Hello dear gals, and welcome to Dressed for My Day! (Yay! After a weird website “scramble” I’m back up and running quite proficiently. Kudos to my son for helping out his mama!) Today I’m linking arms with precious Dianna at Dressed in Faith to share What to Wear on the 4th of July.
First Up, Meet Dianna
If you don’t already follow Dianna at Dressed in Faith I’m so anxious for you to meet her. She’s such a sweetheart! Dianna is a wife, mother of two, breast cancer survivor and a fellow Jesus follower. I enjoy her classic style, but I also greatly appreciate Dianna’s gentle spirit and kindness. She was such a trooper when I had to postpone today’s collaboration due to technical issues.
Bonus: If you’re looking for a blogger to follow with a different body type, Dianna’s a sweet petite while I’m a long 5’8″!
But before you head Dianna’s direction, let me share with you what I will wear on the 4th of July. I’ve styled some basics two ways.
What to Wear to a Parade, Backyard Cookout or Block Party
James and I often invite friends over to cookout on Independence Day. Or we join friends in their backyard. And we’ve also attended our share of small town Independence Day parades. I especially loved the annual event we had in one small town where the children decorated their bikes and wagons and paraded around the block.
For most anything I’ve ever done on the 4th of July, these denim shorts and a simple but fun patriotic tee fit the bill. My shorts are from last year and no longer available, but I’ve tried these raw cuff denim shorts on and can highly recommend them. And the price is oh so sweet!
This look would also work with pedal pushers if you prefer something that covers more of your legs. I’m loving these in colonial red, but they also come in blue liberty wash denim. (And they’re 40% off with code FRIENDS.)
Actually, I’m a little picky about patriotic t-shirts. I prefer not to wear a tee or any item of clothing that poorly imitates our nation’s flag. Maybe that’s not a thing anymore, but I remember my parents teaching me to respect the flag by not wearing it as clothing. Anybody? So I like tees like this one that encourage patriotism and celebration without mimicking the United States flag.
I’ve provided links to more patriotic t-shirts in the shopping widget below. But I also like this one and this one.
I think my super star necklace is especially appropriate for Independence Day, but I’ve enjoyed wearing it often. And I love the way it layers with my mini strand necklace and chloe charm adjustable necklace.
For backyard celebration or hometown parades, I think simple, cool sandals are in order. I love slipping on these cutout slides. But this version is marked down to a sweeter price.
I love v-neck t-shirts because they generally look flattering on every woman. (You might want to read my recent post about the styling magic of v-necks if you haven’t already.) Plus you can fill the v-neckline with layered necklaces. I topped off my jewelry with my gold moon and star studs (also in silver and rose gold) and some classic gold hoops. My soft red lipstick is this in rebellious rose.
What to Wear to a Baseball Game or Arena Event
Another great way to celebrate the 4th of July is to attend an event, such as a professional baseball game, where you get to enjoy fireworks afterwards. We don’t live near a professional sports venue right now, but we do enjoy walking down to our city parks to see Arizona’s best fireworks extravaganza outside of Phoenix. It’s really amazing for a small town.
I’ll definitely switch out my sandals for walk-worthy sneakers when it’s time to carry our lawn chairs to the fireworks show. You can bet I’ll be wearing my no-show socks underneath them, too.
Not all but many sports arenas require that you only use see-through bags instead of your usual hand or shoulder bags now. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of this clear bag. I carried it to my kids’ college graduations, college football games and baseball games. This one comes in several colors, as does this larger tote.
Finally, if you’re attending a sports event during the day, don’t forget your hat! I love this one that I ordered from Target. Remember, you can order online from Target and pick up your purchase at your local store if you prefer or want to save shipping costs. (Have you read my post about how to wear hats this summer?) And you can certainly order your red, white or blue cap in time to wear on the 4th of July!

Blessed for My Day
Today may you rightly know your priorities. It’s so easy to become distracted by the promises of this world. Yes, we know all that the world promises is fleeting, temporary and fluff in comparison to the riches of eternity with God. But still the glitter beckons and the tangible nature of that which we can lay hold of feels satisfying. It’s oh so hard to remember what’s real and what is not.
So today I pray and hope for you to build up treasure in heaven. Let’s allow the Lord to set our agendas. Let’s spend our time and other resources on sharing the good news of Jesus with others. And let’s spend time reading God’s Word because it never fades but instead promises to yield lasting results in our lives.
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? ~ Mark 8:36
Lovely holiday looks! We also love to eat with friends at our house and have a bbq! In fact, we do that tomorrow night! Have a great weekend!
Thank you Kay for your kind words! Would you believe I had technical difficulties this morning too – ugh! I love your cute tee!! I was taught the same thing about respecting the flag in what I wear too.
Love, Blessed For Your Day, today! Always a good reminder!
Cute Fourth of July outfit! ??????
Kay, does this tee run true to size? I love it! I rarely wear white tees because often they are too thin. I’m familiar with this brand, and I don’t think it would be. Thank you ?
Hi Kay! I like your patriotic tee. I actually ordered a tee from Love & Faith that says, “Red White and Blessed” that I am looking forward to wearing. Since we will be at home on the 4th while I am recovering from sinus surgery, I am going to wear my tee to doctors appointments, etc., instead of festivities. Another great BFMD!
