When I visit my family in Georgia, I’m literally minutes from many of our favorite retailers. So I like to take advantage of the proximity and get in a few try-on sessions. Earlier this week I dropped into Loft and I found some great things I want to share with you. I’ve got my fingers crossed that they’re having a good sale today!

Sizing
I weigh about 155 on a good day and I’m holding steady so far at 5’8″ tall. I have a pear or hourglass shape and balanced proportions. That’s just to give you reference when you’re looking to see how these items fit on me.
I generally wear size 8 in tops, bottoms and dresses. But I sometimes wear the curvy fit size 8 if they are available. I generally wear a medium in all of those pieces, too. So unless I tell you otherwise, those are the sizes I’m wearing. I’ll also alert you if something runs small or large; otherwise, assume it runs true to size. That way I can focus on other factors.
ONE MORE THING…in all the photos I’m wearing my Sam Edelman Lior loafers in soft beige (they’re almost sold out), my Kendra Scott split hoop earrings and my Kendra Scott Olive necklace.
Loft Try-On Session
While I’ve loved shopping Loft for years, I do find that many of their styles are feeling a little too youthful for me these days. But I don’t mind trying things on because I’m sometimes surprised to discover that what I thought would look too young indeed looks quite suitable. Still, a few of the styles I’m showing do fall into that category. I’ll point them out when I get to them. And I’m still showing the photos of those because I do have younger readers here, too. And you may feel differently about them anyhow.
I find Loft fashions generally run true to size to a little large. I tried on my normal 8 or medium in everything I’m showing. So if something looks a little large to you that might be an indicator that you’d want to size down.
C’est La Vie Everyday Crew Tee //
I do frequently find fun t-shirts at Loft. They are always lightweight and frequently fit a little large. But I think I would be satisfied with my TTS medium that I’m wearing here. The C’est La Vie is embroidered across the tee for a nice touch. This is a great little tee for pairing with chinos, jeans or shorts.
Monroe Slim Chino Pants //
I’ve loved Loft’s chinos for years. They are made in the softest fabric and usually come in great shades. This year is no exception. Above I’m wearing the Monroe Slim Chino Pants in coastal grey, but it really reads more like a soft navy to me. I really wanted to try the curvy fit, but they don’t carry them in the store. So I’m wearing the regular fit and they really work rather well in my usual size 8. They also do not have quite as many color choices in the curvy fit. The Monroe Slim Chino Pants also come in petites and talls, but in fewer color ways. These have a 10 1/4″ rise and a 26 1/2″ inseam for a cropped length on my 5’8″ frame. They do ride a little lower than I normally like my pants to it, but that doesn’t keep me from wearing them.
You’ll also see me wear these Monroe Slim Chino Pants in Perfectly Blue and Seaside Sand further down in this post. I ended up buying them in the Perfectly Blue.
Primrose Yellow Swing Jacket //
The Primrose Yellow Swing Jacket is 100% cotton and the lining is polyester. Yellow is trending big this spring and summer, and this Primrose Yellow Swing Jacket is a fun way to add it to your wardrobe. I love the swing silhouette; it’s sporty and fun without looking silly. This jacket does run quite large. I’m wearing a medium, but I would definitely size down to a small.
New York Everyday Crew Tee //
Loft has several of these “city” crew tees. I think the only one they had in the store was this New York Everyday Crew Tee, but you might want to check out the…
So fun! These work great under a jean jacket, blazer or cardigan. I’d say they run true to size. And by the way, some but not all of the graphics are embroidered onto the tee.
Striped Knit Mdern Blazer //
As I look at this photo I’m trying to figure out why I did not buy the Striped Knit Mdern Blazer. It has a modern relaxed fit, but still looks a little more tailored than many I’m seeing. Stripes are really trending, and you could easily wear this fun blazer into the fall. It is fully lined and the jacket itself is a nice, stretchy knit fabric. You can unbutton and roll up the sleeves a bit for a really modern vibe. I’m wearing a size 8. The stripes are a soft, inky black.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post on my recent Talbots Try-On Session, I left there wearing this raspberry Shaker Stitch Bishop Sleeve Cardigan. I already have the pensive blue Relaxed V-Neck Cardigan from Loft already (shown in this recent blog post), so I didn’t bother trying on another at Loft. But I wanted you to see how this New York Everyday Crew Tee and Monroe Slim Chino Pants combo looks with a similar cardigan. Such a nice casual outfit for spring.
Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Top //
I already own the Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Top rapture red, but I decided to try on the whisper white for you here. I have to say, at least for me, I prefer the rapture red. I think it’s a little more slenderizing. But this top does have a nice silhouette. As I mentioned in this post, I’d been avoiding the big ruffle sleeve trend. But when I tried this top on in the rapture red I was quite surprised at how much I like it. The flutter cap sleeves help widen your shoulders and create the illusion of a smaller waist. Of course if you have wide shoulders already you may want to avoid this silhouette. But I think the shirt is quite flattering for many of us. It’s very soft cotton, polyester, Spandex blend. It fits true to size.
Riviera Slim Pants in floral print //
In fact, the reason I brought the Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Top to the fitting room was to try it with these Riviera Slim Pants in this darling floral print. At that point I could figure what else to pair with them. But with a little trial and error I found other things I like better with these darling 65% Cotton, 33% Lyocell, 2% Spandex pants. They fit true to size and I love the tight print and the pretty colors in this fabric. In fact, Loft has lots of other garments available in this same tiny floral print. I love these fun pants and bought them.
Chambray Ruffle Top //
Because, as I pointed out in yesterday’s try-on session, I believe that chambray is a great pairing for print pants, I tried on this Chambray Ruffle Top with the floral print Riviera Slim Pants. I do like the 100% button up top, but it’s a little heavy for me to tuck in. And I don’t care for the length if it’s left out. I also couldn’t quite figure out what to do with the neck. On the website it’s open, but the shirt would not stay that way for me. It does run true to size.
So just as I was about to get dressed again, I tried on the New York Everyday Crew Tee with the Riviera Slim Pants in floral print. That’s when I fell in love with both. I topped the tee with my raspberry Shaker Stitch Bishop Sleeve Cardigan from Talbots and felt like I’d hit a homerun. This combination may not be for everyone, but I absolutely love mixing prints. And one of the easiest ways to mix prints is to pair a print of any kind with a graphic tee. I think this outfit looks fresh and fun. Oh, and both my mom and my daughter agree.
Smocked V-Neck Muscle Tee in mint lake //
This Smocked V-Neck Muscle Tee is more flattering than I expected. I would definitely give it a front tuck; otherwise, it looks a little shapeless for my taste. But it’s a nice option for warm days. The wide arm hole and slightly capped sleeve along with the v-neck actually help to minimize large upper arms. It’s a soft 100% cotton and available in several other nice colors, too.
High Rise Kick Crop Jeans in Dark Indigo Wash //
It’s been a while since I’ve tried any jeans from Loft, so I decided to include these High Rise Kick Crop Jeans in Dark Indigo Wash in my try-on session. They still carry a lot of skinny jeans at Loft, but I’m just done with those. So I opted for the kick flare silhouette. I really like these High Rise Kick Crop Jeans as far as fit and feel. But I’m not really sold on the kick flare silhouette for my pear shape body. I think these especially work for women with H or l shape bodies because they add some visual curves. They do have a nice 11 1/2″ rise, so that’s a definite win in my book. And Loft sells good jeans at a great price.
Zoo Dot Flutter Peplum Top //
I love polka dots, so I had to try this Zoo Dot Flutter Peplum Top even though it’s one of those tops that felt a little young to me. However, I do indeed love the silhouette of this double v-neck top. The navy and white Zoo Dot Flutter Peplum Top is 100% rayon but machine washable. It fits true to size.

Floral Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Dress //
The Floral Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Dress fits true to size and feels really nice on. I think it is a little too youthful for my taste, but, especially if you are more petite or younger you may love this simple frock. The flutter sleeves are very on trend, but really they’re a classic sleeve. And the fitted waist falls softly on your body, creating a lovely silhouette. It would look nice with a denim jacket over it and sandals.
Floral Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Midi Dress //
Even though I felt like it might be a little young for me, I tried on the Floral Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Midi Dress. I love the dress. It feels floaty and flirty, but obviously it falls to mid calf. This is a much better length for my comfort. The front and back feature a v-neck. And the flutter cap sleeves and tiered skirt create a lovely feminine silhouette. I texted Abby to see what size she wears in Loft dresses, but she responded to late. I definitely would have purchased this dress for my 28 year-old daughter. But I’m still not sure I’d feel comfortable in it myself. That’s not to say an older woman shouldn’t wear this dress. I really think it has more to do with your comfort level concerning your shoulders. I just didn’t care for the back view on me.
So that’s a wrap! I hope the Loft Try-On Session was helpful to you. Let me know if you have any questions.

Blessed for My Day
“I lack nothing. I have everything I need.” Can you say that today with assurance and contentment? While I may still have requests on my prayer list, tasks on my to-do list and wants on my shopping list, I know that my God has promised that I will lack for nothing. He has truly provided everything I need for this good day.
