Hello, and welcome to Dressed for My Day. My goal here every day is simply to encourage and equip women 50+ (or in the ballpark!) to dress beautifully for your day – whatever it may hold – so that you can engage with those around you in an influential and positive way. Frankly, most of my days do not call for heels or pearls or dressy clothes. So while I enjoy styling those outfits for you, and I certainly wear them, too, today’s outfit is more in line with how I dress most days. This colorful striped cardigan and girlfriend jeans ensemble is just for fun. But it’s also engaging and pulled together. See what you think!
Even if I have nowhere to go, I’m prone to put on something like these jeans, t-shirt and cardigan. I want to feel comfortable and at home, but I like adding some bright colors and layers to my day, too.
I feel like I actually work more productively and feel in better spirits if I put on jeans and a colorful top rather than easing into joggers and a sweatshirt for another day.
And if I do need to get out to make a Target run or get a coffee with a friend, I’m all set to go.
Y’all, this red long sleeve t-shirt is a winner. Sometimes Talbots’ tees are too think and clunky feeling to me. But they got this one right. I wouldn’t call it a layering tee; it’s not that thin. But it has a nice lightweight feel and a soft hand. It fit easily under my cardigan. And this t-shirt comes in no fewer than sixteen colors! I’m pretty sure mine is the classic red, but the bright apple red is marked down and fully stocked. Cha-ching!
For reference, I’m wearing a small t-shirt and a small cardigan. My jeans are size 6 and they run TTS for jeans.
I realize this cardigan is an old-fashioned silhouette, but I like it. I’m just a button-up cardigan kind of gal, and I make no bones about it. Yes, I love the flowy open cardigans as well. But I just can’t get away from this classic silhouette. What about you?
This one is Talbots’ Zigzag Fair Isle Cardigan, and it has so many colors in it that you can easily wear it with most any color beneath. In fact, you could also make it look Christmasy, right?
Girlfriend jeans are a lot like the boyfriend jeans that seem to be losing favor (although I still wear mine!), but they fit a little closer to the body. I like that you can wear them full length – which is usually about ankle length – or you can roll them up for a more casual vibe.
These are from Talbots and they are significantly marked down right now. Yippee!
I’m wearing my butterfly pendant and chain from James Avery and my French wire twist earrings from Brighton. I’ve linked to some similar selections in the shopping widget below. I really love both James Avery and Brighton. Their silver pieces may be a little pricey, but they’re also timeless, sturdy and beautiful. I’ve worn mine for years…almost daily.
I’m carrying my Fiona Fossil crossbody bag, which my sweet daughter gave me a couple of years ago. But this bag is still available in this shade and newer colors, too.
And, alas, my shoes are soooo old. But, good news, I found lots like them to link to in the shopping widget below. I guess ballet flats just don’t go out of style. I’m not kidding; I’ve had these at least 15 years.
I love pieces like these that are casual and easy to wear, but make you feel pulled together and ready for the day. Remember, that’s my goal here. I want to keep us looking good so that we engage with our worlds with confidence and style. We’re all influential women, but we want to have a positive and powerful influence. Right?

Blessed for My Day
As we get dressed for our day today, let’s not forget to dress the inner woman, too. You know me. I’m all over putting on something pretty and fresh and colorful. But if our heart is not appropriately adorned with the fruit of the Holy Spirit, we will not leave a beautiful impression. So God calls us to put on a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in His sight. I don’t know about you, but those garments don’t just appear naturally in my inner woman. I have to cultivate them. How? By spending time in prayer, by reading my Bible daily and systematically, by spending time with other godly women and by daily practicing the discipline of confession and repentance. How do you adorn your heart with gentleness and a quiet spirit?
Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. ~ 1 Peter 3:3-4

Thanks, Jodie. And it’s funny, I’ve never met you in person, but I already know you have a beauty on the inside, too. Thanks so much for being such a gracious and supportive loyal reader!
I loved your post. I especially liked your 1 Peter scripture.
Thanks Rory. Yes, the 1 Peter scripture is a good one. Just also hard to live up to. Impossible with the Holy Spirit! Thanks for commenting. 🙂
