Welcome gals! Yesterday in Bible study the leader asked us to begin our time by going around the circle and sharing our favorite spring flower. I said tulips, but every time I woman would mention another flower I’d want to change my answer. Haha! Are you like that, too? Honestly, I just love so many flowers that brighten the landscape during spring. Maybe you’d like to share your favorite spring bloom in the comments below. That would be fun! But first, let’s check out this simple stripe midi skirt ensemble. It’s perfect for walking through the botanical gardens this time of year.

I’ve wanted a cotton jersey knit midi skirt like this for years, but just got this one recently. Having always admired them on other women, I thought it would be perfect for vacation, but also for home or running errands on a normal day.

Right now I definitely need a jacket or cardi with the skirt. I love this pale pink denim jacket for pairing with simple skirts, jeans, chinos or even shorts later on. It’s not especially heavy and has some stretch in it, too. I especially love the light, light pink.

All three of these pieces – the skirt, tee and jacket – are basic enough that I’ll be able to mix and match them with so many things in my modern classic wardrobe.

Yep. Still loving this simple white tee. I also bought the red one, and I’ll be pairing it with this navy and white midi skirt, as well. You could also wear a green, yellow, orange or pink tee with this simple skirt.

I had originally ordered a medium in the skirt, but sent it back for a small. I think you want a skirt like this to fit comfortably, but close to the body. I’ve provided several other midi and maxi length skirt options in the widget below, too.

The skirt feature an elasticized waist band with a true drawstring, too. I enjoy the front slash pockets and the slit at the sides of the hemline. I don’t feel like the pockets add any visual weight or size since they lay flat to the body.

I picked up these darling pink sandals in the recent Michael Kors Spring Sale. They’re also available in black. The sandals feature a very cushy padded sole for sweet comfort.

While I love these dainty pink sandals, I have a feeling I’ll be wearing my Keds with this skirt a good bit, too.

Another Michael Kors Spring Sale purchase, this pale pink rose studded camera bag is perfect for carrying the essentials. It’s still marked down, but I got an extra 25% off during the spring sale. Ladies, whatever handbag brand you prefer, you definitely need to sign up for that brand’s emails and notices. But you can also shop Nordstrom Rack and Nordstrom sale pages for great handbag deals.

And you can share it with your friends on Facebook, too. Just use the “spread the love” social media buttons below. Thanks so much. When you pin and share, it helps other women like you discover Dressed for My Day!

And don’t forget to share with me your favorite spring flower!

Blessed for My Day

As much as I love tulips and other spring flowers, they never bloom long enough for my liking. They lose their vibrancy quickly and fade completely over time. But the Word of the Lord does not fade or lose its vibrancy. In fact, my experience is that the longer I walk this earth the more vibrant and penetrating God’s Word becomes in my life. It not only delights my heart, but it pierces it, guards it, directs it and even changes it.

Definitely share your favorite flower with me. I’d love to know what flowers you enjoyed as you walked this morning or the blooms that are growing in your own yard. But I’d also love it if you’d share with us all a scripture that is vibrant in your heart and mind right now. What verse from the Bible is blooming in your heart today?

“The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever.” ~ Isaiah 40:8

  1. Beautiful combo Kay!!! My favorite flower is a daisy. I have so many favorite scriptures. I will say Romans 8:28 has spoke to me for a long time now. ~Lisa~

    1. Yes, I’ve clung to Romans 8:28 for some time. And it has proven to be true over and over. Praise the Lord! Thanks for sharing, Lisa.

  2. Right now I am loving the first signs of forsythia bushes. The vibrant yellow is so pretty and since they are the first to flower, they promise more flowers to bloom later on. Favorite scripture? I would say the 23rd Psalm. Saying or singing the words always bring a serene peacefulness.

    1. Yes, I do love that vibrant yellow, too. And the promise of more… That’s a lovely thought. Thanks so much for sharing, Eva.

  3. Your post every day is always so revelant to what I have going on in my life. Thanks for your ministry. This verse always speaks to me: Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need. Hebrefs 4:16 ESV

    1. Ah, yes. That is a beautiful, powerful scripture, isn’t it? I love the grace of God and the fact that Jesus has made a way for us to enter God’s presence in our times of need. Beautiful!

  4. Hi Kay,
I am a recent follower and am so glad I came across your blog. It is so reassuring when we see and hear from others that are so similar to ourselves. I enjoy your fashion tips. I am a faithful Talbots customer and love to see how others fashion their clothing. A lot of the time I think, “what a great way to wear that”. I enjoy your scripture sharing also. It is almost always one of the first things I read every morning. Thank you.

    1. Hi Jane. And welcome to Dressed for My Day! I’m so glad you found your way here. I’m glad you mentioned that you enjoy shopping Talbots. I guess it really is my go-to store, and I try to make sure I offer a balance of merchandise from other brands here, too. And I’m with you on styling it other ways. My Talbots had a style show or trunk show about a month ago where a stylist showed other ways to style things. So helpful! But that’s exactly how I see what I do here at DFMD – I try to show you other ways to style clothing in other ways than it’s shown in the catalogs or websites – not just for Talbots, but for other brands as well. Thanks for the feedback and warm comments.

    1. Yes, those are beautiful scriptures, Joan. And geraniums are beautiful all summer, aren’t they? Thanks so much for sharing.

