For the past two days we’ve been talking here about skincare and beauty for us mature ladies. Today I’m continuing this tiny beauty series with my evening skincare for women over 50. I tend to try and test out a lot of products due to my job here at Dressed for My Day. But these are the products and routine I’m currently using with some pretty good results.

My Skin Concerns
I won’t go over all my skin concerns, including my run-in with skin cancer this past year. You can refer back to Tuesday’s post for that. But suffice it to say that my skin has aged and I’m battling the tiny lines, wrinkles, lack of elasticity, dullness and age spots that many women deal with at this time of life. I’m 58 years old and I’ve had no cosmetic surgeries or procedures (not to say that I’m against that, if you have). My skin is generally dry, but not sensitive.
But with the products I’m using now in the morning and evening, I’m seeing great results. I feel like my skin looks better than it has in a couple of years, and I’ve noticed improvement in the texture. I don’t get the dry patches I once did, nor does my skin get scaly as it sometimes has, especially during the winter.
Let’s get started on that evening skincare routine!
Makeup Removal
First I remove my eye makeup with the Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. I’ve found that using a product like this helps me remove my mascara and eyeshadow more easily than with just a facial cleanser.
Cleansing
I mentioned the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm in my morning skincare routine, too. I don’t always use it in the mornings, but I absolutely love using it at the end of the day. It really makes washing your face a treat.
The Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (also from Elemis directly) is a silky, creamy balm that looks somewhat like lemon curd and feels rich and oily. But it smells a-maze-ing and leaves your skin feeling so soft and moisturized and healthy. You can actually apply it three ways: as a rich balm, lathered into a froth with water or thick like a mask. After working a small dime size dollop into my skin with warm water, I use a warm, wet wash cloth to press it into my skin and then gently wipe it off. This is such a luxurious step in my morning (and evening) routine. I absolutely love this silky soft balm.
You can get many of these products that I’m sharing at a variety of retailers, of course. But right now just through February 28th, Nordy club members can get 2x points at Nordstrom on beauty buys. So it’s a good time to purchase many of these items at Nordstrom, especially since they always offer free shipping and returns.
Applying an Antioxidant
I always apply the Timeless Skin Care 10% Vitamin C serum in my evening skincare routine. Vitamin C restores & neutralizes environmental stressors that can accelerate the signs of aging. Plus, this serum includes a 10% concentration of L-ascorbic acid, a highly effective skin antioxidant and collagen builder. Topically applied vitamin C also brightens skin, builds collagen & evens out skin tone. And this Timeless formulation is enhanced with Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid to correct hyperpigmentation and discoloration, and promote healthy skin turnover.
The Timeless Skin Care 10% Vitamin C serum should be kept in a cool place, preferably a refrigerator. But we keep our house so cool that I think it’s just fine in my bathroom. It comes out through an innovative pump system that keeps the fragile vitamin complex from getting contaminated. I just use two small squirts of the Timeless Skin Care 10% Vitamin C serum, dab it on my face thoroughly ( no need to rub it in) and let it set a bit before the next step.
I break my skincare routines up a bit, allowing each step to dry or set up before moving to the next step. During these “breaks” I do things like brush my teeth or get dressed for bed.
I have heard from two or three readers in the past that they had some undesirable reactions to the Timeless Skin Care 10% Vitamin C serum. But it’s worked very well for me and I’ve had no problems with it. All that to say that I definitely suggest you always change just one skincare product at a time, especially if you have sensitive skin. That way you can easily identify the culprit of any undesirable reactions and cease using it. Everyone’s skin is different, so what works for me may or may not work for you.
Massaging My Scar with Silicone Gel
My dermatologist suggested that I use a gel on my scar after my Mohs surgery. She said most scar gels do pretty well, but that they’ve seen the best results with gels that contain silicone. So I massage the Eau Thermale Avene Cicalfate+ Scar Gel into my scar morning and night.
The Eau Thermale Avene Cicalfate+ Scar Gel is a thick gel that goes on smoothly and absorbs fairly quickly, so sometimes I actually massage several dollops into the scar. The nurse suggested I massage the scar for five minutes each day. But I confess, I generally don’t spend that much time on it. I have noticed acceptable and significant improvement in my scar as time has progressed. I’ve also started apply the Eau Thermale Avene Cicalfate+ Scar Gel to an old scar on my arm and I’m even seeing noticeable change there.
Repairing with Serums
I use two serums in the evening, one for my face and one for around my eyes.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Face Serum
I did try (for this sponsored video) the L’Oreal Midnight Serum. And I truly liked that serum and still recommend it. I had wonderful results with it. My only problem with the L’Oreal Midnight Serum was that it has a somewhat overwhelming sweet scent. True, all serums seem to have some scent. And the very sweet scent of the L’Oreal Midnight Serum generally faded within a few minutes of wear. But I just didn’t enjoy applying that heavy scent to my face each evening.
So when I found the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Face Serum paired with their eye serum I had wanted to try (in a set like this) at a good price, I decided to give it a try. The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Face Serum looks and feels very similar to the L’Oreal serum, but it has a more tolerable scent in my estimation. It also feels a little less tacky, a little more smooth.
