Happy week after Christmas! Is that a thing? Well, here at Dressed for My Day this is historically the time when I begin reflecting a little on the past year at the blog and preparing for the next. I like to post a series of “best of” and “top 20” posts reviewing what resonated most with both you and me during the past year. Today I’m sharing the 20 most popular blog posts of 2021.
Over the next couple of weeks I’ll probably (I always leave myself a little wiggle room!) share:
- My 20 Favorite Fashion & Beauty Purchases in 2021
- Top 20 DFMD Reader/Viewer Favorites of 2021 (top sellers at the blog and YouTube channel)
- My 20 Favorite Outfits of 2021
- Top 10 DFMD Videos of 2021
- My 20 Favorite Blog Posts of 2021
But today let’s get on with the 20 most popular blog posts here at Dressed for My Day. These are the blog posts I wrote and posted this year that have been the most popular. I actually have quite a few blog posts from previous years that continue to draw just as many pageviews as some of these posts. But today I’m just listing the 2021 blog posts that have been popular this year.
I’m sharing these in typical countdown format, from #20 to #1. Let’s go!
#20 – Tips for Coordinating Your Outfits Without Looking Matchy-Matchy
It’s no wonder this blog post made it into the top 20. It addresses one of the questions I’m asked most frequently. “How can I create great outfits that don’t look too matchy-matchy?” I think as we get older we fear looking like we’re trying too hard. And indeed, over matching can create that over-done look that dates us a bit. Did these five tips help you out?
#19 – My 2021 Christmas Gift Guide for Young Women
I am a little surprised that one of my Christmas gift guides made it into the top 20 list. By the way, I posted 225 posts this year. So these are the top 8% or so. Anyhow, My 2021 Christmas Gift Guide for Young Women came in at number 19.
I think this gift list made the top 20 because so many of us are shopping for young women in our lives. Abby put this list together, and she came up with some great gift ideas for young women.
#18 – Elevated Jeans Outfits with Exquisite Comfortable Shoes
I personally loved this post, so I’m glad to see that many of my readers did, too. I threw this one together in my office, so the photography wasn’t great, but I think readers enjoyed seeing multiple ways to style jeans for a casual office look.
#17 – Trending Fall Colors
I think by the time fall rolls around we’re all eager for some new colors in our wardrobe. Thus, Trending Fall Colors brought lots of new readers to the blog. I looked back over this post to see if I’ve been wearing the predicted trending colors. Sure enough, I’ve continued to steer clear of illuminating yellow, but I’ve consistently worn other hot hues. I’ve especially enjoyed wearing more rich browns this fall.
You might want to look back at Trending Fall Colors and see if your closet reflects the predictions, just for the fun of it.
#16 – What to Wear on a Cool Spring Day
I rarely had a “cool spring day” when I lived in Arizona, but upon moving to Ohio I discovered that most spring days are cool, if not plain out cold. Ha! I think we all get so eager for spring and warmth that we sometimes struggle with what to wear when it’s cold outside but we’re feeling all the warm feelings inside. So maybe that’s why What to Wear on a Cool Spring Day was so popular.
That post also featured one of the few pairs of skinny jeans I kept in my closet this fall and winter.
#15 – 5 Prompts for Putting Together Outfits from Your Closet
I thought this next post was a fun one. In 5 Prompts for Putting Together Outfits from Your Closet I shared how I generally begin my outfits. I took the time to think about how I started constructing outfits and shared my thoughts on the process.
This post included mostly spring outfits, but I suppose the 5 prompts would work for winter outfits, too. Maybe I’ll write a similar post with winter outfits. What do you think? Would that be helpful?
#14 – How I Really Dressed for My Day 05-21-21 – 06-06-21
I tried to write a How I Really Dressed for My Day post most every week, and I think I probably did produce one at least every other week. But this How I Really Dressed for My Day post in late May, early June was the only one to make the top 20.
I think the reason this particular How I Really Dressed for My Day post was so popular may have something to do with the fact that I’d just moved into our new home. I probably mentioned snapping the mirror selfies in my new office in my subscriber email.
Psst! Are you subscribed to my daily or weekly emails? I offer freebies and special bonuses to my subscribers. You can join the community here. It’s free!
#13 – What’s in My Bag & How I Switch Out My Handbags with Ease
I guess we’re all a little curious about what other women carry in the handbags. So it’s not much of a surprise to me that What’s in My Bag & How I Switch Out My Handbags with Ease ranked fairly high among 2021’s blog posts.