    1. How wonderful! I haven’t actually bought any tulips yet, so I may have to rectify that today. They do cheer things up!

  5. I received purple roses from my husband this week. He knows how much I love purple. My most referenced verse is Psalm 23:4, always helps me through anxiety. I like the skirt!

    1. How wonderful to receive such unusual blooms from your husband this week! And I love Psalm 23:4, too. Blessings to you!

    1. Yes!!! I love dogwood blossoms, too. In fact, I grew up on Dogwood Drive, and we always had lots of dogwood trees in our yard. One was right outside my bedroom window. Dogwood trees are one of the things I miss the most about not living in Georgia. I especially love the pink dogwoods. 🙂

  6. Good morning, Kay! Love the casual skirt; looks comfortable and cute! Jonquils have always been my favorite flower.
Psalm 90:17: Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us…

  7. Love the skirt. Think it would be great for my pear shape (doesn’t look too full). Will probably wait for it to go on sale, though. I do also love tulips. My hubby works for his family’s flower farm so sometimes he brings home the “throw-aways” – the bunches that might have a small flaw so they can’t sell to the florists. I love getting the “throw-aways” because they’re still beautiful and it reminds me that God can still use us, despite our flaws! He doesn’t throw us away because of our sin, but He accepts and welcomes us into the joy of His salvation when we ask His forgiveness! Sometimes I might pick off a bad petal or leaf from the throw-aways, and sometimes God has to pick apart my life so I can draw closer to Him. 🙂

    1. Absolutely wait for the sale, Anita! And I think Talbots is giving 30% off everything to Classic Awards members April 5-9. So check back with me Friday.
How wonderful that you get all those “throw-aways!” I bet you’re able to make them look beautiful!

  8. I like Lilac wild flowers. Naps really do work! Also yesterday I came to the conclusion that this year I am leaning toward the monochromatic color scheme for myself. So I will wear emerald necklace with a olive t-shirt for example with jeans. I like your skirt with white t-shirt. The pink jacket would cut me in half too much, so I would go with darker blue jacket. I am only 5’3 so that’s why I probably had this thought come into my head.

    1. You know, someone yesterday said they love lilacs, too. I’m not even sure what those are. I’ll have to look them up.

I do love a monochromatic look. And it really does slenderize and add height. So smart thinking!!

  9. Spring is my very favorite time of the year…I love so many different flowers…wild violets, daisies, Jonquils, peonies, cherry blossoms, dogwood blossoms, azaleas, but my most favorite is the iris! Thank you for being a breath of fresh air with your pretty outfits & words of encouragement, Kay!
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16)

    1. Ahh, I know how much you love spring and flower, Anita! I know you come by that naturally, too! Thanks so much for reading and sharing. I needed that scripture today. Like I said in my email, I’ve grown a little tired…and it’s really more of a losing heart. So thank you for sharing that good word.

  10. Hi Kay, I love everything about this outfit, it looks absolutely darling on you! My favorite flower is the begonia, I love flowers that bloom beautifully in the shade. My favorite verse is Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” So many times I have had to step back from my circumstances, and just stop, breathe, and remind myself that I am not the one that is really in control. I need to just stop, be quiet and listen. Have a blessed day!

    1. Hi Cindy. Yes, begonias are lovely. I think they are one of my mom’s favorites. At least she always has them growing in pots around her house. And we all need to be reminded daily that He is God…and we are not! Right! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Love your outfit and that bag is so cute! My favorite flower is the Peony. In my devotions this morning the focus was on 1 Peter 5:7 “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” I always need to be reminded of that!

    1. Hi DeAnn! I love peonies, too. Believe it or not, I didn’t discover them until I was almost 30. But they’re so lush and beautiful! I’ve been doing a “Bible study,” really a book study on Max Lucado’s book Anxious for Nothing. So that scripture really resonates with me, too. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Bluebonnets are my favorite right now as they are so prolific this year and of course our state flower. Just living these cool dry mornings for my walk with the lord and the bluebonnets are everywhere. My favorite scripture is “Be anxious for nothing but in everything with prayer and thanksgiving present your requests to the lord and the peace of God that passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus “. Probably misquoted but it’s what I crave. Peace.

    1. Ah, yes. I miss the bluebonnets! We lived in Texas for many years, and we have beautiful photos of my kids sitting amidst the bluebonnets! And the Indian Paintbrush! My husband just finished preaching through Philippians a few weeks ago, so those verses came alive for me! I love God’s plan for anxiety-free living! It really rests in knowing who He is and leaning into Him. Thanks so much for sharing, Wanda!

  13. My favorite blooms at this time of year are the little grape hyacinths that are lining my front sidewalk. But cheerful daffodils are a close second! The verse I am leaning on right now- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

  14. Daisy’s are always a favorite for me but I love tulips this time of year as well. My favorite verse is Romans 4:21. God has the power to keep all His promises. Enjoy your blog so very much! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Donna. I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. I do like daisies, too! Thanks for sharing a favorite scripture!

  15. Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
Like to keep a vase of mixed flowers to brighten my days. Another pretty pink jacket.

  16. Like you I absolutely love flowers but hands-down my favorites are Gladiolias. My grandfather always planted those in their yard and I can still see them against the fence in the back of their property These many years later!

My scripture, which helps me keep my focus, is Matthew 22:37-40. Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Laws and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
