September 3, 2021

Happy Friday! Are you ready for a long weekend? Of course if you’re retired a long weekend may not mean much to you. But we do have some great sales going on this weekend. So today I’m sharing four things in my closet that haven’t been on sale, but now are. And I’m giving you a rundown of some great Labor Day weekend sales I found that are worth shopping. And I’m sharing what’s in my cart. (Actually I’ve already pulled the trigger on a few of them because I think they’re going to go fast!)

I have a Labor Day question for you at the end of the post, so be sure to read all the way through. I’d love for you to participate in my question.

Great Labor Day Weekend Sales

4 Things in My Closet On Sale Now

I perused my How I Really Dressed for My Day posts looking for items that I’ve really enjoyed a lot this summer that are now on sale for the weekend. And I found some winners!

Caslon Shirttail Dress & Platform Flip Flops

It’s disappointed me all summer that these Caslon items haven’t been marked down. But this weekend both the Caslon Shirttail Dress and the Platform Flip Flops are 40% off. And the best news? They’re both still well stocked and available in other colors.

What I Wore Saturday
Caslon Shirttail Dress & Platform Flip Flops // Veronica Hoop Earrings (also on sale!)

By the way, those Veronica Hoop Earrings I’m wearing above (and almost every day!) are also on sale at Kendra Scott. You’ll get 20% off everything at Kendra Scott, but if you sign up for texts from them you can even get 25% off everything.

The Caslon Shirttail Dress & Platform Flip Flops both fit true to size. And they come in other colors, too.

Everlane Parklet Shirtdress (in blue houndstooth)

You know I have worn my black Everlane Parklet Dress like crazy this summer. I’ve even spared you from the past few weeks OOTDs because I’ve just been wearing so many repeats, but I’ve worn this great shirtdress even more than ever. Unfortunately the black dress is still not on sale. But I was so surprised to discover that they’d actually restocked the Parklet Shirtdress in the blue houndstooth.

The black Everlane Parklet Shirtdress is still full price, but Everlane Parklet Shirtdress (in blue houndstooth) is 15% off for a limited time.

So just to be clear, the black Everlane Parklet Shirtdress is still full price, but it is stocked in most sizes. I love, love, love this easy to wear dress. And I’ve ordered the Everlane Parklet Shirtdress in blue houndstooth just this morning. This dress has already sold out once this summer. I expect it to go fast. And the price will also eventually go back up if it doesn’t sell out. I have the size 8.

L.L.Bean Beach Cruiser Summer Shirt

I’ve also been waiting all summer to announce that this L.L.Bean Beach Cruiser Summer Shirt is marked down. Well, it finally is! I love this soft, breezy hiking shirt.

Hiking clothes
Women’s Vista Trekking Shorts // Beach Cruiser Summer Shirt

I so wish that the Women’s Vista Trekking Shorts were also discounted. But, alas, they are not. However, the Beach Cruiser Summer Shirt is still available (in limited size choices) in all three color options. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium. This shirt is silky soft, breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick drying. It has lovely buttons and a nice amount of stretch for easy movement.

Peak Lapel Boyfriend Blazer

I am beyond tickled that my Peak Lapel Boyfriend Blazer is 40% off this weekend. Wowsa! This jacket has not been on sale at all since I purchased it (that I know of). I keep an eye on the listing at Express because so many of my readers have asked about it. It actually sold out in this color last spring, but they must have restocked it for the fall.

Great Labor Day Weekend Sales (2)
Peak Lapel Boyfriend Blazer is 40% off this weekend only

The Peak Lapel Boyfriend Blazer runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium. It is nicely lined, has a great drape and is a nice longer length without being completely oversized. The jacket also comes in ivory, cabernet and blush mauve. But this pecan shade (which definitely reads like a true neutral toned camel) will sell out fast. If you’re at all interested in this jacket, snag it. There will not be a better price.

Oooh! And I just noticed that my cap toe slingbacks have also been restocked at Express and are marked down to just $30. These are great little shoes. Not high quality, but great for the price.

sling-back heels
My cap toe slingbacks are restocked, available in three color combos and just $30.

In My Closet and Now On Sale

Thanks so much for dropping in for the scoop on the Labor Day weekend sales. I hope you have a great weekend. I may or may not have a new post up Monday, depending on how the weekend goes. I have company coming in starting Sunday. And I want to work ahead a little to prepare for next week.

But I hope you have a lovely weekend. You can check in here again if you decide to do any shopping through the weekend. I’ll be updating this post as the weekend progresses. I’ll probably add some shopping widgets under a few of those store listings above.

Blessed for My Day

Some days work is such a grind. Even when you do something you love like I do, work takes a toll. And of course, there’s not just our chosen profession to consider. We also have to work at keeping our homes, cars, yards and bodies maintained. And then there’s volunteer work we want to offer up to our communities, country or church.

That’s why it’s so important to keep work in the right perspective. When I remember that work was originally meant to be a blessing, I can embrace it with new vigor. And when I submit my work to the Lord and ask Him to infuse it with His anointing, I can enjoy it more. Let’s take some time this weekend to refocus our thoughts on work. And let’s ask God to give us the energy and passion for our work that will help us do it well.

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. ~ Genesis 2:15

xoxo, Kay

  74. I am a Registered Dietitian. God provided jobs as a consultant so I could work and also be available to homeschool our children. Now a grandmother and loving that life!

  75. I retired in July 2019 after about 36 years as a librarian. I worked mostly in academic libraries, and was a library director and professor in a library science program for the last 18 years. I love this blog! It has helped me transition to a retirement wardrobe that is not just sweats, leggings, and oversized t-shirts. I’m still working on cleaning out my closet of all the work clothes that I like, but no longer need.

  76. Retired hospice social worker for 32 years. Lots of goodbyes over the years.
This topic really shows we women can do anything!

  77. For 39 years my husband and I have owned & operated radio stations, my job being the chief financial officer. Prior to that I was a medical surgical nurse…both careers very rewarding! I finally talked him into retiring the end of 2021! Yay!

  78. After years of home schooling our four children from kindergarten through high school I started worked for the hospital. I am currently a patient services specialist working from home. Miss the kiddos and teaching.

  79. I worked in telecommunications for 3O years, the last 20 as an attorney where I drafted and negotiated contracts. I took early retirement, took up line dancing and now I teach it and perform with various groups of dancers throughout the east coast. I always loved dancing but never had time for it, I truly think God planned this “second” life for me.

  80. Hi there! I’m a 56-year-old working full-time as an accountant for a local architectural millwork company in Nashville TN. I graduated w/ an accounting degree and have worked in the field all my adult life. I tried the public accounting route but knew then (as a young woman) that I wanted to work in smaller companies. I’ve been here 15 years and love it every day! When and if I retire is the question. I may not for at least a decade. Love your blog

  81. I am part of Elsie Mae on Market, a Christmas decor store. Being a wife and mom is what I consider my main life work. I enjoyed being a paraprofessional at a school for 17 years.