Blogger Fact: Some of my most popular posts may not have actually been the most popular with my committed and regular readers. Frequently posts “go viral” a few days or even weeks after I publish them as they gain momentum on search engines such as Google or Bing.
#12 – 2021 Spring & Summer Shoe Trends
One reason my spring blog posts are showing up in the top 20 so frequently is simply because they’ve had more time to amass readers. But I also think that posts at the beginning of seasons do well because we’re generally eager for the transition. Eager for some warmer weather, many readers tuned in to check out the 2021 Spring & Summer Shoe Trends…on February 26th!
#11 – Talbots August 2021 Collection Try-On Session
In past years, try-on session posts have always done well. But with the ongoing pandemic I’ve done fewer of them in the stores this year. I know many bloggers do them at home, but I just never seem to amass enough new things to try on at home to make it feel worth it. But maybe I’ll work on that for this next year because Talbots August 2021 Collection Try-On Session came in at number eleven on the top twenty list.
Of course, as you may have guessed, Talbots is also my top retailer here at Dressed for My Day. By that I mean that my readers shop more and purchase more at Talbots than any other retailer I feature. So that’s another reason why this post’s popularity doesn’t catch me by surprise at all.
Psst! Talbots is currently running their Winter Red Hanger Sale with an extra 40% off markdowns. Plus, if you have and use a Talbots credit card you’ll save an additional 5% on your purchases.
#10 – How You Absolutely CAN Wear Capri Pants this Summer
This one makes me chuckle a little because it’s such a hot topic – as in I felt a little like I was publishing a “hot potato” when I wrote it. Women tend to have very strong opinions about Capri pants. And truthfully, in How You Absolutely CAN Wear Capri Pants this Summer I actually advocated wearing cropped pants rather than true Capri pants.
But I think the reason this How You Absolutely CAN Wear Capri Pants this Summer post was so popular is because as we get older many of us tire of or shy away from wearing shorts and yet we still want some cooler options in the hot months. So in this post I shared tips for how to wear these shorter pants with a little more style and aplomb. I’m still not a huge fan of Capri pants myself, but remember, my motto is, “It’s your day. Style it your way.” So a big part of what I try to do here is equipping you to wear the styles you love and feel comfortable in with a little panache and good form.
Fun Fact: This blog post has received 83 comments (to date), far more than any of the other top 20 posts. Like I said, hot topic.
#9 – My Summer Wardrobe Essentials
I’m actually very glad that My Summer Wardrobe Essentials is in the top ten posts here at Dressed for My Day. One of the premises that I continually try to drive home is that if we have the closet essentials for a season we’ll be much more prepared to create an abundance of stylish outfits with even a pared back wardrobe.
Speaking of wardrobe essentials, did you catch my latest YouTube video? I shared the Winter Wardrobe Essential Base Layers we need to keep warm and stylish during the colder months HERE.
#8 – 10 Questions to Help You Make the Best Style Choices
Obviously I haven’t yet written the My 20 Favorite Blog Posts of 2021 post yet, but when I do I have a feeling 10 Questions to Help You Make the Best Style Choices will make the list. These are the kinds of posts that my regular readers seem to love the most. And I get it. We want to be smart, not just stylish, when it comes getting dressed.
I offer a lot of well tested and time proven style tips as well as personal opinions here at Dressed for My Day. And while I try to be cognitive of other body shapes, proportions, budgets and style aesthetics than my own, it’s only natural that I would share mostly what works for me. That’s why I wrote 10 Questions to Help You Make the Best Style Choices. These are the questions I suggest you ask not only as you peruse new styles and shop for the next season, but also as you read my blog posts and those of other bloggers. You need to do what’s right for you, and this blog post can help you with that.
#7 – Why I Added L’Oreal Midnight Serum to My Skincare Regimen
I’m a little surprised to see this next post in the top 20 list at all, much less at number seven. In fact, Why I Added L’Oreal Midnight Serum to My Skincare Regimen is the only sponsored post to make the list. But I don’t think L’Oreal or Walmart publicized the post in any way, so obviously women are probably searching for information about the L’Oreal Midnight Serum on the Internet and search engines are leading them to my post.
By the way, I have been experimenting with the Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum lately (’cause that’s just part of my job!), and while I do like it, I can still highly recommend the L’Oreal Midnight Serum wholeheartedly. So far, for me, the only significant difference between the Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum and the L’Oreal Midnight Serum is the scent. I do prefer the lighter, muskier scent of the Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum. But the L’Oreal Midnight Serum is still in my makeup drawer and I will probably pick up with it again eventually.
