While the holidays are still a few weeks away, it’s definitely time to start pulling together some fun festive looks for the memory-making days ahead. While I do hope we’re all able to get out and about more this year as we celebrate these meaningful days with friends and family, I know that most of us will have more casual events on our calendar than formal affairs. So I thought today I’d kick off our holiday looks parade with a couple of easy-going but festive outfits that will suit you for caroling with friends, baking cookies with the grands, shopping the Black Friday deals or taking in a holiday flick with your honey.

I found all of the fashions I’m sharing today at Nordstrom. You know they’re one of my favorite retailers for quality fashions that work easily into my modern classic wardrobe. Whether you’re shopping for you or your family, you’ll find all of the latest winter fashion trends and staples with Nordstrom Made’s many in-house brands, such as Nordstrom Signature, Halogen, Zella and Caslon . I find Nordstrom in-house brands to be both stylish and well-made, but also very affordable.

In fact, every Thanksgiving or Christmas for the past few years I’ve found a great holiday sweatshirt or t-shirt at Nordstrom. This year I found this darling JOY embellished sweatshirt. Unfortunately it’s only available in a few sizes at this point, but I love this Merry sweatshirt just as much. Ooh! And this Team Snow sweatshirt and Gratitude sweatshirt are darling, too! I’ve filled a shopping widget below with my findings.
Having a fun sweatshirt like these on hand is perfect for joining up with friends and family for some casual, holiday festivities. If needed, you could wear a long sleeve tee like this one or this one underneath. But I’m wearing my Nordstrom Moonlight Comfort Layer Tank under mine. Definitely size up in those.
I kept this holiday look very casual by wearing my Joy Sweatshirt with my black straight leg jeans (more economical options). And I kept the outfit sporty and youthful with my Caslon Hanley Water Resistant Lace-Up Booties and my Nordstrom hooded puffer jacket. Both of those come in some additional great colors, by the way. The booties fit true to size, but I probably could have sized down in the puffer jacket.
I kept my jewelry very simple, just wearing my favorite teardrop earrings in brushed gold.
Accessory-wise I carried my reversible faux leather tote with the black side showing and I wore my cashmere fingerless gloves. These are Nordstrom brand gloves I purchased a couple of years ago, so they’re no longer available. But they have these similar gloves in some lovely colors.
I thought this was a fun outfit to wear caroling, Black Friday shopping, hunting for the perfect Christmas tree or sitting beside a bonfire with family and friends. And of course all of these are items I can mix and match with other things in my wardrobe, too.
Speaking of mixing things up, next I created a slightly more elevated and colorful look with these same black jeans. Unlike the look above, nothing about this chic black and pink outfit screams holidays, but this snazzy combo is definitely worthy of a festive gathering with friends or family.
I have several Nordstrom brand cashmere sweaters, but all of them have been in neutrals. This year I decided to add some splashes of color to my outfits with some bright and bold choices. I love how this pink flash v-neck cashmere sweater adds a pop of joy to my otherwise black ensemble. But I’ve also recently purchased this same v-neck cashmere sweater in blue surf. And I purchased the turtleneck cashmere sweater in blue azurine and olive epsom. Such unusual and beautiful colors.
I find the Nordstrom Cashmere sweaters to run slightly large. I’m wearing a medium and that’s what I purchased in the turtlenecks, too. but I think I could have worn a small in both. They’re a good quality cashmere, but sometimes, especially in the lighter colors, a little sheer. But I often wear this close fitting tank under mine, especially as it gets colder.
I’ve collected some of my favorite Nordstrom Cashmere sweaters into a shopping widget for you below. You might enjoy the fact that they also have some holiday themed sweaters in the bunch. I love, love, love this navy and red Merry cashmere sweater. Really darling!
For this slightly elevated look I switched into my Chelsea boots (similar). If you’re looking for a good Chelsea boot to wear with your straight leg jeans this fall and winter, I can highly recommend these Caslon Miller Water Resistant Chelsea boots. I got them in just after we shot these photos, and I am so impressed. They feature a really soft pebbled water resistant leather upper and trending lug soles. They are so comfortable and fit true to size.
I also switched my reversible tote to the leopard print side. So fun! Did you notice that this easy-to-reverse faux leather tote also includes a small zip pouch that you can attach to the inside of the bag? I’ve had this bag for a couple of years now and I really enjoy using it frequently.
I completed this look with my Bernardo Puffer Vest, also purchased at Nordstrom. I love that Nordstrom does such a great job at price matching, so I know I’m getting the best price on the brands I love when I shop there. This sleek but cozy Puffer Vest comes with a very small pouch that you can compress this vest and pack it into. So it’s perfect for taking on your Thanksgiving and Christmas getaways.
This last outfit is one I would definitely wear on one of mine and my husband’s weekend outings, perhaps to visit a small town for their Christmas decorations. But I’d also easily wear this to dinner with friends or a gift exchange.
Of course I also love Nordstrom’s extensive loyalty program, the Nordy Club. The more you shop at Nordstrom the more rewards and services you earn, such as Nordy notes to spend in the store, early access to sales, beauty and style workshops (many of them virtual!), free alterations and more. Nordstrom always offers free shipping and returns, which is HUGE for this online shopper. And if you live near a Nordstrom, you can also take advantage of their BOPUS (buy online pick up in store) and ROTOS (reserve online try on in store) options.

