Part of my goal here at Dressed for My Day is to encourage women to remain engaged, active and fashionable so we can be powerful and positive influencers in our world. Whether we work outside the home, are still raising kids, work from our homes or are retired, we are influencers. So let’s make sure we put our best foot forward and communicate with confidence, poise and authenticity. And sometimes that requires getting a little dressed up. Today I’m sharing a powerful work ensemble with soft edges. I think you’ll love this soft caramel sweater and check trousers.
My trousers are a soft polyester blend with a tiny brown, beige and black check pattern. They are very comfortable, but they do run long. I’m wearing the 8 regular, and I would probably need to hem these at least a half inch, even though I’m 5’8″ and wearing 2 1/2″ heels. (I rarely have to hem pants, so I’m a little spoiled that way.) The inseam on the regular is 33″, while the petite is 30″ and the tall is 36″.
At any rate, I do love these soft, but all-business trousers. They create a long, lean leg silhouette and are so very versatile.
My ribbed crew neck sweater is a cotton, acrylic, nylon and cashmere blend, and it is oh so soft. I think it is classic enough for the office, but would also look beautiful over jeans or corduroys.
I added a long tortoise linked necklace because I felt like the chunkiness of the sweater demanded an accessory with some heft to it. Mine is a few years old, but I found this comparable one at Talbots and this one at J. Crew Factory (about half the price). I also think this autumn floral silk scarf (also reduced) I wore in this post would look lovely with this sweater. It has the same caramel color in it. And if you’d prefer just a plain gold chunky necklace, this one would work nicely.
I like the addition of my leopard print foldover clutch to this otherwise classic and conservative ensemble. I think it adds a little interest while keeping the color scheme rich with caramel. By the way, I’m really enjoying this clutch. It’s really a perfect splash of leopard print if you’re still looking for a way to add just a little animal print to your wardrobe.
On my nails I’m wearing OPI Infinite Shine in Barefoot in Barcelona. It’s going to be my fall staple.
I considered wearing my leopard print block heels with this outfit, and I absolutely could have. But I was just hoping that the added height would raise the hem of the pants some. But they didn’t help, and I wanted to carry the leopard print bag really, so I wore my toasted sesame suede pumps instead. And of course they work perfectly. In fact, these pumps have been extremely versatile and I wear them often.
My pumps are not reduced in price right now, and they’re a little pricey at full amount. So I also found you these in the caramel or chai and these in the banana croc or caramel to consider if you’re wanting to shop this look. They’re both Naturalizers, and I’ve always had great luck with those.
I simply wore my little gold hoops (similar) in my ears. This is definitely an outfit where less is more.
Oh, one more thing. I went looking for comparable sweaters at lower price points and found some at Target and Lands’ End. Unfortunately the Target ones won’t show up in the shopping widget below. But you can check out my finds here, here and here. And I like this cozy donegal tunic sweater in cocoa from Lands’ End.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and received a little fashion inspiration from it. Like me, you may not need to dress up for work or meetings every day, but it doesn’t hurt us to spiff up every so often still. Putting on a pair of dressy trousers and heels reminds me that I’m a woman with influence, and I need to use that influence wisely.
One of the best ways we can use our influence today is by voting. I hope you’ll get to the polls and cast your vote if you haven’t already done so. And let’s remember to pray for our nation today, too. That’s definitely another great way to use our influence. Remember, you have a voice in the King’s throne room. You can’t get much more influential than that!
Have a blessed and beautiful day!
Blessed for My Day
As we vote for our leadership today and the decisions on our ballots, let’s also pray for our nation. Let’s pray for our current leadership – for wisdom to do the godly thing and courage to keep at it. Let’s also lift up our nation as a whole. Across the country we’re making decisions today that will impact us all. I’m praying for us to have a big picture perspective and not to vote selfishly or mindlessly. And let’s pray for peace in our land as the results begin to roll in. While our leaders certainly have great influence and power, we all have responsibility and a voice. I’m praying for cool heads to prevail and godliness to make its mark.
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. ~ Romans 13:1

Kay, I read your blog daily, mainly for the Blessed For My Day! I, of course, do enjoy your fashion too. You are beautiful inside and out. My question for Saturday’s Q&A is about your church. Would you be willing to share the name or location of the new church? I live in Columbus but visit Tucson (we lived there for years) every few months and would like to visit your church. I certainly understand if you’re not comfortable sharing that info. Thank you for considering it and for your daily posts.
Hi Lisa, I will gladly share more about my church in Saturday’s post. Thanks for asking!
Your outfit today is beautiful, as are you. I was wondering…..How do you decipher every year what is ‘fad’ or ‘trendy’ and whether or not to buy into it? We live on a fixed income so obviously I don’t ‘buy into’ most fads. That term is probably dating me! Ha! Anyway, I’ve taken your advice and that of a few other bloggers, if you want to wade into the ‘what’s on trend’ for this year….buy inexpensively! But money aside….how DO you know? I’ve stuck with the classic’s most of my life but don’t want to be dull either. Thanks Kay!
Hi Sondra, Great question! I’ll certainly cover that in Saturday’s post. Thanks!
What a classic outfit Kay!! I love how you added in the leopard clutch..it adds so much fun to the outfit!!
XOXO
