Happy Friday! I recently started by up this How I Really Dressed for My Day series after taking a little break from it at the end of summer. At that point I was posting the same ol’ thing over and over and summer wound down. But as fall is cranking into gear I’m wearing new outfits, and I’m eager to share this early fall looks with you. Let’s see how I really dressed for my days this week.

How I Really Dressed for My Day

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

We’re starting with Sunday because last Saturday we shot videos and I just wore “video outfits” throughout the day. Sunday I wanted to wear a black dress for some reason. I just got a bee in my bonnet about it! But I had worn my Everlane black dress recently, so I decided it would be a good day to actually wear the Italian luxe sheath dress I’ve had for a while now.

First I put on the black sheath dress with my nude pumps. I even tried on the Italian luxe blazer to see how it looked, but I knew it was too warm to wear it.

I styled this sheath dress 8 ways in this video.

But since I was attending our church’s less formal worship service I opted for my leopard print pumps (similar) instead. I considered wearing my denim jacket over the dress, but decided I didn’t need it. As it turned out, I wished I’d carried it since the air conditioned room was quite chilly.

We had a string of hot humid days before fall arrived on Wednesday. So styled my hair with its natural wave using my hair dryer’s diffuser attachment. For more information about how I style my hair this way, watch this video.

What I Wore Monday

Monday I needed to crank out the work, so I wore some Chico’s Zenergy cropped pants similar to these. Mine are from last year, so I don’t think these are the exact same ones. But I do love Chico’s Zenergy line for athleisure. These are lightweight and so comfortable, great for travel.

My L.L.Bean Pima cotton white v-neck tee arrived that morning, so I slipped it on to give it a whirl. Wow! I was so impressed that I kept it on to see how it wore through the day. I love this tee. I had been looking for a white tee with a little more thickness to wear with dressier looks. I love a simple white tee under a black or camel blazer for an elevated casual look. But sometimes you just don’t want a thin, ultra casual t-shirt for such looks. I had a feeling this L.L.Bean tee would fit the bill and it definitely does. My only complaint is that I actually wish the neckline dropped a little lower. I’m all for modesty, but I think it would be a tad more flattering if the V were deeper. Otherwise, perfection! And it runs true to size.

What I Wore Monday
similar Zenergy pants // white v-neck tee // ReNew sandals // gunmetal loafers sold out (in dark rum brown leather) // similar earrings

I wore my black Everlane ReNew sandals with this simple pairing until my Talbots gunmetal loafers arrived at the door. Once I slipped them on for size I didn’t want to take them off. These shoes are quite comfortable and I absolutely love the gunmetal tone. Unfortunately they sold out. Wa domp domp! I’m so sorry. Let’s keep our eyes on things at Talbots and see if they return. Meanwhile these dark rum brown leather loafers are the same style and still in stock.

What I Wore Tuesday

Tuesday I was a little tired, so after my workout I just gave myself a little grace and didn’t bother with the makeup. Our skin needs a day off every now and again, right? 😉 I shared this outfit in yesterday’s Favorites post, so I won’t go into a lot of detail. And there’s not much detail to go into!

Loft Pants (1)
Loft Pull On Straight Pants in Plaid Ponte // casual twist tee (50% off) // sandals

I will pause to once again sing the praises of these Pull On Straight Pants, however. They are so comfortable and really neat looking. Unfortunately they’re about sold out. However, they also have the same pants in houndstooth and in marled charcoal grey. And today Loft is having a Cyber sale with FREE SHIPPING and 50% off your order with code CYBER. This is the day to hop on these pants!

How I Dressed Wednesday

Ryan + Roan Nora V-Neck Pullover (use code SEPTEMBER for 15% off) // Everyday Relaxed Jeans (size down) // similar sneakers // Kendra Scott Zorte Split Hoop Earrings

I generally perk up around Wednesday when the bulk of my work for the week is done. (However this week I’m still working hard with some looming deadlines!) Anyhow, being the first day of fall and all, I decided to wear my Talbots relaxed everyday jeans and my lightweight v-neck berry colored pullover. The weather had cooled, but even if it hadn’t this lightweight top would have been comfortable. Use code SEPTEMBER for 15% off your order at Evereve just through this month.

What Happened Thursday?

Thursday was one of those days where I couldn’t decide on what to wear. Ever have those days? I knew I wanted to wear my gunmetal loafers (sold out) and I kind of wanted to wear my slate Everlane dream pants that had arrived the day before. But I struggled a bit creating an outfit that felt weather appropriate (still not hot, but not cold either) and cohesive.

At first I tried the dream pants with my L.L.Bean tee, but I didn’t really care for the look without a topper of some sort. I added my v-neck cashmere cardigan, but that felt too warm. However, this outfit is definitely a go for later in the fall.

What I Wore Thursday (7)
v-neck cashmere cardigan // dream pants // L.L.Bean tee // jewelry and shoes no longer available

These dream pants come in five shades, including the black I showed in yesterday’s Favorites post. They are so comfortable and I think they look pretty sharp, too. They’re fairly thick, so I think I can wear them into the winter with a little experimentation with footwear.

