Hello! And welcome to Dressed for My Day! First I want to express my deepest gratitude for all the well wishes and prayers and sweet comments you ladies shared with me yesterday in regard to my Mohs surgery. It went well and the surgeon felt good about everything. My head did hurt a good bit when I got home, thus I’m probably going to be a little late with my posts for the rest of the week. Once I get behind in a week, it’s hard to get back on top of things. Speaking of being behind, today I’m sharing my October favorites. Ha! Oh yes, and I’ve got YOUR favorites, too.
This post contains affiliate links. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links.
Each month I like to look back and consider the products, fashions and, sometimes, services I used and especially loved that month. This helps me to stay on track in building my personal wardrobe and creating my signature style. You might want to do the same!
But I also like to share with you the top products sold here at Dressed for My Day. These are the things my readers and YouTube viewers are clicking through the most frequently and subsequently making purchases. Of course I learn a lot from these analytics, but I think you might find them interesting, too. Let’s get going!
My October 2021 Favorites
First up, my favorites. This month I could have gone on and on! Now that we’re finally having some fall weather, I’ve had the opportunity to wear some real autumn clothing. Also, as we’re getting closer to Christmas and I’ve been building my Christmas Gift Guides (check them out here!), I’ve been experimenting with a few of those.
Dark Wash Straight Leg Jeans
I’d already own the lighter wash in these straight leg jeans from Talbots. But when I couldn’t find what I was looking for in terms of dark wash elsewhere, I decided to order the Dark Wash Straight Leg Jeans from Talbots, too. I did accidentally take the tags off the curvy fit jeans when I intended to keep the regular fit, but oh well. But I would say they run true to size regardless.
I find these to be classic straight leg jeans and I love the high waist (but not too high!). As you can see, I did cut about an inch off at the bottom for a raw edge. I am 5’8″ and have even proportions, so I think they just run long. The jeans also come in curvy fit, Plus Sizes, Plus Size curvy fit and petite sizes. So that’s pretty cool!
Long Quilted Coat
I’ve worn this Long Quilted coat more than I’ve shown it on the blog. It’s such a nice weight for chilly days. And I can continue to layer on warmth underneath this lightweight coat into the winter. Quilted coats and jackets are really trending this year. This one also comes in navy and spice.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Kissable Lip Shine in Rebellious Rose
I’ve been sharing the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Rebellious Rose for a while now. And a lot of you have purchased it, too. And you’ve told me how much you also love it. But this month I’ve been layering on the color and the shine with the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Kissable Lip Shine in Rebellious Rose.
I love the way this gloss amplifies this beautiful neutral rose shade while also giving my lips a bit more shine and gloss. It’s not tacky or sticky and wears well, too.
L’Oreal Midnight Serum
In case you ever wonder if I really use the products I share in sponsored posts and videos, yes. Yes, I absolutely do. I will never even accept a sponsored contract from a brand I don’t love and feel comfortable with. I actually turn down about 10 times as many as I accept. And any time I am offered a contract for a product I haven’t used, I insist on trying it out adequately before signing on the dotted line.
Not only did I try the L’Oreal Midnight Serum for a month before I shared it with you here at the blog and in my sponsored YouTube video, but I’ve continued to use it ever since. Granted, I may try something else when this runs out. The way I see it, that’s part of my job here. But I am absolutely loving the results I’m getting with this reasonably priced and readily accessible serum.
Tish Pebble Leather Chelsea Boot
Strangely enough I haven’t even shown the Tish Pebble Leather Chelsea Boot on the blog. But I’m wearing it in the video that I published this week. I have them in black and in cognac, and they’re both in the video. These have quickly become my favorite booties for fall and winter because they’re extremely comfortable, easy to get on and off, very versatile and perfect for wearing under the trending straight leg jeans.
Recently a reader asked me to recommend more boots that come in wide widths. I’m sorry to say that these are only available in medium width. I’ll definitely try to find more boots available in both narrow and wide widths in the future. But I can heartily recommend these in the medium width for now, and today they are Buy One Get One 50% off.
the Always Pan
While this is an affiliate link, I was not gifted my Always Pan. After hearing other influencers rave about them, I decided to buy one this month. And sure enough I LOVE my Always Pan.
This heavy duty, non-stick pan is such a great size and it’s deeper than many non-stick pans I passed over for it. It’s the perfect size for cooking for two, but I can cook for four in it, too. (We love leftovers!) I love the fitted lid, the spoon rest notch, the wooden spoon/spatula that comes with it, the stainless steel steaming basket and the handle on the both ends. I’ve also purchased an Always Pan for Abigail for Christmas.
I only wish I’d purchased the Home Cook Duo instead. It includes the Perfect Pot. You get the two pieces for 20% off the regular price of the combo. And I hear that the Perfect Pot, which can go in the oven, too, is even more impressive and conducive to cooking for a family.
