Maybe I’m living vicariously through this blog, but I just keep churning out holiday party looks. Ha! Actually, today is the last official holiday party look I have scheduled, but I think it’s also my very favorite. See how you like these velvet jeans and lace top for a holiday party. Oh, and think New Year’s Eve, not just Christmas!!
Much like the velvet blazer I featured in yesterday’s post, I consider these velvet jeans to be an investment piece that could ramp up your style for many holiday seasons to come. Perhaps they’re not quite as classic as the blazer, but they could definitely get more than limited play time. You don’t have to limit them to party-wear, by any means.
When I purchased these velvet jeans they were on a super markdown sale. Now they’re full price again, but if you’re interested and want to watch for them to go on sale again, be sure to “favorite” them in the shopping widget below. Truth is, I returned them because I decided I needed a different size, and they’re no longer available in that size. I’m wearing the “rich carmine.” They are extremely comfortable.
However, you’ll find plenty of beautiful velvet and velveteen jeans out there! I tried these on at Ann Taylor and liked them a lot. They seem to be fairly well stocked in both the modern and curvy fit, as long as you’re shopping for the regular or petite length, not so much the long. And the red raisin looks very similar to the color I’m wearing in this post. Love!
I also like these cropped velvet jeans at J. Crew, these NYDJ Jeans at Nordstrom Rack, and these high rise skinny jeans at Gap. And I’ve linked to other lower priced velvet jeans and pants in the shopping widget below. Look through it and the ones I just listed here (they’re not in the shopping widget) and shop the store or brand that tends to work best for you…and your budget!
This lace top is beautiful and pairs nicely with jeans, velvet jeans or other dress slacks. It does run a tad small, so you might want to size up to your higher size. I’m wearing the small, but it was a little snug across the shoulders for me. The top is 40% off with code FRIENDS40. I’ve included a few other options in the shopping widget below.
I returned this gold zip-top wristlet and I’m regretting it like crazy. At 40% off with code FRIENDS40, it would serve to upgrade any look, any season.
These are my faux suede pumps from Target. They also come in a wide width. And if you’d like to give Target shoes a try, but want a lower heel, you might consider these slingbacks.
I wanted you to see this velvet and lace ensemble with flats, too, because I know so many of you prefer them. It’s an equally elegant look. And if I were hosting people in my home rather than going out, I’d opt to wear my gold driving moccasins with this outfit for sure.
With all the rich textures in this outfit, I kept my accessories to a minimum. I’m wearing the poinsettia earrings and my gold shimmer bangle (also available in silver).
I think I like this holiday party look best of all the ones I’ve feature because it looks modern and a little edgy, but also very feminine and classic.

Blessed for My Day
Yesterday I read an interesting statement on another blog that stopped me in my tracks and I wanted to share it with you today. The woman was talking about motivating yourself to exercise and stay fit, but this wise instruction really pertains to any area of life where you may struggle with overcoming bad habits or thought patterns or with developing a new mindset. She simply encouraged us, “Don’t listen to yourself; talk to yourself.”
So often we throw our hands up in the air and give up on ourselves because the old thought patterns keep us in bondage. That nagging and naughty voice in our head says things like, “You’ll never be able to do this,” or “You mess this up every time,” or “You’re not smart (pretty, talented, friendly, etc.) enough to do this.” Don’t listen to yourself!
Instead, talk to yourself. Tell yourself, “You have to start somewhere and today’s a good place to begin. You can do this.” Or maybe, “Just take one step forward today and another the next. You can make progress here.” At a loss for what to say when you talk to yourself instead of listening to yourself? Start with the truth. God’s Word is full of truth about you. You are wonderfully made. You are created for good works. You are not alone. Every day is a fresh slate. What truth do you need to tell yourself today?
This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ~ Lamentations 3:21-23
I really like this outfit. I like it with the flats the best. I LOVE velvet jeans and have several pairs of them. I wear them to work with my cowboy boots.
Ha! I love that, Rory! Way to rock those velvet jeans!!
I love this outfit! I am fairly new to your blog and love all the wonderful things you share to inspire and encourage your readers! I, too, am working on finishing my Christmas shopping and we are also scaling back considerably this year! I hope to focus more on the true meaning for the season instead of having an over abundant amount of presents under the tree!
I hear you, Cathy! And I’m really enjoying the shift in focus so far. Thanks so much for leaving a comment and introducing yourself. Welcome to Dressed for My Day!
Gorgeous!! I love the color choices and you look stunning!!