What does it mean to “love the things in the world?” When the Apostle John warned the early believers not to love the world nor the things in the world he was encouraging them to draw a line in the sand. They were to set their affections, their priorities and their allegiance on God and the things of His kingdom rather than feeling tied to and drawn in by the things that held the hearts of those around them. They were, like the nation Israel of the Old Testament, to be set apart.
God calls us to the same sort of devotion today. And I’ve found that these allegiances sometimes run deeper than the naked eye can see. I have to ask myself, “Do I prefer to be comfortable or convicted by the daily reading of the Bible? Do I fear the opinions of people and mold my behavior to please them? Or do I present myself to God as a living sacrifice, fully obedient to Him alone?” What rules your life? The things of this world…or the precepts and principles laid out in God’s Word for those who are in His kingdom?
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. ~ 1 John 2:15-16
Great looks! I just ordered the gray boots you showcased in the first outfit. Thanks for all the hard work and effort you put into your posts every day.
Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know Nancy.
I usually don’t wear Sweatshirts or sweaters with sayings on them but this is cute on you. I did buy a sweater last year from Talbots with snowflakes on it that I think looks very festive. Whatever is your style to get in the Christmas mood. I liked the BFMD
Thanks so much for sharing, Sherry. I’m glad you enjoyed the post.
Love the looks. I do wish they had Christmas t-shirts instead of sweatshirts. We can’t rely on cool weather here. I know, cry me a river, but I do like to look festive! We get to eat holiday meals inside this year, I’m so excited it’s ridiculous!
Glad you like the looks. I can tell you that the sweatshirt is on the lighter side. 😉
I love holiday sweaters and the Merry Christmas one just speaks to me. Can’t buy it. Here’s why. There are friends who say, “ I know you like Christmas sweaters so I found this really cute one for you” which is a big angora cat with sparkle and a big red bow right in the middle of your body. So, I have a few I’m expected to wear every year. Bless them all!🎄🎶🙏🏻
Hahaha! I totally get that. Don’t ever mention that you like cookie jars. You’ll have a shelf full of them!
During my years as a teacher, I collected enough Christmas shirts to wear a different one each day of the week during the time between December 1 and Christmas break. It gave me a festive feeling every day! I love this JOY sweatshirt — apparently I’m not alone, because it is sold completely out!
Thanks for today’s BFMD. A good reminder that we as believers are, indeed, to be set apart and not lovers of this world.
I know. I’m so sorry about that. But I do love, love, love that grateful sweatshirt too.
Oh Kay, I really like both of the looks that you shared in this post! I enjoy festive tops that are more on the classic side of the spectrum, and the ones at Nordstrom are spot on. And I have to say that being a Nordy club member is one of the best moves I’ve made in the past few years.
Wonderful to hear. Thanks for dropping in Ginger. 🥰
Too many cute sweatshirts…I can’t decide which one I want!
Hahaha! I agree. It’s hard to choose! 🥰
Enjoyed your video about pants other than jeans. I love my jeans but feel (at my age) that I can’t wear them as often as I used to. I’d like to know where you got the red long sweater you wore with the joggers. It was such a beautiful subdued red. Thanks for being here for all of us and offering so many good alternatives to allow us to age gracefully!
Hi! Send me a comment under the video or through an email and I’ll gladly share a link to that sweater. 🥰
Loved the pink sweater on you! The color really made you radiant. The grey boots are so cute too! Great looks overall!!
Thanks Vicky. I appreciate your comments. 🥰
