All week it has felt like pure fall here in southern Arizona. Bliss! And when I slipped on these classic fall plaid pants and topped them with this soft cashmere sweater I knew autumn had come. That’s a good thing since I changed out my summer clothes for my cool weather clothes this past Saturday. Ha! Have you put away your summer things yet?

Classic Fall Pants and Soft Cashmere

I’ve been watching the plaid trend and wanting to hop on board, but just hadn’t found the garment I wanted. But I decided it was probably safe to order these classic fall plaid pants from Talbots because their pants generally fit me well. Still, I ordered both the regular fit and the curvy just in case. I’m pretty full in the hips, so the curvy sometimes work better for me.

But this time the regular fit worked fine. These straight leg, high waist pants are made of a 53% Cotton/40% viscose/7% spandex blend that allows for plenty of give, and they are amazingly comfortable. I like that they skim the leg, but don’t hug it.

When I saw these navy pants with the large pink and ivory plaid in the catalog and online, I assumed they were a heavy wool-like fabric. But in fact, the fabric is fairly lightweight and very soft. Honestly, I think it feels pretty luxurious. And I love that the pants are machine washable and can be line dried. I’m wearing the 8 regular, so I’d say they run true to size.

Talbots is finally reducing their fall line by 30% this Saturday for one day. But if you have a Talbots credit card you get to take advantage of the discount today. And since things are already running low in sizes, you might want to jump in there sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately, I noticed as I was writing this post that sizes are going fast in the regular fit of these pants, while they seem to have plenty of the curvy fit. But you also might like these black and ivory bi-stretch plaid pants. They come in the curvy fit, as well. They would look beautiful with a colored sweater or an ivory or black one.

I’ve also had very good experience with Talbots’ cashmere sweaters. The truth is all cashmere will eventually pill. I’d prefer, for the price you pay for it, if it didn’t, of course! But from what I’ve read, no matter how much you spend on your cashmere, it won’t last forever. Still, I can tell you that all of the Talbots cashmere sweaters I’ve purchased in the past have endured at least four seasons and often more.

I’m wearing Talbots’ Audrey cashmere pullover in light Hawthorne rose heather, which works perfectly with the pink stripe in these pants. But this crew neck sweater with three-quarter length sleeves comes in no fewer than ten additional shades. The greystone heather or ivory would look pretty with these pants, too.

Currently all Talbots tops, including their cashmere sweaters, are 30% off. In fact, Saturday everything is 30% off for a one day sale. (But Talbots Credit Cardholders get to enjoy a special preview day today when they can shop with their cards for 30% off everything.)

I added my favorite gold layering necklace (also available in silver) and these sparkling English garden stud earrings. These autumn stone earrings are another beautiful choice.

I carried my truffle colored structured satchel because, well, it’s about as classic as you can get. And that’s what this look is all about. So I finished it off with these indigo blue suede block heel pumps. I originally wanted these pumps in the Hawthorne rose shade, but they sold out fast. Still, I’ve included several other shoes in the pretty rose shade in the shopping widget below.

I’m totally in love with these plaid pants. In fact, I like them much more than I thought I would when I ordered them. But I’ve included some pretty plaid skirts in the shopping widget, too. I especially like this herringbone a-line skirt which features the same colors as in the pants.

What about you? Do you have any plaid in your closet for the fall? The thing I love about this trend is that it’s a play on a timeless classic. Like leopard print, it never really goes out of style. But right now, it’s hot. So while some trends are risky and not worth the investment, this one will stay in your closet for years to come.

Blessed for My Day

Do we have a part to play in the relationships of other people? You bet we do. Now I’m not recommending we become busybodies and meddle in things that truly are none of our business. But you and I have opportunities regularly when we can either agree with someone as they gripe and complain about a friend, spouse or mother-in-law or we can help them work toward reconciliation. We can encourage with truth and grace or we can just laugh and feed their self-pity. Let’s make a choice to be women who help others live at peace in their relationships. Yes, let’s listen compassionately. But then, rather than stirring the bottom of the pot, let’s usher in forgiveness, grace, peace and reconciliation.

I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to live in harmony in the Lord. Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. ~ Philippians 4:2-3