But then I switched into my slightly cropped L.L. Bean crewneck tee. This is one of my favorite t-shirts despite the crew neckline. I wish they made this exact t-shirt in a v-neck. The fabric is so soft and smooth and polished looking. Anyhow, I really like the length of this tee on my even proportions because I don’t have to tuck it in at all.

What I Wore Thursday 2 (3)
dream pants // L.L.Bean tee // jewelry and shoes no longer available // watch (Infinity in White Dial – Silver-Gold 5-Link)

And this is what I wore to work from home…for a couple of hours. Then I suddenly remembered that I had this cotton-merino polo sweater packed away somewhere. So I went in hot pursuit of it and when I found it I changed into it. I purchased this sweater almost two years ago, but they still have it in limited sizes and colors. It’s the perfect length for not tucking in and the polo neckline is really trending this year.

cotton-merino polo sweater // dream pants // jewelry and shoes no longer available // watch (Infinity in White Dial – Silver-Gold 5-Link)

And that’s what I wore rest of the day…until late afternoon. We had been invited to a small dinner party at the home of some sweet church members. So I decided to change clothes. I think what I was wearing would have been perfectly fine, but I had also received my black L.L.Bean dress the previous day and I wanted to give it a swing.

What I Wore Thursday Night

The black dress was fully stocked just last week. Ugh. Well, I think they went on sale and sold out fast. You can find similar dresses on sale here, but they don’t seem to have the black one.

Thanks so much for stopping in today. I’m glad I finally have some more fall like weather so I should be able to show fall outfits on these HIRDFMD posts from here on out. I try to wear things that are still available, but it looks like a struck out a few times this week. Ah well, this is real life after all.

Have a great day, dear friend!

Blessed for My Day

Do you ever feel like the Lord has surely forgotten you? Like He seems to notice other people and their dilemmas and heartaches but He is slow responding to yours? I think any time we grow weary from a struggle we are prone to feel forgotten, overlooked.

But be assured that your God has not overlooked you. In fact, you are precious to Him. Wait for Him. He is surely at work on your behalf and soon you will see evidence of that fact. While you wait, draw close to Him. Seek Him, spending time in His Word and pour out your heart to Him in prayer. Through that time with Him you will grow in strength and be able to persevere. Trust that He is good and is indeed working all things together for your good.

Why do you say, O Jacob,
    and speak, O Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
    and my right is disregarded by my God”?
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint. ~ Isaiah 40:27-31

  1. All great looks; thanks for bringing this weekly post back (day of the week doesn’t matter). Do I NEED another top? No, but do I WANT the berry pullover? Absolutely! Have a good weekend

  2. The neckline of the black luxe dress is so nice. I have always been impressed with the quality and thickness of the tees I have ordered from Lands End and LLBean. Since my sacroiliac can’t tolerate regular waistbands on a regular basis, I am definitely going to check out the pull on pants from Loft. And it will be nice to have an option other than knit or sweat pants to wear. I wish you an awesome day!

  3. Who in all that’s unreasonable wears an XS? You have to wait to be notified on that beautiful berry top. I’ve heard it’s too thin but I’m just drawn to the distressed collar, cuffs and hem. It’s unique. That swing black dress is fabulous. I like it better than the sheath. I have sheath envy though. I couldn’t wear it. You rock it!

    1. Hahaha! Too many funnies. The berry top is thinner than I’d expected but I like it that way. And it’s not see-through at all. Good luck!

  4. You look soooooo pretty in your Sunday Black dress Kay💗. You know I Love your hair curly🥰. Very becoming on you!

    Thank you for all you do Kay.

    Blessings,

  5. Love your weekly review! The Loft pull on pants were so comfortable and stylish, I ordered the houndstooth as well. I must say they do not fit the same as the plaid so I will be exchanging the medium for a large. Also love the soft Henley sweater they show with the houndstooth but size DOWN on that sweater. Thanks for all of the outfits you are helping me to find and helping to refresh my fall closet! And love Isaiah 40! Thx for reminding us.

  6. Hello Kay,
    I’m a new fan. I look forward to your posts. I signed up and do get your posting however the website still asks me to sign up when I visit the site. Can you tell me how to eliminate this? Also, I did not get the e-book (I think that is what you called it) when I did signed up. Will you forward it to me. (gonatolu@gmail.com) Last, you often speak about knowing your body portion and dressing them. I find that fascinating, however, I can’t find it on the website. Will you send the link to it? I would love to get familiar with that as a secret weapon.

    I am currently focusing on building outfits as you suggest. I love that tip versus buying pieces of clothing. I love going shopping in my closet to do this and of course, buying a few new items.

    Thank Kay.

    Gwen

    1. Hi Gwen. You should have received a welcome email with a link for the e-book. I don’t know if I have any way to send it to you. So check your email and spam for that welcome email. And the password for the Subscriber Freebies is always at the bottom of my emails. Finally, look under Fashion in the top menu and then click on Dressed for My Day My Way. That’s where you’ll find the posts on body shape and proportions.

  7. Thank you for the comment stating the white LLBean v-neck is high. Since going through a difficult bi-lateral mastectomy two years ago my wardrobe options have drastically changed and I’ve about given up on all V-necks. If this one is really not so low I may give it a try. I’m grateful to have beaten the aggressive cancer (for now), and in the scheme of life, high necklines are really just fine.
