Happy First Week of Spring! We have had two beautiful days of spring weather in Georgia, and I think they had a couple of pretty nice days in Ohio, too. But today it’s all about spring showers as I travel home. I guess rain showers are indeed typical spring weather, too. Well, enough about the weather. Let’s talk shoes! Spring shoes, that is. Today I’m sharing pretty spring shoes we’ll want in our wardrobe…before we’re really ready for a sandals-worthy pedicure.
I know some of my readers may already be wearing sandals. But many of us will need at least a few more weeks before we’re ready to bare our feet and slip them into sandals. So today I’m focusing on the non-toe-baring shoes that we can enjoy accessorizing our outfits with this spring and into the summer. And before the sandals sell out, I will definitely publish a Spring & Summer Sandals overview next week. So stay tuned.
But today let’s talk a little about spring 2022 shoe trends. And I’ll share lots of pretty spring shoes at a full range of prices for you to shop.
Pretty Spring Shoes for 2022
No one necessarily needs all of these types of shoes in her closet for spring 2022. But you’ll probably want at least three or more of the categories I’m sharing, in order for your wardrobe to function seamlessly this spring.
Also, while I stuck to neutrals for the most part in my illustration here, many of these favorites are available in other pretty spring colors, as well as animal prints and textures. So be sure to click through the links if you’re at all interested in the shoes. You may love what you find.
One more thing. I tried to select shoes in a variety of price points for this post. Of course, you generally get what you pay for. But, like me, you probably like to splurge on some styles, spend wisely on others and save a bundle on the trendier shoes you wear the least.
Sneakers
I think it’s essential to have at least one pair of fun and easy fashion sneakers in your wardrobe. And it’s best for them to be truly comfortable and functional as well as versatile. I like having a white or other neutral (off white shades are really trending), but it’s fun to have a more colorful sneaker that can add a pop to your most basic casual outfits, too.
I like to wear my sneakers with jeans, joggers and casual chinos during the spring. But you might also wear them with skirts and dresses. This year the retro trainers continue to trend, but I’m seeing them in a lot more lovely neutrals, like the New Balance X J.Crew trainers I have. I LOVE mine.
What’s trending in sneakers this spring:
- retro trainers
- knit sneakers
- iconic sneakers like Keds, Converse and Vans

For each shoe type I’m providing a shopping widget full of shoppable images. Just click on the image and you will be taken to the website of the store where it is available. I’ve tried to provide a wide range of choices in an equally wide range of prices. And remember, for all shoes most of them come in several other colors and even patterns, so click through to see other options. These are affiliate links, so if you shop through them I will earn a commission on your purchase. Thank you for supporting my work by shopping my links.
Loafers
I find myself wearing loafers more often than not in the spring. It’s so easy to slip into these classic shoes and they’re generally very comfortable and cool. You’ll find them in the standard neutrals such as navy, black, cognac and beige, but also pretty spring colors.
I love wearing my loafers with jeans, dressier slacks, chinos and skirts. You can wear them with no-show socks or nothing in the spring.
What’s trending in loafers this spring:
- chunky chains and other accessories across the front
- lug soles
- white and ivory loafers
- chunkier silhouettes
- contrasting color trim
- Easter egg colors such as blue, green, yellow and pink

Mules
I’d say mules are the half-cousin to loafers. Literally, half. Hahaha! Anyhow, these slip on shoes with a closed toe continue to trend for 2022. And really these are a great shoe for spring because you feel a little lighter wearing them, but you don’t have to have those toe nails perfect just yet.
And this year we’re seeing such fun colors, fabrics and patterns. I’ve ordered the Tory Burch woven Jessas in crisp blue (shown above) and they’re awaiting me at home. I cannot wait to try them. But these beautiful shoes also come in a sweet corn yellow that has me doubting my color choice. Hmm. But I found lots of other pretty mules in much lower prices. Aren’t those Kate Spade print trimmed mules above just dreamy? And the canvas and faux leather buckle strap mules look oh so chic to me.
I’m including clogs in this category because I didn’t want to create an entire category just for them. But clogs have definitely made a comeback. I’m sitting that trend out for now, but I’ve included some here and in the Slingback category.
What’s trending in mules:
- unique fabrications
- crochet or other woven textures
- basket weave
- pretty colors
- various heel heights
- buckle, chain, bow and other detailing
- clogs
Ballet Flats
I know that many women love wearing ballet flats in the spring. I’ve never worn them much because I don’t feel like they offer much if any support or padding. But lately we’re seeing more ballet flats with a firmer and more cushioned sole. Also the trending ballet flats have more structure to them, often featuring squared off toes and details such as buckles or buttons instead of the traditional bows.
I do think the newer ballet flats are a lovely choice for wearing with skirts and dresses as well as some dress pants and jeans.
My Sarah Flint Sacchetto Ballet Flats are extremely comfortable and very nicely padded for all day support and ease of wear. They also come in a lovely petal pink and sand as well as a few other options. These are pricey investment shoes, but you can use my code SARAHFLINT-BAKAYH for $50 off your first purchase of Sarah Flint shoes.
Trending in ballet flats this spring:
- square toes
- pretty colors
- masculine details
- more padding and firmer soles

I’m actually including a few other flats that have a pointy toe, not necessarily traditional ballet flats.
Espadrilles
While I associate espadrilles more with summer, you definitely can start wearing these warm weather shoes now. They are marked by the woven finishing on the heels or soles and are often made of canvas or other fabrics.
We’ll also see espadrilles that are toeless, but sticking with today’s pre-pedicure theme I’m filling the shopping widget with closed toes options. These traditional warm weather shoes are fun to wear with skirts and dresses as well as slacks and jeans.

