Well it’s 90+ degrees outside, so I pronounce that summer is officially here. Ha! And I can’t think of much that feels more summery than a sweet pair of white sneakers. Sure, I’m all for sneakers of different colors as well. But today I’m tying the laces on how to wear white sneakers this summer.
How Not to Look Old & Frumpy Wearing White Sneakers
Alright, let’s just cut to the chase. We know how to put on our sneakers and lace them up already. What we all really want to know is how to wear them without looking old and frumpy…without looking like we’re trying too hard or, worse yet, like we’re hardly trying!
Here are a few style tips to consider when you want to wear your sneakers for a chic but comfy everyday look:
- We’re not talking running shoes here. Let’s wear more streamlined, fashionable sneakers. Sure, the uber chic can get by with wearing running shoes with a pretty dress. But most of us will look like we accidentally put on the wrong shoes if we wear our true running shoes with street clothes.
- Make sure your sneakers are clean. They don’t have to be pristine, but they also shouldn’t be grey and dingy.
- Wear at least one other casual element in your outfit. If you’re wearing your sneakers with dress pants, add a denim jacket. If you want to pair your sneakers with a blazer, wear jeans and/or a simple tee.
- You can mix the message, but don’t confuse it. So it’s actually very chic to wear sneakers with something out of the box, like a blazer or dress. But don’t then add a lot of feathers or baubles or bling. Keep the juxtaposition between the sneakers and the dressier piece, and stop there.
That’s it! Let’s not complicate this, ladies. You really can wear those sneakers with just about anything if you keep those few suggestions in mind. Let’s check out how I’ve worn my sneakers recently.
Spring/Summer Outfits with White Sneakers
Obviously it’s a safe bet to wear sneakers with most shorts. However, they definitely combine more easily with denim shorts.
Likewise, sneakers are an easy and obvious choice for pedal pushers or clam diggers.
I almost prefer wearing sneakers with my chinos instead of sandals. Somehow these casual pants just call for sneakers to me.
Oh, and I also think that stripes are just begging for sneakers! You’ll see what I mean…
I love the clean lines created by wearing white sneakers with white jeans. Plus, there’s the stripes!
Cargo pants are also a great pairing for sneakers. You can cuff up the bottom of the cargo pants for an even sportier look.
And bright white sneakers look great with most colored jeans. Here I pulled this look together with a white tee on top.
Interestingly, I don’t have a photo of a dress or skirt with sneakers. In fact, I must confess, I don’t think I’ve worn that combination in a while. But the closest I have is this darling jumper with my white leather Keds. This works perfectly, and would be great with a denim jacket.
And the final outfit I have is just distressed jeans and my white blazer. This chic outfit works perfectly because of all the juxtaposition going on. I love it!
Obviously there are so many other ways to wear your white sneakers this summer. I love the idea of wearing them with a simple dress like the one in this post (which I recently updated) or a denim skirt (I’ll be styling this one soon!). What’s your favorite way to wear white sneakers?

Do you ever feel envious of others? I confess, I have tasted the bile of envy many times. Envy may seem like a harmless attitude, but in fact it is a killer. Not only does unaddressed envy strangle the life out of relationships, but it also derails us from our God-given purposes.
When I begin to feel the stronghold of envy in my life I am reminded that this emotion did not begin in a vacuum. Undoubtedly I have let my heart become fertile ground for this insidious weed by nursing my own discontentment. Then when I begin to shift my focus from the Provider of every good and perfect gift and gaze instead at others around me, my heart begins to ponder why they have things I do not.
The cure for envy? First I must turn my focus back to my good God. Then I must begin to thank Him for all He has provided me, cultivating an attitude of gratitude instead of discontent. Finally, I must trust that God is good and He is not holding out on me any good thing.
A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. ~ Proverbs 14:30
Good morning Kay! Welcome to summer! Here in middle Georgia we are still enjoying a break from the oppressive heat and triple digit highs, thanks to the tropical system that has been providing us with much needed rain, and more comfortable temps. However, the humidity has been stifling. I have a pair of white leather Keds that I enjoy wearing, especially since I do not keep my toenails polished. I need to try them on with a striped casual midi length dress that I recently ordered, after seeing @Cyndi Spivey styling it. I think the two pieces will look great together. Congratulations on not touching the bread basket last night!! Have a blessed day!
Thanks Ginger. Yes. I don’t miss the Georgia humidity! ?
Love these white tennis shoe outfits!! I was thinking of looking for a pair and now this makes me want them even more!! Might have to go out looking for some today!! Thanks for giving us so many great ideas!! Have a terrific Tuesday!
I went several years without any, but now I’m wondering how. Good luck shopping!
Good morning Kay. I’m not sure I am a fan of those leather sneakers, they look like old grandma sneakers to me. Ha ha. I have several pair of sneakers that I alternate with different outfits and my favorites are my Chuck Taylors by Converse, and my Kate Spade by Keds. I think they keep my look a bit younger ….. hopefully. I do love the different outfits that you style today. Embrace the heat!
Hahaha! Well actually chunky sneakers are very much in. But the best thing is always to wear what suits YOU. ?
Love all the recaps of the outfits and how well white tenny’s go with ALL of them! It’s been years since I’ve owned a pair of white tennis shoes. Thanks for showing so many different styles. And…have I missed your breakfast burrito recipe :).
Lol!! No, I have! I’ve completely forgotten to share it. I’ll try to work it in soon. Thanks for reminding me. ??
Thanks for that first tip. I despise the Dad Sneaker trend right now with dresses, skirts, etc. So much more refined to wear a slim sneaker instead of a clunky big shoe.
Love your post at the end also about envy.
Thanks Pam. Yeah, you see the “really cool” people pulling that trend off in magazines or what have you, but honestly I don’t even like it on them. I’m like, why?!! Hahaha! ?
