Hello, and welcome to Dressed for My Day! I had a full day away from home yesterday with a speaking engagement in the Phoenix area, so I’m posting a little late today. Plus, I’m keeping it simple for my sanity. Ha! But I hope something I share is of benefit to you, nonetheless. Today I’m sharing my January favorites.
It’s always interesting to me how these favorites tend to build around a unique theme each month. And during this cold winter month my favorites largely have to do with trying to keep my skin nourished and moisturized. Here in the desert that’s a constant battle, but especially during the winter months when the heater kicks on. The good news is that I’ve been more successful at that this year than ever, thanks to some of these favorites.
Another blogger recommended this Advanced Clinicals Retinol cream for keeping aging skin from becoming dry and crepey, especially during the winter months. Constantly on the search for something to keep my skin moister and youthful, I immediately ordered the two-pack of this salon size cream. And I haven’t regretted that decision at all.
In fact, as I have applied this thick advanced firming cream to my arms, chest and neck each morning for the past few weeks, I have noticed a visible and touchable difference. Usually the skin on the tops of my arms get very bumpy and scaley, especially during the winter. But this winter my skin has stayed very moisturized so I’ve seen no cracks or peeling. Also, the surface bumps on my arms have begun to shrink or disappear.
Plus the lines on my neck have greatly diminished. Hallelujah! I’m talking a huge difference here.
I apply this Advanced Clinicals cream every morning after showering to my arms, chest and neck.
By the way, you can also apply this cream to your face, and I did for a couple weeks with visible difference there, too. But then I purchased another product for my face that I’ll tell you about in a minute.
This CeraVe SA Cream has become my go-to night cream for my face, arms, chest and neck. Because it contains an alpha hydroxy acid that can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun, I use it at night.
The salicylic acid exfoliates and softens my rough skin, the lactic acid also exfoliates and renews the skins surface and the cream has a special delivery technology that controls release and provides for lasting hydration. Sure enough, I wake up in the morning with my skin feeling like I had just applied moisturizer.
This cream goes on very smooth and really stretches. You don’t need to apply much to feel and notice the benefits. Honestly, both the CeraVe and the Advanced Clinicals Retinol have worked amazingly for me. They have definitely earned permanent spots in my skincare routine.
While the CeraVe has definitely worked wonders for me on both my body and my face, I still wanted a night cream that moisturized a little more. The CeraVe goes on very thin and light. I just like to put on something thick at night. Maybe that’s just a silly, personal preference. But that’s me!
But at the same time, I didn’t want to spend what I had been spending on the Lancome cream I had used before. So I decided to try this Neutrogena Deep Moisture Night Cream. I’ve always had such good luck with Neutrogena before (I use the Neutrogena Rainbath in the shower.)
I don’t know that it’s the best night cream I’ve ever used, but it’s definitely getting the job done when combined with the CeraVe. So I’m sticking with it. The Neutrogena Night Cream goes on smooth and luxuriously, and I awaken in the morning feeling still moisturized.
Because I don’t use the Advanced Clinicals Retinol on my face, but just my neck, chest and arms, I decided to give this Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair moisturizer a try. This is the one you may have seen Jennifer Garner advertise on television. For some reason, she sold me! Ha!
The advertisements promise you’ll see noticeable difference in just a week. And y’all! I definitely saw noticeable improvement in the texture of my skin and some significant wrinkles in even less than a week. I’m pretty amazed. I’m hooked. I also like the price of this treatment compared to the department store brands.
While I’m talking moisturizing products, I thought I’d go ahead and share this final beauty product from my list of January favorites. I bought this Lancome lipstick because it promised to hydrate my lips. I desperately need that!
And it has delivered. I’ve been using the Coquette (326), and it goes on luxuriously, stays on for hours and keeps my lips feeling moist. It’s pricey, but I’m tired of lipsticks that dry my lips out, so it’s worth it to me.
Okay, moving on from skin care. I purchased these Naturalizer sneakers simply because I really do love a slip on shoe. While I’ve definitely enjoyed my Teva sneakers and continue to wear them weekly, I wanted the slip on option, too. You can see me wearing these in this post.
These sneakers don’t disappoint. Like most Naturalizers, they feel comfortable and look smart. I really enjoy the neutral shade, too.
I guess in January I gravitate toward comfort foods and comfortable clothes, ha! I revealed in this post that I wear these and other athleisure styles quite often when I work from home. In fact, as I hastily type this post this morning, I’m wearing these easy, comfortable joggers.
These pants feel amazingly soft on. I guess it’s the recycled polyester fabric from which they’re made. They’re also plenty long for my long legs, and that’s no small thing to me. So many joggers end up being capri joggers on me!
This week I began taking a Bible study with a group of women in my community. We’re using Max Lucado’s book Anxious for Nothing. This book isn’t really a Bible study, but it is based on Philippians 4:4-8, and we’re using the study questions in the back of the book to prompt our study.
At any rate, this is a great book! I love Max Lucado’s writing, and he doesn’t disappoint here. You know, so many women especially suffer with anxiety. I think we just tend to take the weight of the world on our shoulders. At least the weight of our worlds – our spouse, our kids, our parents, etc. Someone told us that the hand that rocks the cradle rocks the world…and we took it to mean we also have to hold the world together!
If you struggle with feelings of anxiety or even the malaise of constant anxiety, I highly recommend Anxious for Nothing. If you’ve never read any of Lucado’s books before, you’ll find that he is a gentle soul with words of wisdom.
My final item on my list of January favorites is this chambray shirt that I received in my last Trunk Club trunk. I really purchased it with spring in mind, but I’m already enjoying it so much.
I’m pairing this chambray shirt with my white jeans, camo pants (25% off with code SALETIME) and colored jeans. I wear it with a tank underneath or by itself. What have I been doing without it???

Do you have friends who are older and younger than you? I have to say, I really enjoy my time with both older and younger women. There’s so much to be gained either way.
From my older friends I learn wisdom. But from my younger friends I am gain perspective, too. They remind me to be grateful for the journey the Lord has brought me through thus far. They keep me current, too. I like to think that I contribute something to my older and younger friends, but mainly I like to listen when I’m in their presence.
In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered. ~ Titus 2:3-5
I always check out any skincare I’m considering on the Environmental Working Group website because I have an autoimmune disease. You might be interested to look up the “Neutrogena Deep Moisture Night Cream” at https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/
I thought that book was great!
Catching up on your posts today! Do you find that the Naturalizers run true to size? Thanks for the roundup.
Hello Sheila. Yes, I just checked mine. I’m wearing my usual 9.5 and they fit to size. Thanks for reading. 🙂
Hi Kay, I wanted to try the Lancomb lipstick but can’t seem to find a crushed rose on the link. Do you have a number maybe? Thanks 🙂
Oh my! I was looking at the wrong lipstick when I wrote that post. In that lipstick I have the Coquette. I have the rose shade in a different Lancôme. Not nearly as lush. Yes, the one I love is the Coquette. I’m so glad you caught this. I’ll fix it. And it is a rosy color, at least on me.
