Hello dear gals, and welcome to Dressed for My Day. Today I’m staying true to the name of my blog and sharing with you how I really dressed for my day in recent weeks. I had troubles sharing these when I was traveling back and forth to Cincinnati under a cloak of secrecy. Ha! So now that the truth is out I’m ready to share what I wore on the last trip to our new home plus how I dressed this past week.
Get ready because I have a dozen “real day” outfits to share with you. I’ll try to keep what I have to say about each brief, but I also want to give you sizing information where necessary. Tell you what, unless I tell you otherwise, assume each piece fits true to size. I’ll point out the exceptions. How’s that?
Let’s go!
Black & White Gingham Shorts + Sleeveless Shirt
Obviously I wore these black and white gingham shorts with my sleeveless button up shirt when I was out shopping recently. Excuse the messy fitting room!
Unfortunately these terrific black and white gingham shorts are just about sold out. I think I wear them at least once a week. They’re also available in campfire red, in limited sizes. The sleeveless shirt is no longer available in the pink, but you can still get it in white or in various prints. Also these Sabrina neck ponte knit tees would look great with these shorts and are available in several pretty colors.
For more tips on wearing gingham, see this recent post.
Embroidered Smocked-Waist Dress
I wore this pretty navy embroidered smocked-waist dress while hunting for houses in Cincinnati. I felt cool and comfortable all day long. I’m wearing a small, as I generally do in J.Jill dresses and tops. (I’m continuing to have trouble with my J.Jill links. The link will probably take you to the “store front,” so just insert EMBROIDERED SMOCKED-WAIST DRESS in the search engine to bring up the dress.) Last I checked this sweet dress is still fully stocked and marked down. PLUS you’ll get 30% off your entire purchase with code SUNSTYLE. This is a great summer dress!
French Terry Geo Print Dress
My daughter Abby shared this sweet dress with you in this recent post. But I really did wear it just recently, too.
Of course, my 25-year-old daughter showed you the petite x-small on her skinny 5’8″ frame, whereas I wear a missy small on my not-so-skinny 5’8″ frame. Ha! This is a very comfortable and easy to wear dress.
Leopard & White
I wore this white and leopard print combination to church last Sunday.
Honestly, I don’t think the ankle of my pants usually looks that clunky. Ha! I’m pretty sure I’m just making them look that way by the way I’m posing. These white chatham ankle pants are really quite tapered and lovely. I wear a curvy fit in the white pants only. But I wear my usual size 8 in the curvy fit.
Last I checked, this silky, beautiful leopard print tie neck blouse is still fully stocked. I’m counting on wearing it through the fall.
Red Pedal Pushers & Navy Striped Tee
I shared these red pedal pushers in this previous post. They’re oh so comfortable and more slimming than cropped pants.
This easy-going striped embroidered tee is less than $20 now, and there seem to be plenty of sizes and colors available. It’s soft and comfortable, perfect for pairing with shorts and these pedal pushers for simple summer days. I’m wearing a small.
My pedal pushers are also available in light aqua and are marked down.
Chambray & White
I bought this chambray top just a couple of weeks ago and was immediately excited to share it with you. Then it immediately sold out! Ba dump bum.
This chambray wrap top is lovely and certainly worth a try if you’d like to achieve this chambray & white look. It’s also marked wayyy down. And the reviews on it are very good.
I enjoy wearing my white dress shorts often, but this look would work with white denim shorts as well.
Red & Black with Leopard Print Sandals
I’m a University of Georgia grad, you know. So I love wearing my school’s red and black! But that’s not the only reason I bought these black shorts.
These black shorts are so easy to combine with a variety of tops to create smart outfits. Add these comfortable and oh-so-chic leopard print sandals (TTS) and voila! The red tee is no longer available, but it comes in other great colors. For a red v-neck tee consider this two-pack option at Amazon.
Pink & Blue
I paired my blue and white watermelon embroidered shorts with this cinched hem pink tee for an easy work-from-home look.
These shorts have just the right amount of stretch. I’m wearing my usual size 8. And I’m wearing a small in the t-shirt.
White Shorts & Turquoise Striped Tee
I love the look of this soft turquoise striped tee with my white shorts. Such a summery fresh look.
This henley tee has become a favorite. It’s soft and stretchy, so size down. But run, run, run get it because it’s selling out. The tee is also available in other colors and solids.
Have I ever mentioned that this versatile Kendra Scott Olive necklace is adjustable. And there’s no limit to how much you can adjust it. So it pairs easily with so many necklines.