Slingbacks
Of course a slingback is a silhouette that we can see in everything from flats to heels to espadrille wedges to clogs. But I decided to include them as a separate category because I think spring is a great time to pull these backless shoes out and wear them more. They just look a little springier than traditional pumps or flats. And this year they’re actually trending.
Of course if you’ve ever worn slingbacks you know that the conundrum is finding shoes that have a back strap that actually stays put so the shoes don’t flop on your feet as you walk. But I’ve discovered that most shoe brands have indeed gotten much better about creating very wearable, walkable slingbacks.
And this year I’m especially loving slingbacks as an option for spring flats. I’m seeing so many in pretty colors, gingham or floral prints. And as I said before, clogs are definitely trending. So adding a back strap is one way to try that trend and feel a little more secure on your feet.

Pumps
And finally pumps. You may know that I strongly advocate having a pair of nude (your color of nude) pumps in your closet all four seasons. But I find that I probably wear mine the most during the spring. A nude pump makes your legs look longer and leaner, and they elevate any look. You can wear them with dresses and skirts or pants and even jeans.
I love wearing my Ally bossy beige classic pumps because I know they look good and they feel amazing. I can literally wear these all day without affect.
But I also recently received the Tender Taupe Patent Leather kitten heels and wore them to Abby’s showers. I honestly didn’t even know I had shoes on. One of the hostesses asked me about them and I had to think for a minute about whether or not I was heels. Their kittens heels and other shoes come in a wide variety of colors. If you’re interested in these premium leather handcrafted shoes, be sure to use their sizing guide and use my code KAYHEELS for $40 off your first pair of heels or KAYFLATS for 10% off your first pair of flats.
What’s trending in pumps this spring:
- pretty colors – don’t be afraid to fill out your wardrobe with a blue or yellow pump!
- unusual heel shapes and hardware
- square toes, but always pointy toes, too
- platforms
- cutouts

Blessed for My Day
I’ve enjoyed watching the trees in my parents’ wooded neighborhood begin to green over the past week. With ample doses of both sunshine and rain, the pear trees, dogwoods, and other hardwood trees have begun to sprout tiny leaves green leaves. That green growth indicates life and promises fragrant blossoms are soon to follow.
But when I lived in the desert of Arizona I was always even more impressed with the large green trees that stayed green all year long. They were located just north of the Mexico border but along the side of a river. That river, along with the constant sunshine we had in Arizona, kept foliage on those trees even through snowy, cold winters. I want to be like those trees. I want to exhibit the blessings of the Lord through thick and thin because my roots go deep into His love and my trust is in Him.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” ~ Jeremiah 17:7-8
Thanks for putting this shoe post together for us! I have said a special prayer for very safe travels for you today.
I rarely wear heels because I have never found any to be comfortable. I am considering purchasing the Ally Classic pump in Bossy Beige based on your recommendation. Could you please answer a question for me? Do you consider these to be a timeless style so that I could be assured I will still be wearing them ten years from now? And do they have a slight pinkish color to them? I guess that is two questions. Thank you Kay. Love your posts so much!
Hi Kathy. Fortunately Ally works really hard to ensure you are happy with your shoes. They are indeed timeless and I think you will wear them for years happily. The Bossy Beige is more of a soft taupe. Maybe only the slightest pink tinge. I don’t have them in front of me right now. But I think the photos on their website are quite accurate. And like I said Ally has a good return policy so if you’re not happy with the color you can return them.
I know you are not asking for my recommendation, but here it is. I have bought Ally shoes based on Kay’s recommendation and found them to be made of beautiful materials. They are very high quality. My favorite pair is has a Mary Jane strap. I highly recommend adding the Mary Jane strap if you, like me, are no longer accustomed to walking in heels.
Your blessed for my day post is the best! Sherry
I want every loafer and every mule posted here, lol! I would say the pumps too but I don’t wear them these days. All so beautiful!
Thanks, and have a safe trip home!
I have narrow feet and a narrow heel. As a result, I have a difficult time finding any shoes. I wish there were more options. Shoe manufacturers typically don’t offer the narrow option.🙁 Can anyone suggest sources for narrow shoes?
I have narrow feet and heels. Many of the narrow styles at Marmi work for me. They are pricey but are good quality.
Maryland Square has narrow shoes.
Kay, Your post today was wonderful!! I’m so excited because you gave so many ides for wearing flats this Spring & Summer!!! Those of us disabled as I am must have flats!!! Thank you for the Blessing of the Day!! I long to be that green tree that stays green and bears fruit all year long!!!
Loving todays shoe post! So many pretty shoes!!! I’m crushing on the Tory Burch blue mules – they might have my name on them!!!😘
I love all your options for shoes. I have been thinking about the Ally Pumps myself in the taupe. The kitten heal might be nice too, as they would give you the heals and still a little like a flat. Good shoes are always a must for me. Be kind to your feet and they will kind to you. People that buy synthetic shoes usually end up with sore or bad feet, I have found this to be true. Very nice BFMD.
I hope you made it home without too much trouble Kay! We were on a cruise last week and flew to and from our Florida destination with Southwest and OH MY! Each trip was full of delays, cancelled flights and lost luggage. Such a frustrating way to begin and end a lovely trip!
The picture of you and your daughter is so sweet! What a special time!
Both you and Abby are so beautiful in this picture!
