Hello, and welcome to Dressed for My Day. Yesterday I posted about the styling magic of the v-neck shirt and today I’m wearing a shirred jewel neck. Go figure! But I couldn’t resist pairing this easy-breezy flutter sleeve top with my new summer wardrobe staple: my black shorts.
Maybe I’m carrying this Building a Wardrobe that Works for You series too seriously, but I insist on staying true to its principles even with my summer wardrobe. That’s why I’ve decided to minimize and streamline my purchases even when all the pretty spring and summer colors are calling to me. Ha!
That’s why I’m limiting myself to white, black and denim shorts this season. And then I’m allowing myself just a couple of pairs of novelty print shorts, but still in my chosen neutrals or signature colors. (I shared one of those pairs in this post.)
And now that I found a pair of black shorts I love, I’m looking forward to styling them multiple ways. These AT metro shorts are made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex, so they have just the right amount of stretch without losing their shape. I’ve worn them a couple of times now, and they still look crisp. They feel good on, and they have a classic 6″ inseam, which is a great length on most women. I’m counting on them to keep their true black color with washing. Fingers crossed!
Now, back to this sweet and oh so comfy top. Y’all. This lightweight polyester top feels amazingly soft on, and has such nice drape. It features raglan flutter sleeves that cross my arms at a visually pleasing diagonal. For more tips on how to minimize fuller arms (like mine!) see this post.
I think you could certainly wear a necklace with this shirt, but I chose to wear statement earrings instead. So I kept the neck bare and let the shirred neckline have its moment. My earrings are a Sugarfix purchase from Target last season, but these are somewhat similar. And THESE would be oh-my-word-darling with this top.
You can certainly wear this top untucked, but I tend to tuck fuller tops like this. So I wore my black/gold convertible belt. It’s out of stock, but this black one would work well, too.
I’m enjoying this sweet white leather and natural wicker shoulder bag. I thought it added a nice pop of white to balance out all the black going on in this outfit. I haven’t owned a white bag of any type for years, and I felt like I needed one. So I combined that necessity with my love for wicker and decided on this sweet number.
I selected to wear my strappy black sandals, which are from last summer. They feature a flattering V shaped vamp, which I mentioned in yesterday’s post. This is Talbots’ newest rendition of this sandal. But I also like this one, and I own it in the gold.
I also ordered these black shorts (not pictured) from Talbots. They feel great on, even better than the ones I’m sharing today. But they don’t look quite as nice. The leg opening is a little too wide for my taste and the black isn’t quite as dressy.

Blessed for My Day
I don’t believe we need to confess our sins to a priest or anyone else in order to receive forgiveness or a clear relationship with our Maker. I believe the book of Hebrews makes it clear that Jesus is our Great High Priest and that He has already made atonement for our sins and cleared the path to the Father.
But I do believe that confession is good for the soul. When I line up points of appropriate and gracious accountability in my life, I am more prone to deal swiftly and thoroughly with my faults and faulty behavior. Accountability is not always comfortable, but it is wise. And I can attest to the fruit it has born in my life. Do you have accountability partners who graciously help you examine yourself and stay on the right track?
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. ~ James 5:16

This outfit is so cute on you! I might actually consider wearing shorts, I don’t like my legs, now that I’m older but these shorts might change my mind. ? And then a cute top too- win win!
Thanks Kathy. They are a nice length and feel. Have a great day! ?
The top is so pretty Kay, and you look very nice in it! Have a blessed day!
Thanks Ginger.
Kay, I recently subscribed to your posts and now look forward to reading them with my morning coffee. I am slowly catching up with your past posts. Your views and style are very much in line with mine. Thank you for all of the wonderful information and suggestions!
Great to hear Pamela. Welcome to Dressed for My Day!!
I’ll be checking out the AT shorts, I’ve been pleased with my prior purchases from them and their shorts do fit well. Your eyes are such a pretty color and really sparkle, especially with the earrings that bring out your color. So pretty!
Thank you, Traci. I wish they were on sale, but they undoubtedly will be again soon. ?
FYI-from past experience, if you are worried about your dark clothes fading, wash the clothes in a dark colored laundry detergent. I use Cheer Color Guard. It works perfectly & keeps my dark colored clothing looking new!
Great blog!!!
Great to know, Laurie. Thanks so much for sharing this tip. ?
Love the top! Even though it isn’t a v-neck, the collarbones still show. A crew neck wouldn’t be as flattering, though.
Right!! My thinking exactly. ?
The length of those shorts is perfect: I got a couple new 5 in inseam ones this spring but that extra inch is perfect: looks like a perfect summer outfit.

Yes, the 6 ” is great. But I do love 5″ inseam, too. Happy summer…soon!
