Spring Forward Try-On Session

Happy Saturday! Tomorrow is the day that most of the country springs forward or turns the clock forward an hour. Here in Arizona, we don’t participate. So for me tomorrow is the day that the rest of my family becomes an additional hour ahead of me, making them two and three hours ahead of me in their day. We all have to adjust to the new time difference, and usually we all make the mistake of calling each other too early or too late at some point. Hahaha!

Spring Forward Try-On Session

Interestingly, a number of retailers are hosting significant sales commemorating the “spring forward weekend.” So I thought I’d share a few try-on sessions featuring clothes that are marked down this weekend. I’m sharing finds from Gap, Banana Republic and Talbots, but you’ll also find significant savings at Ann Taylor, Loft, J. Crew, J. Jill and Chico’s.

Gap

Gap has 1000s of styles (really?? 1000s?) marked down up to 50% and if you shop online you get an extra 20% off with code HOORAY. So hooray!!

I’d been wanting to try the new full leg cropped jeans and pants, so I purchased some this week to try at home. First up the jeans with a simple v-neck tee in one of my signature colors.

vintage wash v-neck t-shirt in pink city (looks red) // high rise wide-leg crop jeans // leather Keds (from Kohl’s) // palm adjustable necklace

I sized up in these high rise wide-leg crop jeans. I normally wear a 6 in jeans, but these are an 8 and fit well. They don’t have a lot of stretch in them. That’s why I knew to size up. They feel good and move well though.

I also sized up to a large in the v-neck t-shirt. I just find that sometimes Gap sizes run a little small on me. I think they size to the teenage body really. I could have worn the medium, which is still a size up for me, but I wanted a roomier fit.

My sneakers are a recent purchase from Kohl’s. They’re the new Keds Courty leather sneakers, and I think they’re very on trend and comfortable. I’ve seen much pricier sneakers out there that have caught my eye, but these have the same rounded appeal and they’re much more affordable. Plus I got $10 Kohl’s cash when I purchased them, and you will, too.

I also got these high-rise wide-leg cropped chinos at Gap. I’ll probably only keep one of these wide-leg pants, but wanted to try both. I’m leaning toward these because I think I’ll get more wear with them. I like them with my chambray shirt, but they’d also be great with the v-neck tee. In fact I bought another v-neck tee in the black and white stripe.

In the chinos I’m also wearing the size 8, but that’s normal for me in chinos. They’re comfortable and very stylish. It really just depends on whether or not you like the wide leg. I kinda do.

Gap has this lightweight perfect denim shirt that would create the same look I’m showing here.

If my selections aren’t your cup of tea, you might want to check out what else Gap is offering right now. They really have some great casual spring finds. And other items are marked down more significantly than the ones I showed.

Banana Republic

When I left Gap they alerted me to the Friends & Family sale at Banana Republic, their sister store. So I headed over there next. I actually liked what I found at Banana Republic even better. More my style, honestly.

But since I’d just purchased so much at Gap, I only walked out with this one pairing.

Spring Forward Try-On Session Banana Republic
mid-rise crop flare jean // boat-neck t-shirt // leather Keds

I love these mid-rise crop flare jeans. The only thing that would make them better in my book is a higher rise. I’m loving high-rise jeans these days. But these sit at a very comfortable place on my waist, too, so I’m not complaining. I didn’t do a rearview shot, but they have small enough back pockets to keep your derriere from looking large or wide.

While the wide-leg crops are in, so are these straighter flared crops, and I think these are more wearable. And more slimming. Don’t you agree? I also like the button-fly. Very on trend and youthful. Oh, and these jeans have more stretch in them, so I’m wearing my normal 6.

I paired the jeans with this fresh red and white stripe slub cotton-modal tee, which comes in several other colors and combinations. In fact, for some reason, the red and white is the most expensive, while the others are all considerably less. Go figure. I always pick out the most expensive of anything!

But remember, most everything at Banana Republic is 50% regular prices with code BRFAMILY, AND if you have a Gap, Old Navy or Banana Republic credit card, you get an additional 10% off.