When we learn to say that we are satisfied and really mean it, we can rest in God’s provision and be glad for what He has given. We can stop struggling and striving, and we can instead be generous and gracious. A rested soul is a joyful soul.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. ~ Psalm 23:1-3
Really adorable casual pieces! Must visit Loft soon! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, yes! Loved the teeny floral print pants with the graphic T and cardi. Perfect way to “mix prints”! The floral print reminded me of Liberty prints from London that J.Crew features regularly. Well done!
I enjoyed your try on session very much and agreed with all of you accessments except for the kick crop jeans. I personally think the color and style were very slimming and darling on you- very balancing for you shape. What did your daughter think?
Hahaha! Thanks Carla. I think several women have noted that they like the kick crop jeans on me. I guess, like everyone else, it takes me a while to let my eyes adjust to a new silhouette. This is one of those silhouettes that I just don’t particularly care for…yet. But that could easily change with time. On some trends I’m an early adapter, and on others I take a while to come around. But I appreciate your comments.
I am struggling with wearing the city tees when I don’t live there??? Help me with that thinking, please. They were so cute on you!
Oh, I think they’re just a fun way to say you love that city. Or even just the thought of it! They’re reminiscent of a souvenir T-shirt but embroidered. 🥰
Soooo many great pieces! The tiny floral print really caught my eye. I don’t wear print pants as much as I used to, but these are calling my name (in fact, I’m picturing them with a cute navy top that’s already in my closet)! I liked the midi dress, too, but the V in the back would keep me from buying this. Over the last couple of years, I’ve come across lots of dresses that I love…until I notice a V back, and the dress goes right back on the rack. At my age, I’m just not comfortable in a V back. I guess I could wear a tank top underneath?
Perhaps an idea for a future post – taking pieces that are wonderful on someone younger and styling them for the over 60 crowd?
Yes, I like that idea, Melanie. Maybe sometime I can get Abby to do a mother daughter post with us both styling the same pieces differently.
Kay,
So refreshing to see the floral prints. I will be happy to shed the sweaters and coats and welcome the new season.
Nice post!
Contentment is great gain!!
Love the Loft pieces just not sure about the ruffles. I think I’m beyond them at 64! 🙂
So often I screenshot your devotional thoughts. Thank you So much. I am so thankful for the gift of contentment and that I can testify to the satisfaction HE alone gives.
I received my embroidery Henley sweater today and fell in love with it. Put it on with straight leg jeans and wore it to the grocery store with a sweater cardigan in navy. It is so comfortable and cute. Know I will wear it a lot. Glad I bought it.
Wow your loft has a really good selection. I was a loft a weekends ago they didnt have to much. I did the NY tee shirt I couldn’t past it up it had most of my favorite NY foods. Im going to have to check online cuz you have opened my eyes to a select of things that i didnt see like navy pants. a have for spring
My favorite on you were the striped blazer, graphic tee, and khakis–it looks so fresh and Springy! Thanks for sharing these!
Yes, I liked that combo too. I’m wondering why I didn’t buy that blazer. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Kay!
Just curious…..I know you do a lot of shopping for clothes each season….do you have a budget that you stick to when purchasing new clothes like say for Spring? Do you purge your closet each season and get rid of old items for new? Being retired now, I have a lot less money to spend on clothes so need to figure out a budget and what I really need each season. Thank you. I want to be a good steward with my clothing purchases.
If it were not my job to share fashions I would definitely have a much more streamlined closet. But I receive clothes from retailers and try to buy a mixture of closet classics and trending pieces each season to show here and on my YouTube channel. I do purge my closet at the beginning of each new season, but I would not get rid of many of the things I do if I were not in this job. I hate letting go of a lot of the things I give away. I absolutely do suggest having a quarterly budget for updating your wardrobe as needed. I have a budget for that but it’s very different from what it would be if I weren’t a style blogger.
I bought the yellow primrose jacket and I love it! it does run large as you stated and I bought a size down which fits me great. I really wanted a yellow piece for the spring and couldn’t be happier with this one. Thanks Kay for showing it during your try on session because I don’t usually shop at Loft and would have missed it!!!
Oh I’m so glad you like it. I do think it’s a great splash of yellow to add to a spring wardrobe. So fun.
I’m a little late reading email. We have a similar body shape. Why don’t you like the flare crop jeans? I thought they looked really good on you! I have tried a few ruffle sleeve tops and hate them on my older arms. I think those tops direct the attention to an area you don’t want attention too. My favorite outfit was that fun blazer, tee and pants. You can always go back and get the blazer 😉
Thank you for featuring Loft!
