Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope your week was a good one and that you have some good plans for the weekend. I’ve been in Florida most of the week with my parents, and I still have a few more days to enjoy with them. We’ve played golf, walked the beach and eaten lots of delicious seafood.

And yesterday we did a little shopping at the Premium Outlet Mall in St. Augustine, so I thought I’d share my try-on session at J. Crew Factory with you today. Here’s the great news. Now through Tuesday, J. Crew Factory has all full price items marked down 50%. PLUS they have select items marked down another 20% ONLINE ONLY through the 17th with the code SAVEMORE.

That’s why I can’t wait to show you what I found. Let’s get started.

Sizing Information

I’m 5’8″ and 150 pounds with a curvy body shape and balanced proportions. I normally wear size 8 in pants, size 6 in jeans, smalls and mediums in tops and an 8 in dresses and jackets. I wear a 9.5 shoe with average width.

What I Found at J. Crew Factory

First of all, let me tell you that I had to size up or wear my higher size in most everything I tried at J. Crew Factory. So keep that in mind.

This cotton elephant sweater is so soft. I think it’s a fun embroidered print, and the sweater is a classic fit. I’m wearing a medium. This lightweight sweater makes a great wear-now/ wear-later transition piece and goes well with jeans.

I’m wearing the elephant sweater with the 10″ highest rise jeans with button fly. I found them to be very comfortable, but I did size up to a size 8 (they didn’t have a 6 in the store). These jeans have a raw step hem…very trendy. They’re definitely a good buy with the sale discounts.

I finished this pairing off with these Edie leather loafers. They’re black with off white piping, made out of a soft leather and extremely comfortable. They fit true to size, and I think these are a great buy with the discounts. So versatile.

Next I switched into the heather quartz cotton teddie sweater. Also 100% cotton and quite lightweight, this is a great transitional top you can wear now and later. The sweater comes in 8 different pretty shades. I’m wearing a medium. It pairs nicely with the button fly jeans and the Edie leather loafers, this time in deep blush with black piping.

In the photo above you can see the button fly on the jeans. I love that these jeans don’t ride up in the legs and fit flush to my legs instead of wrinkling up a lot. And the high waist feels good and flatters the tummy area.

These white jeans are a nice weight of denim and very comfortable. I generally size up in white jeans, so I tried the 8 here, and they worked well. They have an 8″ rise and a 28″ inseam. If you’re looking for white jeans, these are a great buy at this reduced price.

I’m wearing the white jeans with the leather loafers and this printed v-neck three-quarter sleeve top. The sheer fabric features navy and coral colored flowers. Neither the picture here nor the one on the J. Crew Factory website do this pretty blouse justice. It was definitely one of my favorite pieces that I tried on. Delicate, pretty and so, so soft.

However, I’m looking at this picture and realizing that what they call a three-quarter sleeve is definitely longer than 3/4 length. So keep that in mind. And I have long arms.

What J. Crew Factory calls the “le weekend” sweatshirt felt more like a lightweight sweater to me. It’s definitely not your typical sweatshirt. I’m wearing a medium. I love, love, love this piece.

And you can see it in the next photo with this fun navy and white lightweight scarf.

Don’t you love this combo? The white jeans, navy “le weekend” sweatshirt (sweater), navy and white scarf and blush pink pinstriped loafers? Darling!

Because I’m really into navy this spring, I tried on this striped navy and ivory tie-waist pocket tee with the white jeans next. This is a very comfortable, soft t-shirt that hangs so nicely. It’s also available in white and heather grey. The tie at the waist adds a nice touch of interest.

For a little more interest, I tried this classic combo with these leopard print d’Orsay flats. I’m wearing the 9.5 and they fit true to size. Quite comfortable, but no arch support at all.

