings us back to the question at hand. What would your closest associates, friends and family name you to reflect your personality, activity and character? Let’s think on that today as we go through our day. Maybe we’ll even get brave and ask someone what they would name us. But most importantly, let’s ask God to reveal to us how we show up in other people’s lives. And then let’s allow Him to direct us to make any necessary changes so that we bless others the way Barnabas blessed the early church.
Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. ~ Acts 4:36-37
Your Wednesday hair looked so pretty!!
Hi Kay,
You may have been tired, but that’s okay, it happens. Anyway, you looked beautiful in the pale blue and white outfit! One thing about Eileen Fisher’s line, the clothes are simple in design and of excellent quality. I find EF items mix very well with other things in my closet. I watch for Sales!
I love the blue and white, cross over dress and also the black one. I know I don’t stand a mouse hairs chance of getting over there in time to find my size but thats what happens when you follow a major influencer of fashion.😊
I think friends would call me honey cause I’m sweet natured but family would call me Calamity.
Love the white shift dress!
Your backyard looks so private and pretty! You look so nice in every outfit in this post. Yesterday Larry commented that likes it when women wear dresses and dress like a lady. I told him that I am trying to find a few casual dresses that fit my body and that I like. I know that they are out there somewhere, in my price range. I really like the black dress and the LLBean dress, so I will be checking them out. It sounds like James had a nice Fathers Day. Your BFMD is thought provoking. Our neighbors that are widowers come to me for various things, but I’m not sure what one word they would us to describe me. Since 2017 I have been known as Momma Moose. How is your little dog adjusting to the new home? I wish you a day filled with blessings!
I love the black Everlane dress, but unfortunately it’s sold out in my size! I have two pairs of the linen Nordstrom Caslon pants (your similar pick) and they’re my go to summer pants. Thanks for the inspiring video!
Hello
I am new to your blog and I love it! I actually went to Talbots yesterday and bought that outfit. It is really comfortable and flattering g. I also got the jacket and the pants in blue as well.
Wear do you live?
Maribeth
Hi Maribeth. Welcome to Dressed for My Day. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog. I live in the Cincinnati area but I’m originally from Georgia.
Kay, I love your blog and videos! You have inspired me to really enjoy the beauty of clothes again. Especially your wisdom on life and God. It’s lovely to have all this in one format. Aging with grace is truly a gift. I wonder if you have done anything on how you organize and store your clothes so you are aware of all the different items you have available?
Hi Maureen. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the blog. I haven’t yet done a post in storage or organization. We were in a small rental home for almost two years and things were well organized but not very photogenic at all. We just moved into our new home less than a month ago and I’m still playing around with storage and organization. But I’ll definitely try to do a post on that in the next few months. 🥰
I agree with the poster above commenting on your Wednesday hair looking so pretty. I have a similar cut and it always seems to be more straight and flat than I want after round brushing out my natural wavy hair. I actually took a screenshot of your Wednesday photo to take to my hairstylist this month. Any pointers you may share on how you fixed your hair that day would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to reading your blog everyday. You are a true inspiration. Thank you for all your hard work you put into this blog.
Hi Kerry. I like my hair that way, too. The problem is that it never looks good at all on the second day when I style it like that. And I prefer to only wash my hair every 3-4 days. I had washed it that day and just let it air dry for the most part. Then I finished it off a little with the diffuser attachment on my hairdryer. But the next day it was terrible so I had to wash and dry it for a photo shoot. I do like to let it dry like they about once a week though. I just think it looks nice and casual and youthful.
Thank you for the info. You inspired me to try to let my hair be a bit more natural some days! 🙂
