Hello dear gals! Welcome to Dressed for My Day where my goal is to inspire and help women like you and me to dress beautifully and appropriately for our unique days so we can engage graciously and authentically with those around us and influence them well. That’s a mouthful, I know. But I think it’s important that we (or at least I) keep that purpose before us. It’s not just about the clothes, gals. It’s about taking care of ourselves and dressing in such a way that we are freed up to engage authentically.
So to that end, today I’m sharing a variety of clothes from one of my favorite brands (and many of yours), Talbots. I have a few dresses, some T by Talbots athleisure looks and one casual work appropriate outfit. And so much of what I’m sharing is marked down more than 50%.
Sizing Information
I’m 5’8″ and 150-ish pounds with a curvy body shape and balanced proportions. I normally wear size 8 in pants, size 6 in jeans, smalls and mediums in tops and an 8 in dresses and jackets.
Dresses for Church or the Office
First up, a pretty, silky leopard print dress.
This lined dress fits true to size. I’m wearing an 8 comfortably. It doesn’t include a belt or sash, but is gathered with elastic at the waist. so you could certainly wear a belt with it if you’d prefer.
I found this dress to be fun and easy to wear. It would be great for work or church or a night out. I’d wear it with these ankle strap sandals in soft champagne (now greatly reduced) or these strappy gold wedge sandals (also significantly reduced).
I felt like this tile print jersey dress (less than $50) looked very flattering and felt quite comfortable. I’m wearing a size small. I’d pair it with these silver metallic woven wedges.
Casual Summer Work Wear
Next I tried this pretty dolman sleeve bateau neck sweater with olive skinny jeans. I think this would make a great casual Friday look for the work place, but it’s also great for church or a gals night out. Plus you could wear these olive skinny jeans year round. I love Talbots denim jeggings.
The muted olive denim jeggings fit just like all of Talbots denim jeggings fit me. I’m wearing my normal size 6. But these jeans also come in a curvy fit. I generally only wear the curvy fit in white.
I’m wearing a small in the bateau neck sweater. It comes in several other pretty shades, but this scallop pink is definitely my favorite.
Fun Casual Tops
Next I put on the girlfriend jeans in this light “nebula” wash. I already own these jeans in a similar wash, but I wanted to try them on with a couple of really colorful, fun tunics.
Even though this paisley ti-neck popover is a large, I couldn’t resist trying it on. I’ve pulled it to a little in the back so you can get a better feel for this really great top. It’s made of 100% rayon and would need to be hung to dry, but I think it would definitely be worth it. If you’re looking for a fun shirt for vacation or going out with friends, this is a winner. It’s soft, has a lovely drape and the colors are fabulous. The pictures on the website do not do this shirt justice.
Oh, and this colorful popover is marked down more than 50%.
Also 100% rayon, this summer tile popover is equally soft to the touch with a lovely drape. It’s not quite as full as the paisley top, but then again it wasn’t a large! Ha! Here I’m wearing a small and it fits true to size.
In both photos above, I’m wearing an 8 in the girlfriend jeans. They felt a little roomy and I could probably wear my usual size 6. But I’d rather err on the side of large with this particular cut of denim. They don’t have quite as much stretch as Talbots’ slimmer cuts.
I also paired the summer tiles popover with these drawstring washed linen shorts. You’d definitely want to tuck the shirt in with these shorts, but you can always pull part of the tucked shirt out in the back and on the sides.
I’m wearing a medium in the shorts. They have absolutely no stretch in them since they’re 100% linen. The shorts also come in flax.
For shoes, I’d wear these bougainvillea espadrille sandals with any of the above. And they’re marked down considerably.
T by Talbots Athleisure
Finally I gathered up several T by Talbots athleisure pieces. I was working at Talbots when they debuted this line, and I have to tell you, they have come a long way. These most recent pieces feel much more contemporary and wearable to me. At first, the line felt a little clunky. The fabrics were always thick and old-fashioned. But these pieces are lightweight and breathable.