Pebbled Leather Jean Belt
A good, sharp belt can really elevate a look. And I’m loving the effect I’m getting with this Pebbled Leather Jean Belt from Evereve.
I think the double buckle and pebbled leather make this belt look more expensive than it is. I still hate paying for belts, but when you consider how often you can wear this accessory, it’s really not a bad price, especially since it is leather. I’m wearing a size S/M.
Urbanite Top 2.0
I originally wore the Urbanite Top 2.0 in this video where I shared a fall capsule wardrobe perfect for travel. Sure enough I wore this top on our early October trip to Georgia. It was perfect with my Talbots travel pants (sadly, completely sold out).
But I really liked it styled with leggings in this video. I’m wearing the Urbanite Top in walnut brown, which I love. But it also comes in bright white and a pretty dark sky violet. The Featherweight Stretch™ fabric is silky sleek and light as air, plus it’s breathable and fast drying. It also offers you sun protection with a UPF 50+ rating. So, while it’s pricey, I think this button up shirt would be a necessity for traveling abroad or for extensive domestic trips.
The Wish Book Christmas by Lynn Austin
I was invited to be on the launch team for The Wish Book Christmas by Lynn Austin. She’s one of my absolute favorite Christian fiction authors, and this novella did not disappoint. In fact, I was sad when I turned the last page. So sad that I was tempted to start it over again. And I may yet!
The Wish Book Christmas is a short novella that follows the main characters from Austin’s previous book, If I Were You, which is situated in England during World War II. The Christmas novella is the story of these two young women and their small sons sharing Christmas in the United States. I think you could read the Christmas novella without reading If I Were You first, but why would you want to???? They’re both wonderful books. The only reason I’m not reading The Wish Book Christmas a second time right now is because I’m captivated by Austin’s most recent full length novel, Chasing Shadows, which I somehow missed during the summer.
The Wish Book Christmas is a hardbound book with a sweet retro cover, making it a lovely book to have on your coffee table during the holidays. Perfect with a cup of hot Earl Grey and tea biscuits!
Fleece-Cuff Lined Straight Leg Pants
Honestly, I haven’t even worn these Fleece-Cuff Lined Straight Leg Pants yet. But I don’t have to wear them to know I absolutely love them. You see, I have these same pants in black and navy from the past two years, and they are one of my favorite winter pants. When they came out in this beautiful, elegant ivory this year, I jumped on them.
In the photo above you can see how I styled my black pair of Fleece-Cuff Lined Straight Leg Pants last year for a snow day. (That’s a fun post, by the way. James has some great photography in it!) They have the black Fleece-Cuff Lined Straight Leg Pants again this year, this time with a fun plaid cuff (I wear mine rolled down). And I can tell you that they fit the same this year as last year. For me they are true to size. But some readers, including my mother, told me they ran large in the petite sizes. I cannot wait to wear these ivory Fleece-Cuff Lined Straight Leg Pants. And I just didn’t want you to miss out on them if you’re interested, especially in this great ivory. Remember, Talbots is having a Buy One Get One 50% off deal right now.
Zella High Waist Leggings
I have no shortage of black exercise leggings. But I find myself wearing these Zella High Waist Leggings most frequently these days. I really like the full length on these leggings, as well as the great fit. I do have them in large, so you might want to size up for a really comfy fit.
While I reserve these Zella High Waist Leggings for exercise and lounging around the house, they are perfectly suitable for wearing out and about, too. At least with the right top. Come to think of it, I think these are the leggings I wore with that Urbanite Top 2.0 in this video. So yeah, these are great for wearing out. And I think the price is really great for the quality.
So that’s a wrap on My October Favorites. Now let’s check out yours!
Your October 2021 Favorites
From my analytics I can tell how many orders were placed through each link. But the truth is you could have clicked through one item and purchased something completely different. However, by the time you get up into the numbers that some of these items saw, I’m pretty sure they corelate fairly well to true sales. I say all that to say that I can’t know for sure that these were the top sellers in the Dressed for My Day community, but my hunch is these are pretty accurate.
#5 – Striped Pullover Sweater
Ooh! I love this Striped Pullover Sweater from Talbots, too. And because it’s not wool or cashmere, I bet a lot of you love it, too. Well, I know somebody out there does, because A LOT of women purchased them.
This fun 57% Cotton, 28% Acrylic, 15% Polyester Pullover Sweater is still available in most sizes, including petites, plus and plus petites. And it’s part of Talbots’ Buy One Get One 50% off deal. I’m wearing a TTS medium.
#4 – Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette
The Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette is one of my favorite things, too. Always! I’ve been wearing this eyeshadow for about a year or so now. But when Tarte ran a great deal on it during October I think a lot of my Instagram followers saw me mention it. I shared another special from Tarte just this week in my Instagram stories. So be sure to stick with me in Instagram.
I love a good matte eyeshadow. And evidently you ladies do, too. The Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette goes on beautifully, is nicely pigmented, blends well and stays put throughout the day. It wears very well.
