Happy Friday! Do you have big plans for this spring weekend? I am looking forward to a day filled with family tomorrow. We are celebrating and memorializing my dear Uncle Gus’ life tomorrow, and we are expecting a LOT of my extended family to be here for the memorial service and afterwards. I’m so excited to see these folks! I’ll be dressing up for the service, but I imagine afterwards I’ll slip into something like these embroidered girlfriend jeans.
The girlfriend jean is a slightly more fitted version of the boyfriend jean you may have hanging in your closet from the past few years. It provides a leaner silhouette with a slightly slimmer leg. This spring embroidery is popping up on denim, but I like a more understated embellishment rather than a more colorful or shiny one. This is purely my own style choice, but I find that a little bling goes a long way for an older woman.
Since my jeans are embellished, be it ever so subtle, I chose to pair them with a fairly simple top. This Hampton Linen Sweater from Talbots offers a rounded hem that hits below the hip line, for a casual look. The fabric is soft and breathable, so I’ll be able to wear it through the summer. And I think the ties at the ends of the three-quarter length sleeves add just the right amount of interest. The sweater is also available in yellow and two shades of blue.
My Universal Thread peep toe heels are from Target. I could wear flats with these jeans just as easily, but sometimes I just want a more grown-up and sophisticated look from my jeans. In fact, I really like the juxtaposition of wearing relaxed fit jeans with heels. What do you think?
I love a cross-body bag with a casual jean ensemble. And this round purse adds a modern detail that is really on trend right now. Mine is from Target and doesn’t appear to be available right now. But I found this wicker circle bag from Urban Outfitters, and I really like it even better.
I think a solid sweater like this begs for some accessorizing, but I wanted to keep it simple, not fussy. I think this floral cluster pendant long necklace does the trick. It draws interest away from my neck (a helpful trick for those of us with signs of aging around the neck) but doesn’t distract from the overall look. Also, it provides a sweet nod to the floral embroidery on my jeans.
I do love bright pink with blue denim. To me it keeps the appeal soft and feminine, adding a touch of brightness as well.
I think you can see the embroidered detail on the girlfriend jeans best in this photo. There’s just this cluster at the top of my left leg and another simple cluster of embroidered flowers above the cuffed hem of the right leg.
You can shop this look with the “widget” below. But I’d also love it if you’d leave me a note in the comments section. Let me know what kind of jeans you prefer to wear. And tell me about your plans for the weekend. I do hope you have a wonderful one!
I’m linking up with Sharing a Journey and Jo-Lynne Shane this week. Y’all, these are some great fashion bloggers. You’ll want to check out all the great blogs there.
Blessed for My Day
Peace sometimes seems evasive, out of reach. But God promises to give us peace if we will simply keep our minds focused on Him. That’s hard to do if my mind is buzzing with conversations, worries, ideas and fears. I think that to keep my mind focused on Him means to recall His past acts of faithfulness, to reflect on His words of promise and assurance and to recite His character. It’s a discipline really. But it works!
You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. ~ Isaiah 26:3

I think it’s the details that make this look more elevated than just jeans and a t-shirt!! It’s the perfect casual outfit for any of us!!
Enjoy the memorial. As sad as it is to see them go, I always come back learning something new from the event.

Hi Kay!
I just bought a pair of boyfriend jeans at Chico’s… although I’m 5’7” I bought my size in Petits. I like my capris to be shorter on my legs.
I have found the AMANDA jeans by Gloria Vanderbilt to fit me perfectly. I found them at SEARS.
You look great Kay and I’m happy to hear you are surrounded by family.