Red, Denim and Leopard Print
Once monsoon begins here in the desert, the days can actually be a little cool. Thus was the case the day I decided to wear these girlfriend jeans and my simple red tee.
My v-neck t-shirt doesn’t appear to be available in this soft red anymore, but there are plenty of other shades and stripes still available. Mine is a medium and is really too large. Size down.
Church on Sunday
I don’t think I’ve ever shown these polished denim chatham ankle pants on the blog, but I’ve worn them several times. I had a pair in the next size (or two?) up before I lost my weight, and I knew I wanted another pair. These are such versatile pants.
While I wear a curvy fit in the white Chatham ankle pants, I wear a regular missy 8 in these. So keep that in mind. However, they do come in a curvy fit if that is your usual fit in Chathams. Anyhow, these pants are great for the more casual office, church or any other occasion where you don’t want to wear jeans, but you don’t need to look especially dressed up either.
For instance, if you’re retired or don’t work outside the home (like me) but still need to look polished occasionally, these pants are a great choice.
Chambray & Orange Cropped Jeans
Sunday afternoon I wore these orange cropped jeans and my chambray tie hem top to work in my office and then go to small group.
These cropped jeans are now also available in a pretty red. If you click through the link and it diverts to the J.Jill home page, just put AUTHENTIC FIT CUFFED CROPPED JEANS in the search engine. Also, they’re currently 30% off with code SUNSTYLE.
I just got these leopard slides this week and I find myself choosing outfits around them. Ha! They’re comfortable and fit true to size. Of course, they’re just flat slides, no arch support or cushion. But if, like me, you don’t really have feet issues, these are a beautiful trendy addition to your shoe wardrobe.
That’s a Wrap!
I know I took a photo of what I wore on the 4th of July, but I must have accidentally deleted it. Anyhow, I wore exactly what I posted in this 4th of July outfit post. Ha!
Let me know if you have any questions. I’m really enjoying my summer wardrobe. I think I’m enjoying it because I truly have streamlined it and filled it with versatile pieces like my white shorts, chambray top and cropped jeans. And those leopard slides! Oh, my! I just can’t wear them enough!!
Blessed for My Day
Have you ever asked God to take your side in a conflict? Sure you have. I certainly have. And not only can we ask God to defend us and protect us when the arrows are flying, but we must ask Him to protect us and fight for us. We desperately need Him in such times.
But in Psalm 140, where David does exactly that, he ends His plea for protection and deliverance with a resolution. After begging for God to come to his rescue and vindicate him, he realizes that all he can really do in this situation is do his best to walk uprightly. I believe David is acknowledging that his responsibility is to conduct himself with integrity and honor and godliness, even when he’s under attack. And that’s exactly what we need to do. We must let God fight our enemies and protect us while we conduct ourselves with godliness and upright behavior.
I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
and will execute justice for the needy.
Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name;
the upright shall dwell in your presence. ~ Psalm 140: 12-13
Kay, I love these everyday outfits! You look great in the henley tee and white shorts. That color looks very pretty on you. I love your blog and the Blessed for my day.
Thanks Gayla. I do enjoy that turquoise top. Iโm so glad you are enjoying the blog! Have a wonderful day. ?
This is also a nice alternative to the chambray shirt ๐ I bought one and it is a very feminine cut ๐

Thanks for sharing Leanne. Good to know! ?
I really like all of your outfits and how many different ways you can change your hair. I really like your gold and leopard sandals, and the leopard & denim tops. Is James going to the Nordstrom sale with you on Friday? I bet he could find some really good bargains for himself, especially since yโall are moving to a state where you will have colder weather. Congratulations on Jury Duty being canceled. You been given a free day to pack. Have a blessed day!
Thanks so much Ginger. I hope you are recovering well.
Great “real life” outfits. The turquoise and white is my favourite. Enjoy your shopping trip….can’t wait to see what you find!
Yes, I think, looking back over the photos, that the turquoise and white is my favorite, too. Thanks Bev!
I always get so many ideas from your posts, Kaye, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint! Your outfit combinations help me to see new ways to wear what I’ve got or new pieces I can add to change things up a bit. I also really love that you have a way with accessorizing, which is a big challenge for me … never quite sure what jewelry to wear with various styles, necklines, etc. Still a work in progress, and I’ll never be accused of having amazing fashion sense, but at least I’m learning new ways to work with what I’ve got!
Ahh, I’m sure you’re selling yourself short, Lauren. But I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog and this post in particular. Thanks for sharing! ๐
What size are your black shorts from Ann Taylor, please?