I had seen this red floral faux wrap skirt several times online and wanted to love it. But I didn’t. Maybe it would have looked better with my chambray shirt knotted at the waist. Also, I neglected to pull any shoes to try with this skirt, so that might have made a difference. The skirt features a pull-on elastic waistband, and I’m wearing a medium very comfortably.

I do like the navy perfect fit open-neck t-shirt. It’s available in six basic colors, like pink, white and black, too. I’m wearing a medium. The neckline is universally flattering and I love the fitted silhouette.

I do think this skirt perked up a little with the addition of this denim jacket. I’m wearing the white perfect fit tee beneath a medium jacket. Every gal needs a good denim jacket, and this one would definitely fit the bill. Watch for an X ways to wear a denim jacket post sometime this spring.

Shifting gears a little, I tried on these navy print winnie pants, available in three solids as well. I had to size up to a 10 in these pants and still felt like they looked a little skin tight. I think it’s a darling print, and if your legs are skinny the silhouette could definitely look beautiful on you. The fabric is nicely thick and they have a lot of stretch.

I also added these cute Anya leather ballet flats to the winnie pant, white perfect tee and denim jacket combination. These shoes fit true to size and are constructed of a soft, supple leather in a sweet ballet shoe puddy pink.

And then I just switched out the white perfect fit tee with the pink one.

So that’s a wrap. I think some of these are great basics for spring that you could use through summer. Others, like the sweaters, are pieces you could start wearing now and continue using through spring.

You can shop all of these looks in the widget below. Plus I’ve added a few other of my favorites.

I also thought I’d share with you what I’ve been wearing while in Florida. The weather has been all over the place. But these chinos have worked brilliantly with a variety of tops. I’ve worn my white t-shirt under my denim jacket, but I’ve also paired these pretty pink pants with my navy and white striped 3/4 sleeve tee, my chambray top and a navy striped tee. And I’ve worn my navy penny loafers, my white sneakers and my Naturalizer slip on sneakers shown here.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the post. If you have any questions, please let me know. I often accidentally leave out a size here and there in these try-on sessions. But I want to help you shop easily and efficiently. Thanks so much for spending part of your weekend here at Dressed for My Day.

Blessed for My Day

Yesterday as I was walking along the beach it occurred to me that God’s love is so like the ocean water that was crashing into the shoreline. It’s abundant, never-ceasing and constant. It’s also a force to be reckoned with, powerful and life-giving. In the same way His faithfulness will never cease.

No, none of what God offers us freely will ever dry up. We can never “out need” His generosity. His grace will never run dry. So the God who has seen us through all of our yesterdays faithfully and well will be here to provide everything we need today and in the future. We can rest in that faithfulness, sister. That’s good news.

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

xoxo, Kay

  1. Hi Kay – I do have a question on those chinos from Talbots you’ve been wearing. Do they tend to get baggy as you’re wearing them? I have a cute pair from Loft I purchased last year that look very similar, but they get so baggy in the rear end by the end of the day and look ridiculous. I’d love to get your thoughts on these from Talbots.

Love the Le Weekend sweatshirt! I think I’ll be ordering that one!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Sue ?. Well it’s hard to say about the chinos. In my experience chinos generally have a looser fit than say jeans. So mine are not snug, and I like them that way. But I don’t think they have stretched out with wear too much. Maybe a little, but not so much that I am anxious to wash them. In the photo here I’m wearing them for probably the third time without washing them. So maybe that helps you to see. I think they hold their shape nicely. And I have had some Loft chinos before that stretched out too much too, so I know what you are talking about. I’m really enjoying these. I bought the white ones, too. Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. What a beautiful BFMD! I have never shopped at JCrew Factory, so I’m glad that you shared some of their items with us. I am looking for a nice white tee to wear under spring cardigans. It looks like the sleeves of the one you tried on would work under a fitted cardigan sleeve. I’m one of the lucky ones that has to have arch support in all of my shoes, so thank you for mentioning that one style you shared does not have it. Enjoy the rest of your visit with your parents. God bless!