Did you know? Publishing sponsored posts is one of the several ways I earn an income here at Dressed for My Day. A sponsored post is simply one that the retailer or brand (in this case Walmart) pays for me to write. The sponsor usually gifts me the product and then pays me a fee to publish the post and amplify it on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. BUT I only accept sponsorships from brands and retailers I feel I can support and share with you with integrity. If I show clothing, I “shop for” the pieces I like and want to share, and I style them how I like. And I only ever share genuine opinions. I will never take a sponsorship from a brand I wouldn’t shop myself. In fact, I turn down many more offers than I accept.
#6 – Fall 2021 Wardrobe Essentials
Here’s yet another wardrobe essentials post. Fall 2021 Wardrobe Essentials was published in late August and quickly picked up steam as excitement for the new season developed.
I think the only reason Fall 2021 Wardrobe Essentials is behind the next top 20 blog post is because it’s had less time to accumulate page views.
#5 – Spring Wardrobe Essentials
And then the final wardrobe essentials list to make the top 20 blog posts list is the Spring Wardrobe Essentials. Honestly, I think the only reason the winter wardrobe essentials list never makes this best of list is because it doesn’t have time to accumulate the page views before I create this post. And actually this year I never published one here at the blog, only on YouTube. Anyhow, let’s hear it for spring!
#4 – How to Wear Straight Leg Ankle Jeans in the Winter
Now here’s a post that is actually relevant right now. If you’re still wearing your ankle length or cropped jeans (because they are definitely EVERYWHERE!), you might want to check out How to Wear Straight Leg Ankle Jeans in the Winter from last January.
In fact, questions about pairing jeans and shoes or boots are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive. Indeed, it can be a quandary! I also addressed a similar question, Wearing Straight Leg Jeans with Booties this Fall and Winter, in this recent post.
#3 – Why I’m Keeping My Skinny Jeans
“Are skinny jeans out of style?” That has to be the fashion dilemma of 2021! Short answer? No, skinny jeans are not out of style. But I also would assert that they are not in vogue. Straight leg silhouettes are definitely the more trending style right now. But in our number three post I explained Why I’m Keeping My Skinny Jeans.
Even though I just posted Why I’m Keeping My Skinny Jeans in November it has amassed a sizeable viewership. That’s partly because this post “went viral” when a blog digest picked it up the day after I posted.
#2 – How to Minimize Large Upper Arms with Fashion & Fitness
I think the blog posts that are most popular are also the ones that meet a felt need. And when we get over 50 so many of us struggle with larger upper arms. And I’m in that number myself. That’s why I wrote How to Minimize Large Upper Arms with Fashion & Fitness.
With these final two top 20 posts we’re actually getting into a whole different category. These posts meet such a need that they are viewed almost daily. How to Minimize Large Upper Arms with Fashion & Fitness has amassed over 55,000 pageviews this year.
#1 – Instead of Shorts Wear These 11 Alternatives
Likewise, Instead of Shorts Wear These 11 Alternatives has been viewed a whopping 206,569 times…as of Monday, December 27, 2021. But that number has probably changed by the time you are reading this post because Instead of Shorts Wear These 11 Alternatives gets about 75 pageviews a day…even during our winter.
I think this blog post is universally popular because as we get older many of us desire to wear shorts less often or even not at all. I published a similar post and video last year, and I’ll post another next year.
Before you go…
Well, that’s a wrap! Did any of these 20 popular posts bring you to Dressed for My Day initially? I’d love to know what brought you here. In fact, I’d love it if as many of you as would could share with me in the comments either what brought you here to begin with or what kinds of posts that I publish most resonate with you.
Keep in mind that my 20 most popular posts are simply the ones that have amassed the greatest number of pageviews, but I realize they may not be the most popular with my regular readers. And when push comes to shove, your opinion matters more to me than the number of viewers search engines send my way.
Later next week I’ll be sharing with you my favorite posts!

Blessed for My Day
As we draw this year to a close, we may be tempted to dwell only on the negative. There has certainly been enough negative to create a mountain of woes. But instead, at least for today, let’s focus on the TOP 20.
Create your own top 20 lists. Maybe write out your top 20 favorite memories. Or count your top 20 blessings, name them one by one! It’s a good day to bless the Lord, so you could also write out or list off your top 20 things that God has done for you this year.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefit. ~ Psalm 103:1-2
I found your blog in late 2018 from Pinterest. I had planned to write you to let you know how much I have enjoyed your posts.
