How I Wore a Little Color!

Welcome to Dressed for My Day! Many Fridays I round up mirror selfies from the week to share How I Really Dressed for My Day for the past seven or so days. This week as I looked back over the photos I realized I wore more color than usual. I hope you’ll get a little style inspiration from my outfits. But in the end, I’m just a woman like you trying to put herself together the best she can.

How I Really Dressed for My Day Recently

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore Friday

Last Friday we got out and shot photos, so I ended up wearing one of the outfits from yesterday’s post to dinner that night. Of all the sweaters I showed in that post, I do think this soft blue v-neck cardigan is my favorite.

cotton blend cardigan // high waist slim ankle straight leg jeans (wearing size 30, TTS) (more economical jeans) // ivory crinkled patent bootie similar water resistant Chelsea booties and other similar lug sole Chelsea booties// faux leather classic tote (similar option) // necklace no longer available // Moonlight Comfort Layer Tank // split hoop earrings

Because this cotton blend cardigan is cropped and hits right at my true waist, it works well with these high waist slim ankle straight leg jeans to create optimal proportions. (The cotton blend cardigan covers the waist band of my jeans by at least an inch and a half.) If the sweater were longer, I’d probably stick with black booties or shoes with these black jeans. That’s something to keep in mind as you’re combining boots and jeans this winter. You can wear a contrasting color in your boots if you tuck your top or you wear a top like this one that sits high enough to create a long leg.

What I Wore Sunday

Saturday we shot videos, so I never really settled into one outfit. So we’ll move on to Sunday when I wore my other black jeans (no longer available) and this pretty blue v-neck cashmere sweater to church and lunch. My blue v-neck cashmere sweater is still available and it’s also 41% off.

I had worn this sweater when recording a video on Saturday and really liked the way I’d styled it with a belt and these black jeans. So I just duplicated the look for Sunday. I think giving a sweater a gentle front tuck and adding a belt is such a great way to elevate an outfit.

How I Dressed for My Day Monday

Monday my parents got into town for a visit, so I spent the morning working and tidying the house. They arrived in the mid afternoon and we simply visited and had dinner. I felt comfortable and pretty in my favorite straight leg jeans (different wash) and this Nordstrom brand cashmere sweater. Unfortunately they didn’t bring back this oatmeal color this year in this sweater. But they do still have some nice shades and it’s 41% off.

I wore my cashmere sweater over my J.Jill reversible tank. It’s a great tank for layering year round. And you can wear it with a scoop neck or a v-neck. Oh, and if you’re new here, I should mention that I created the raw edge on my jeans by cutting them off with my sewing shears. The regular misses size was too long for me, and I’m 5’8″. Talbots is offering 40% off your purchase right now.

By the way, if you noticed my nail polish is missing on one finger it’s because I messed up and washed the dishes without gloves. Hahaha! And then I just never got around to fixing it while my parents were here. Good grief! #badblogger

How I Dressed for Tuesday

Tuesday I shared my Talbots fleece lined pants on the blog and my mom put on her black ones. So I decided to follow suit and wear my black ones, too. Ha! She looked lovely in hers with a pretty soft turquoise turtleneck cashmere sweater. I wore mine with my green “olive epsom” cashmere turtleneck and added a black belt.

These black fleece lined pants are just so versatile. You can easily dress them up or down. I really loved the way the black leather belt and black patent leather loafers (similar) elevated the outfit. By the way, let me clarify that these pants are indeed fully lined. I’m sure the plaid fleece lining is only on the lower leg. But the entire pant is lined with a soft cotton fabric.

What I Wore Wednesday

I tried to work as little as possible while my parents were here, but I did have work to do. But we also managed to work a jigsaw puzzle, watch some Christmas movies, tour around our part of town and eat some good food. Wednesday I was comfortable in those same straight leg jeans I’d worn Monday with a pretty pink front seam sweater. This fun 73% acrylic, 24% polyester, and 3% spandex sweater is also available in a bright orange.

I love adding leopard print accessories to bright colored sweaters. I finished off the outfit with pretty, feminine jewelry. Oh, and I wore another one of those J.Jill reversible tanks under my sweater.

How I Dressed Thursday

Thursday morning we enjoyed a hearty breakfast of waffles and bacon and then visited a bit more before my parents started their journey home. After the left I just tied up some loose ends in my office and worked on this post. I pulled out my festive fair isle yoke sweater (similar) and topped my J.Crew straight leg jeans.

I sometimes wear this fair isle yoke sweater (similar) by itself, but I also like adding a simple, lightweight turtleneck underneath.

Thanks so much for dropping in today. I enjoyed sharing my daily looks with you. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve shown. There are some great sales out there right now, so most of the things that I wore that are still available are marked down. But I’ve also noticed that sizes are getting depleted.

Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

The Christmas season can be all about parties and baking and the giving of gifts or we can make it a more significant season than that. Let’s choose to make room for Christ in our celebrations. This is a good time to ask God to reveal more of Himself to you. As we pause to spend time reading the Bible, praying and reflecting on what He has done in our lives this past year, we will begin to see more of His character and ways.

God delights in showing us more about Himself. As we draw close to Him He will give us greater joy. And life will become clearer and sweeter. That’s where we’ll find the greatest joy this holiday season.

Show me your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.

Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. ~ Psalm 25:4-5

xoxo, Kay

  1. Lovely outfits!
I loved your post,” As we draw close to Him, He will give us greater joy. And life will become clearer and sweeter .”
His joy is not dependent on our circumstances. Thank You, Jesus.💕

  2. I too love the baby blue cardigan, but might be too light for me. If had been a darker shade I might have snatched it up. lol I purchased the bright blue v-neck cashmere and love the color. Just got it last week and have not wore it yet. Might have to today to the grocery store. As soon as I finish my cup of tea me and and get dressed my husband and I are heading out. We are in for a big snowstorm. 8-12 inches. Oh my! Oh maybe the red print fair-isle sweater I bought last year. Seems just right for a lot of snow. lol
Flying out next week for wedding plans with Abagail all ready. I am so happy for her. Have fun!
Spot on with the BFMD. We need to draw closer to God. Is what the season is all about. Jesus.

  3. I love the pink on you. I’ve just splurged on three new sweaters which I need like another hole in the head but there you are. I bought this love,y lilac color, red and a blue like the one you are wearing. I love the shoes and boots. That’s it! I’m going now to buy white boots for Christmas, I’ll repent later. 😁
    ❤️BFMD🙏🏻

  4. Hi Kay! I like all of the outfits that you wore over the past week. My two favorite colors on you from the week is the bright blue and hot pink! Todays BFMD is spot on. It’s so exciting that you and Abigail are already going to start working on the wedding. Do they have a date selected? I pray that God will keep you healthy and safe during your travels and time back in GA.

    1. Thanks Ginger. We’re having to find a venue because their church doesn’t really have a building to speak of. So venue availability will determine the date. But they’re shooting for May, which means we’ll be working fast! 🤪