#3 – Cinched Tee
I haven’t checked the dates this tee was popular, but I have a feeling they sold mostly from this video on Style Tips to Hide Your Tummy. I mentioned there that this cinched tee is great for leaving untucked and that the cinching helps camouflage the tummy somewhat. The tee also comes in black.
The cinched tee is 40% off today with code LAYERUP.
#2 – Cap Sleeve V-neck Sweater Vest
The number two top seller for October is another Loft find. A lot of my YouTube viewers and blog readers purchased the Cap Sleeve V-neck Sweater Vest. I shared the slate grey one in this video. Of course, I’ve learned that as much as some of my readers and viewers love the trending sweater vests, others don’t care for them. But I think this is one of those trends we’ll be seeing for at least a couple of years or more. They’re fun to wear, especially over a pretty shirt.
The Cap Sleeve V-neck Sweater Vest is still available in this coastal grey, as well as a golden yellow and white. You’ll get 40% off with code LAYERUP, today only.
#1 – L’Oreal Midnight Serum
Yep. It happens. Your number one favorite for October is also one of mine. I probably should find out what yours are before I make my list so I wouldn’t duplicate. Then again, what does it hurt? We’re both loving this L’Oreal Midnight Serum.
I don’t guess I need to explain why we both love this serum again. It’s a great price, it goes on beautifully and I’m getting some tangible results. What about you?
Thanks so much for joining me for today’s review of our October 2021 Favorites. Hopefully next week I’ll get back to posting daily outfits on Fridays. And tomorrow watch for another Christmas Gift Guide! Have a great Friday!

Blessed for My Day
Over time and with familiarity, it becomes tempting to take our friends for granted. We let down our guard in their presence and show our true colors. Of course, it’s a good thing to have such friends – ones with whom you do not worry about losing their friendship. It’s good to know that someone calls you friend even when they’ve gotten to know you, warts and all.
But even the Bible warns us not to treat our friendships carelessly. These are relationships worth handling with care. Maybe today is a good day to really listen to a friend instead of talking so much. Or maybe it’s a good day to write her a card to say thank you for all the kindnesses she’s shown you. How can you show you “whatever may come” friend that you value her today?
One who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be considered a curse to him. ~ Proverbs 27:14
Hi Kay. Glad your surgery went well. My husband had Moh’s surgery on his nose about a year ago and it healed nicely. I can’t even tell he had it. Praying for a speedy recovery for you. Have a great weekend.
Great October Favs Kay!! These are always good to see and know what All like!
So happy you are feeling some better…..sleep is the best healer😉
Blessings,
I hope that you are healing well and feeling better each day. I really like that pan!!!! I also like you in brighter colors. Have a blessed day and take care of yourself. No need to apologize about the blog being late. If you miss a day I will miss you but your health comes first.
Hello Kay, I’m seriously considering buying the Talbot’s quilted coat. What size did you buy? I’m 5’2″ and rather petite so I am curious if you bought a medium or a small. Thank you so much! I’m hoping you’re feeling much better each day.
Hi Carolyn. I often go with small coats and jackets at Talbots but I do have a medium in this one. I wanted to leave plenty of room underneath for layers. Hope that helps.
So many great Christmas gift possibilities! I know the books will be on my personal list. Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Take care of yourself and thank you so much for all you do for us, Kay❤
I just read a sweet series of books on my Kindle (the Vicarage Series by Kate Hewit) and the vicar’s wife Ruth had me picturing you. She’s such a sweet lady and such a good mom!
Thanks, Kay, for being our fashion, style, beauty and soul guide. You are like a favourite girlfriend who we can trust. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Those favorites were exactly my favorites too. The cinched sweater and the vest especially.
I am always inspired by what you show us. I bought a quilted jacket this year. It feels light weight but warm. I like that. I have no use for a coat but I love yours.
I have learned that you can’t wait for others to keep in touch and be there if you don’t keep cultivating that friendship. Someone hasn’t called you lately? Call them. Don’t lose touch.
Hi Kay! I know that you are glad to have the MOHS surgery behind you. I pray that the pain has subsided and that the scar will not even be noticeable. If it bothers you there are OTC ointments that will help rid of the scar. I bought the serum after you shared it with us, then finally also bought the L’Oreal night cream to see if it will help rid of the lines on the bridge of my nose. I have the cap sleeve sweater vest in the grey and I just ordered the cinched tee in black. I wish you a beautiful afternoon and weekend!
I’m glad your surgery went well and I hope your recovery goes smoothly too. I’ve had THREE Moh’s surgeries on my nose. Yes, my mother was right when she told me to get out of the sun!
I just discovered your blog and I’ve suggested it to many of my friends. It’s refreshing to find tasteful outfits and accessories that look good on women over 50.
I have a favor to ask. I live in Florida and we don’t often wear sweaters or heavy jackets. Could you include some warm weather outfits for those of us in the southern areas?
Thanks for your posts. I love them.