Talbots

Much of what I’ve shown on the blog recently has been from Talbots, including the dress, trench coat and blazer from yesterday’s post and the striped t-shirt from Wednesday’s post. This weekend, everything at Talbots is 30% off, including marked down items. So the dress and trench coat are already marked down, but now you get another 30% off. This is the time to buy!

This week I participated in a spring style event at the Tucson Talbots, so I thought I’d share the two outfits they put me in there.

Spring Forward Try-On Session Talbots 02
floral pencil skirt // striped bateau-neck sweater // aberdeen knit blazer in cactus rose // nappa leather sandals // two-way pebble leather crossbody bag

The floral pencil skirt is a personal favorite. It has a black background, but I love it with a chambray shirt or classic white shirt. I’m wearing the 8, so it’s true to size. To be brief, the sweater is lightweight and TTS, the blazer is TTS and the sandals are comfy and TTS. The handbag, which you can barely see is lovely and the color is very trendy and pretty.

Spring Forward Try-On Session Talbots 01
girlfriend chinos in chambray // yellow gingham ruffle neck popover // casual drawcord jacket in navy polka dot // soft pebbled leather belt in indigo // enamel bangle // pebble leather & woven crossbody bag // Ryan loafers in indibo/ivory gingham

The theme of the style show was mixing patterns, so you can see that the stylist held nothing back with this combination. I think it’s darling, but I don’t know that I would have thought to pair all of this up on my own. Everything runs true to size for me. The jacket has a cinch cord underneath, which is a nice feature. I own several pairs of these chinos, but not these particular ones. I love them.

Oh, and I apologize for the blurry photo!

Remember, your entire purchase at Talbots is 30% off, and that includes markdowns.

Other sales worth checking out

At Ann Taylor you’ll get 40% off everything with code FRIENDS40.

Likewise, at Loft you get 40% off your purchase with code NEWNOW.

J.Jill is giving you 30% off your entire purchase with code MARCH19, plus cardholders get another 5% off as usual.

At Chico’s you’ll get 40% off your purchase with code 58835.

Nordstrom has new items on their sale listings.

Old Navy has a buy more/get more sale with 20% off any purchase, 30% off a purchase of $75 or more and 40% off a purchase of $100 or more. Plus, jeans are 50% off.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Maybe the weather will perk up and begin looking more like spring? We’ll see. I guess we’re technically still in winter anyhow. But make it a good one, ladies! And let me know if you have any questions about today’s post.

Blessed for My Day

Have you ever bemoaned the fact that God doesn’t seem to be answering your prayers? I certainly have. At times it appears that God is working in everyone else’s life, but He’s forgotten about me. Of course, nothing is further from the truth. In fact, God is always at work on our behalf. But often we can’t see what He is doing. And if He were to explain it to us, it would blow our minds!

Today let’s trust that God is doing something…even if we can’t see it or imagine it.

Look among the nations, and see;
    wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told. ~ Habakkuk 1:5

xoxo, Kay

  1. I her ya about the time change. My brother and sis-in-law used to live in Arizona, I’m in NJ. It seemed as soon as I got the time difference straight it changed! ??‍♀️ They’re in the same time zone now. Cute spring outfits!

  2. Love the time change & your outfits are adorable! My favorite is the very last pic with the printed shoes.

  3. Cute outfits! I can see the floral skirt with a white or chambray shirt. How fun. My style is more Banana Republic then Gap as well, even though I like both.

    1. Thanks! Yes, that would definitely be my preference. You know, sometimes I like Gap clothes a lot, but it’s hit or miss for me. Thanks for sharing…and for reading!

    1. Hi Sharon! Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here. I have a lot of readers in their 80s. I absolutely try to share fashions that are appropriate for you, too. But I’m sure my taste won’t always fit your tastes or your needs. I need to get my mom to do a photo shoot sometime and let her share an outfit. Unfortunately I live quite a ways from her. 2,000 miles! But I’ll have to work on that!
