How to Style a Pink Gingham Blazer for Summer

Have you ever fallen in love with a piece of clothing in the store, brought it home and then struggled to style it? I hope I’m not the only one! That happens to me pretty often, in fact. Honestly, gals, it takes a little work to figure out how to style some of today’s trends without looking like we’re trying too hard. Know what I mean? That’s why I’m excited to share with you how to style a pink gingham blazer for summer. I think I broke the code!

Some pieces of clothing strike a chord with us because they’re just plum pretty. That’s how it was when I saw this magenta pink gingham blazer. I fell in love. But even as I tried it on, I knew I’d have to be careful how I wore it. Over do it…look clownish. Play it too safe…be overwhelmed by the jacket.

Break the Code

I think there are several keys to wearing fairly “loud” or bright pieces like this pink gingham blazer. These keys apply to other colorful, youthful fashion pieces like, for instance, most anything from Cassie Freeman’s new Summer of Color collection at Nordstrom.

• Keep the vibe playful. Add fun accessories like my magenta earrings (similar) and gold sandals.
• Anchor all the fun with something more solid – think blue denim, khaki, white denim or black pants.
• Resist the urge to wear all the bright, loud things at once.
• Add interest with a graphic tee, like my Girls’ Trip tee.
• OR add another stabilizing piece like this chambray top (size down, runs large).
• OR use this opportunity to layer patterns. I think this shirt would look surprisingly a-maze-ing under this blazer. As would this sleeveless shirt.
• Wear it like you own it. You gotta have a little swagger to wear loud, playful clothing. Don’t apologize for it. Own it!
• When in doubt, go with a solid white tee like this one. You may be playing it safe, but you’ll still look great…every time.

This pink gingham blazer is extremely light weight and comfortable, and it fits true to size. Here are a few other ways to wear it:

• Pair it with girlfriend chinos in chambray and a white tee.
• Wear it over black slacks and a fun flamingo embroidered t-shirt.
• Top off your favorite pair of denim shorts and a white tank.
• Wear it to work with these polished denim ankle pants and a sleeveless shirt.
• Put it on with your white jeans and a chambray camp shirt. Be sure to add some fun accessories to keep it fun!

Blessed for My Day

My husband James is preaching through the book of Colossians right now. Last week he shared with us that to be “rooted in” Christ means we have a personal, intimate relationship with Him – one that others don’t see, that’s cultivated with quiet time in His presence and in His Word. But to be “built up in Him” means we have a relationship with Jesus that is indeed very visible to others, somewhat like a brick building that stands tall for everyone to see.

It’s not enough to have one or the other. In fact, one is dependent on the other. Unless we spend time with Jesus privately – in prayer, Bible study, scripture meditation and worship – we’ll never have the kind of visible relationship with Him that genuinely attracts other people to our Savior. Let’s make sure we’re sinking our roots deep in Christ so that we also are being visibly built up in Him.

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. ~ Colossians 2:6-7