I’ve ordered so many athleisure crops and pants from Talbots and been disappointed. But these lightweight stretch cinched-hem crops do not disappoint. I had ordered some of these in medium and was awaiting their arrival. But I tried on the small at the store and discovered they fit perfectly, so I’ve returned the mediums. These crops are truly a lightweight recycled polyester and spandex blend, and they have plenty of stretch to move with you. So go with your smaller size.
I paired the black crops (also available in navy and summer sage green) with this lightweight brushed stripe sweater tee. I’m wearing a small. I think it would all look really smart with this diamond textured open-front cardigan over it.
I’ve also been very impressed with the dresses in the T by Talbots line this summer. Every one that I’ve tried on has been lightweight, nicely tailored and made of breathable, movable fabric. This patch pocket stripe dress fits true to size and also comes in that pretty summer sage green. It’s 95% modal and 5% spandex for a soft, comfortable fit.
This mixed stripe shift dress is marked down 50%, and I think it is amazingly flattering. I’m wearing a small. However, I do need to warn you that the dress features zipper pockets in the front. I love pockets. But somehow these kind of got in my way and even bunched up a little as I walked. I also noticed a couple of customers complained about the pockets in the reviews. So if pockets but you, don’t get this dress. Otherwise, it’s a lovely fit and oh so comfy.
So the photo above is from a previous How I Really Dressed for My Day post, but I included it today because this super comfy French terry geo print dress is still available. And while I liked the other dresses I’ve shared with you here, this one is still my favorite. The silhouette is flattering, the polyester/rayon/spandex blend fabric is soft and so wearable and the print is youthful and contemporary. In fact, you may remember my 25-year-old daughter has this dress, too.
Well, that’s it for my fitting room try-on session at Talbots. But you might want to check out their sale pages. Much of what I shared here today is drastically marked down. But there’s more where those came from!

How much time and energy we waste trying to impress the Lord! Sure, we all do it. Even though we know we are saved by grace alone, we humans have something in us that “needs” to impress our maker. We want to earn His love, merit His attention and win His favor.
But regardless of how we muster through life – handling this situation wisely and that dilemma with character and that confrontation with tact – we do not impress God with our behavior. Instead God delights in the woman who recognizes her smallness, her frailty and her need for Him. He smiles when we draw near and ask for His help rather than offering ours. So today let’s resist the notion to put on a show and instead simply be grateful for His unmerited love.
His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love. ~ Psalm 147:10-11
Kay, I love what you write at the beginning of your posts! And today’s BFMD is spot on. Just WOW! The nice dresses are beautiful; of course, I love the pink top; the colors in the printed tops are so pretty; the athleisure capris look great. I suspect the zippers on the greenish striped casual dress would bother me as well. You look great in all of the outfits, but especially the nice dresses! As you continue to have lunch with your friends, maybe instead of going into it as ‘goodbye’ think ‘until next time!’ Just maybe that will make it a little easier. Have a blessed day my friend!
Thanks so much for reading and sharing, Ginger. I always enjoy hearing from you! ?
I love those fun casual tops on you with the girlfriend jeans. I was just in Talbots looking at dresses. I didn’t get any but it was fun to see them on you!! I think I’m just going to “shop my closet”. I don’t wear a lot of dresses so to buy one for one occasion doesn’t seem worth it but they all looked cute on you! Thanks for the BFMD was just what I needed to hear.
Thanks Kathy. I’m glad it spoke to you. Blessings to you!
Kay, I want to thank you for sharing the Adidas edge lux shoes on your Nordstrom Sale blog. I haven’t purchased new workout shoes for a couple of years because I never know where to look (so many choices ?) Most of the time, the ones I do purchase don’t fit right or I end up not liking them. I am so excited about these Adidas! Not only are they stylish and fun (love the gold accents!), but they are comfortable! You are the best! Thank you!
Kay, you could be the model for all the darling outfits you modeled today. Everything just fit you to a tee. Please keep your friends when the move is over and don’t quit writing you have such a wonderful gift.
Thanks Sharon. That is so kind of you. Don’t worry. I’m definitely continuing to write, both here and on my other neglected blog. Plus, I know God has other opportunities for me too. But I love what God has allowed me to do here. You gals make it a joy! ?
