Hello ladies! It seems like I’ve been talking about fitness a lot lately. Well, I’m living it, too. I’m really trying to make time every day for at least a walk around the neighborhood. And of course, I’m trying to get those FASTer Way to Fat Loss cardio and weight training workouts in, too. That’s a lot of sweating! Ha! While some may not care what they work out in, I do prefer to look and feel cute while I’m walking, sprinting, lifting and stretching. And because I work out (and sweat!) a lot, I generally need to replace my activewear at least every two years. Is it time for you to have a fall workout clothing refresh, too?
When I buy activewear, I look for pieces that are sturdy and well-made. But I also want moisture wicking qualities, breathability, softness and a good fit. Honestly, it can be difficult to find activewear that feels good on and also fits all of those criteria. I like my tights or leggings to fit well, but not tight. I don’t want them gaping at the crotch or sagging down with wear. And I want my tops to fit closet to the body, but I don’t want them to feel binding or tight.
I don’t ask for much, huh?
I’ve discovered that one of the best ways for me to find good quality activewear that also fits well and feels good is to try it out through Nordstrom’s Trunk Club. You can get a large box of expertly selected activewear sent to your home so that you can try it on there. I even wear the pieces around the house a bit to test for wearability. I purchased these Zella Live In High Waist Leggings and the Sweaty Betty Fast Track Jacket through Trunk Club about a month ago. Because I had referred some friends, I had a couple hundred dollars in credits to spend toward my purchase. You can do the same thing!
If you try Trunk Club through my link, YOU will get a $50 credit toward your purchases, too.
My Zella Live In High Waist Leggings really fit the bill. They wear well and look good. These full length High Waist Leggings feature moisture wicking fabric and a no-slip waistband. I do almost always size up in exercise leggings and shorts. These are a size Large and I like the fit.
You’ll find other colors, patterns and lengths of the Zella Live In High Waist Leggings HERE. And many of those are on sale.
I loved the way this Sweaty Betty Fast Track Jacket fits slim to the hips and then has a blousy overjacket. It also has a retractable hood, a front zip closure, side zip pockets, knit internal cuffs to protect from chill and thumbholes. It’s pricey, but if you walk or run in the elements you know the importance of good outerwear. It can make or break a workout. I’m wearing a medium in the Sweaty Betty Fast Track Jacket.
Another brand I like to shop for activewear is Athleta. Again, this is not cheap stuff. But I watch for the rare sales, use a Gap brand credit card to accumulate points and only buy a few pieces each year. While I love their joggers and tights, Athleta’s tops and sports bras are what keep me coming back over and over.
I’m done trying on sports bras I can’t even get off in the fitting room. Ha! Talk about a panicky feeling. But the sports bras at Athleta are constructed to fit a woman’s body and they go on and off fairly easily.
My top is the Renew Racerback Tank and I’m wearing the color dragonfruit pink. Mine is a size medium and fits well. It’s so soft. And it features a seamless design (sooo comfortable), odor proof yarns, moisture wicking qualities, UPF 50+ protection, breathability and anti microbial protection. Wowsa!
I purchased my Adidas Edge Lux 4 running shoes in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. They’re sold out, but they have the same pair in grey at Nordstrom Rack for the same price I paid. These are great lightweight shoes. I mostly walk these days, but I do sprints about once a week, and these Adidas Edge Lux 4 running shoes work well for me.
If you’re planning a workout clothing refresh, don’t forget your shoes! Be sure to replace running shoes every 300-500 miles, depending on the surface on which you run and the quality of your shoes. Whenever I start noticing that I have a few more aches and pains than usual, it’s often because I’ve worn my shoes too long. It’s also a good idea to have different but equally comfortable pairs of running shoes and to alternate wearing them.
I’ve filled the shopping widget below with these and more options from my favorite brands for your workout clothing refresh. You can always find a lot of great activewear at Nordstrom Rack that has been discounted. Thanks so much for dropping in today.

Blessed for My Day
There is a way that seems right to us, but it often leads to destruction. But God is not playing some kind of cruel game with us in which we must guess the path to take. He has actually clearly marked the road that leads to blessing and rest for our souls.
We find our way to rest and blessing when we choose to obey the Word of the Lord. Still feel stumped about which way to go in a particular matter? Take one step of simple obedience after another. Those steps of obedience will string together to put you on the right path. You may have heard it said that we don’t need to worry about what we don’t understand in God’s Word; we just need to obey what is clearly understood. That’s not to say we shouldn’t seek to understand more, and our ignorance doesn’t let us off the hook. But simply choosing to obey the clear and simple instructions in the Bible is a trustworthy starting place.
Thus says the Lord:
“Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ ~ Jeremiah 6:16
My body looks best in straight leg exercise pants and capris, but they are hard to find. Anyone know stores or brands that carry them? I recently ordered a pair from Baleaf on Amazon and like them, but would appreciate other suggestions.
Duluth Trading carries straight leg active wear under the NoGA brand. I get the bootcut NoGA slacks & hove them.
Oops should say I love (not hove) them! 😊
Hi Kay
I really love seeing what you choose to wear. They always seem to be what is wear too. Inspiration for clothes to wear and advice on feeling good. Good for us girls. Thank you Kay.
Stephanie
I thought I was the only one that gets trapped in a sports bra. I love the navy and pink together. Actually this pink would look good with all my winter colors. I like straight leg better than tight too but they are hard to find. I’m a modest old soul.😊
I absolutely live in those black high waisted Zella leggings all winter, both for working out and with a long sweater or tunic for daily at home wear. After dozens of washings (hang dry) they still look brand new … totally worth the money. Because in my recent retirement I’ve taken up trail walking, I love good, stylish activewear. The Sweaty Betty styles always appeal, and I’d be glad to spend my money on them. However, a size xxl in the brand is a size 14! I don’t mean to be political (any company has to decide what works for their profit), but I think it perpetuates the myth that larger women don’t want to be active and stylish. Retailers like Eddie Bauer and Athleta (and Zella to a lesser extent) actually show real women size models in their clothes, and I bet it helps sales!
These workout clothes look nice, but personally, I can find well-made, comfortable, moisture wicking athletic garments at much lower prices at Kohl’s, Marshall’s and other similar stores. I don’t see the point in buying expensive brand name clothing to exercise and sweat in! You can also find great leggings and things on Amazon! I prefer to save my money for clothing I’m going to wear out when I am “dressed”. Shoes, of course, are another thing although. Everyone needs athletic shoes that fit their feet and provide proper support. The brand you wear depends upon your feet! Mine are very narrow so I try on lots of pairs until I find one that fits well. I replace my shoes much more often than I do workout clothes.
You look great in this gear, Kay, but speaking personally, I don’t need anything special to exercise in, apart from a good pair of shoes! I just make sure that my clothes are comfortable, and don’t get in the way. Luckily for me, ‘activewear’ is not even a ‘want’, let alone a need.
This is about how you store your jewelry. I don’t know where or what to purchase for my earrings bracelets and necklaces. Do you have some ideas. I have purchased several of your suggestions but they come in boxes and bags. Then I don’t know what they are as they are hidden from view. Any advice would be welcome.
Hello Kay, I use a jewelry box like this one https://rstyle.me/+TnTMHldAL2wRxcmne_KmZw but you could also use something smaller like this https://rstyle.me/+4ahRG6NOtl285EHrgbaZ5Q . The main thing you want is a jewelry box that is lined with a similar velvet fabric interior that will help keep jewelry from tarnishing.
Thank you so much. I’ll get it ordered today! I want to be more organized and this will definitely help. Kay Hejl