Most days around 5 am I look at your 4 posts from the blog for the day from each year you have posted ( 2018 to present). The older posts are still relevant since they aren’t necessarily about what is trending. It kept me in touch with my femininity and provided a sense of belonging to a community of similar women. The blog has been a source of encouragement through the BFMD and your community of readers. Without looking at their names I can identify Ginger, Eve,Sherry, Natalie and so on.
What I appreciated most were the posts concerning concepts such as proportion, color, contrast and so on. Until now my wardrobe needs were different- wore dresses and heels to work and I am also petite. Now my wardrobe will be more casual since I retired yesterday after 39 years as a doctor.
Thank you for your positivity and focus on ultimately what really matters – our relationship with Christ.
Jen, congratulations on your retirement. But more importantly congratulations on 39 years as a doctor. Wow! You have certainly made an impact. I hope you enjoy this next phase of life. Thank you for taking some time to share with us your interaction with Dressed for My Day. That’s interesting and encouraging. I had to laugh out loud as you mentioned other community members who comment frequently, each with their own unique style of comments. They mean so much to me and truly make this website feel more like a group of friends. Bless you! 🥰
I discovered you on a video you “shared” with Beth Djalali on how to wear a colourful coat- it was a gorgeous shade of pink. From that I then gradually watched all the videos you had made and subscribed to your blog.
I like all your content and appreciate the positive attitudes you try to maintain and inspire. I also really like the inner beauty videos you have made.
Thank you so much for sharing this Sue. I plan to do more inner beauty videos this year. I actually had one made for Christmas but never had or took time to edit it. But I’ll replace it with something similar but less date restricted in a few weeks. Thanks again for sharing. So helpful. 😊
Good morning
Kay thank you for such a encouraging year both in fashion and spiritually .
You mentioned a devotional by Charles Stanley you were going to read this coming year.
May l have the title, l have been reading his daily devotional blog this year.
Happy healthy New Year
Warmly
Judy Dlugosh
Hi Judy. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the blog. Yes, I’m reading Jesus, Our Perfect Hope in the mornings https://shopstyle.it/l/bCnns and Every Day In His Presence in the evenings https://shopstyle.it/l/bCnms
Hi Kay I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your blog post and your YouTube videos keep up the good work in 2022 Kelly
I’m not sure how I heard about you. Probably from another blogger. I follow Cyndi Spivey and Jo-Lynne Shane. I love your blog, especially your transparency! Your love for the Lord is foremost. You are definitely using the talents He gave you to glorify Him. And we are both GA girls!
Thanks so much for sharing Joan. I follow both of those lovely ladies too and of course have worked with them. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog. Bless you. 🍑
I found one of your posts on pinterest when searching for outfit ideas for 50’s somethings. From the first post, I enjoyed everything about your blog, from outfit inspiration to your genuine happy demeanor. I love that you have found a way to connect with so many people to be able to share the love of Christ. You feel like a friend and I enjoy ‘spending time with you’ every day! I have modified my wardrobe based on several of your suggestions – including getting happy with some of my favorites using the you-do-you philosophy! 🙂 I really like the how I dress for my day posts as well as the how/why/essentials posts – but I find that I learn something from virtually every post/video. Thank you for all you do to encourage women!
Kay, I saw a photo of you on Pinterest during the first lockdown of Covid in 2020. Your beautiful, genuine smile and your uncluttered style brought me to your blog. I have learned So Much from you and I am so thankful for your blog, not only for the style and fashion ideas, but Blessed for My Day. Learning more about God and Jesus has helped me begin and maintain daily bible reading. In the New Year I plan to purchase a daily devotional recommended by you. I love that you share your life with your readers. When I open your blog, or You Tube video, I feel like I’m connecting with a special girlfriend. Thank you!
Hello Kay,
I found your vlog/blog when you partnered with Robyn from Faith and Flour, and I am so glad I did! You have helped and encouraged me in so many ways to stay modern! I am a believer, former pastor’s wife, an avid Talbots customer (I was there yesterday), and I have purchased L’Oreal Midnight Serum for both me and my mother.
I absolutely loved your #2 post and have reread it several times. I am hopeful that you will put it on your vlog list (hint, hint!).
Heather
Hi Heather. Thanks so much for letting me know. I love Robyn and working with her. And yes, I can definitely do a video on that topic, probably in the late spring. Thanks for the suggestion. 💕
Great recap! I enjoyed checking out several posts including re: matcha-matcha (guilty, and yet monochrome is on trend) and straight leg ankle pants (5’3”, hate them).
Thanks for all you do for us, and best wishes for the new year.