But the bottom line is I do suggest that we women over 50 invest in a serum. A serum is a light, fast-absorbing liquid used as an alternative to or in addition to lotions or creams. One of the main differences between a serum and the other creams you may already use on your face is what it doesn’t include. Serums don’t contain the extra fluids and thickening agents that creams and lotions have. And they don’t contain things like UV protection. Instead, serums are a high concentration of active, potent ingredients that significantly aid your skin in cell growth and regeneration, things like antioxidants, vitamins and peptides.
The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Face Serum is working really well for me and I do think my skin has improved in elasticity and brightness since I began using it. My face holds moisture better now than it used to, as well.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery Eye Cream
It should probably be said that I’ve actually used both the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Face Serum and this Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream off and on for years. I’ve been away from both for a few years now, but I’m enjoying the effects of having returned to these familiar products.
I use a small amount (even much smaller than what is on my finger above) on the skin around both eyes each evening. With the ring finger on my left hand (my non-dominant hand) I tap the silky ointment just around the skin over the orbital bone around the eye. I don’t get near my actual eye or lid. I find that using an eye cream like this helps reduce puffiness, dark circles, crows feet and scaliness.
Moisturizing & Hydrating
I mentioned in my Daytime Skincare Routine post that a friend introduced my to Paula’s Choice skincare with a few gifts this Christmas. The other full-size product she gave me was this Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol that I use as my final step of my evening skincare for women over 50.
This extremely light lotion is suppose to smooth and hydrate my skin while also firming it. Since beginning using this Retinol enhanced moisturizer I can definitely tell a difference in my face, as it has noticeably smoothed and reduced wrinkles around my mouth, between my brows and on my forehead. Because I also apply all of my skincare products to my neck as well, I can also see a dramatic difference there, too.
I appreciate that the Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol, as well as all other Paula’s Choice products, are non-irritating, fragrance free and cruelty free. I know those keys are important to many of my readers, too. So I do plan to try out more of their products. You can get a head start on me here.
That’s a Wrap!
My evening skincare routing for women over 50 is really very simple. And I go to bed feeling like my skin has been tended to, but it doesn’t feel like it has a lot of product on it.

Do you ever feel out of step with the world around you? Join the club! No, not my club. When we feel out of sorts with the world around us we are walking a few steps in Jesus’ sandals. He loves the world, but when He walked amongst men He never fit in. He was ridiculed and ostracized and critiqued mercilessly.
So when you turn on the television and feel like you’re of a different world from that in which you in fact live, know that you’re not alone. The more we identify with Christ the more foreign this world will feel to us. Yes, that feels uncomfortable. But at those moments put your hope in the fact that you are in step with the One who created you and came to earth for you.
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him. And he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. ~ Luke 16:14-15
What is the pad you are showing in the photo with the eye makeup remover? Does it work well? Thanks!
It is a reusable washable pad from Mary Kay. You can get similar ones from other brands such as this one https://shopstyle.it/l/bEs7n
I know you have been concentrating on the neck up but in these posts but wondered what body lotion you preferred. Enjoy the rest of your well deserved vacation!
I use this one all over https://shopstyle.it/l/bEs7t and this on my upper arms https://shopstyle.it/l/bEs8V at my dermatologist’s recommendation.
I recently started using Beauty Pie skin care and make up and am loving all the products and brushes. Would be interested to read a post from you about this line. I first learned of the brand when I heard the owner interviewed on a business podcast for women. Then a few months later I was in a Zoom meeting about political activism and the presenter, a 50-something woman, received so many compliments on her makeup in the post Zoom survey, she shared that she was wearing Beauty Pie. That prompted me to give it a try.
I use the Estee Lauder serum at night, but not every night. Just every other. Also use the Estee Lauder eye cream.
Hope you had a great birthday! Good BFMD. We live in some perilous times and it is good to remember when we walk with Jesus, we will feel on the outside of the world, but so much closer to Him.
Have a great fun vacation and a wonderful Birthday. I am interested in your night skincare. It seems, for me, to be a lot of different items to remember and the order to put them on your face. Do you know of any all in one or even all in two? I am going to save your post for future reference. Thank you.
Kay,
I agree it’s important to care for our skin (especially as we age) and have a routine for am/pm. The beauty market is saturated with skincare products. The choices are endless! Your post reminded me of Estee Lauder’s moisturizer which I am considering going back to. I feel like skin creams/serums are just like shampoos that work wonders when first tried and then wane as time goes on. The fewer chemical lines of skincare are also something I will consider.
Thanks.
I like the shade of nail polish you are wearing. What is it?
I just bought a dermaplaner. I have used them before. The one I bought was from Versed. And I found out, it is very sharp. I’m now sporting two wounds on my face from it. Just small scratch. But it bled and now I look like I have been in a battle. So I’m going to be way more careful the next time I use it. Before I have bought the cheaper ones. And had no problem. I’ve learned my lesson now. I was going to get my hair cut today. But that had to be rescheduled. I’m not going anywhere looking like this. I watched your video last night. That’s what reminded me I needed to do that. But what the one I bought could be used as a weapon. And I bought extra refills. So I can attest to how well it works. This one will last me a while.
Oh my. Sorry to hear about that but good to know. Take care! 💕
