Happy Monday, gals! Can you believe August is just days away? What??? How did that happen? But the great thing about this time of the year is that so many of our favorite summer finds go on sale. So if you’ve had your eye on something special, watching for the price to drop, it may be time to go for it. And if you like my personal “dress of the summer,” you’re in luck! The price has fallen dramatically on this sweet thing.
I’m calling this poplin shift dress the Dress of the Summer, but truthfully I’ve only worn it once. But that one time was a special day. I wore this navy polka dot dress to church when James first preached for our new congregation in Ohio.
This simple 100% cotton dress is lightweight, but fully lined, also with a 100% cotton lining. It features a button front closure, functional side seam pockets and a feminine fit and flare silhouette, accentuated by a removable tie belt.
I’m wearing an 8, so it fits true to size.
I kept my jewelry simple so the dress could be the star. I wore my white beaded drop earrings. They are now sold out, but these beaded hoops are a pretty option. Then I added my white enamel bangle and the classic gold bangle.
My nude patent leather ankle strap sandals have fast become my summer go-to heels. These shoes have been marked waaaay down, and they will definitely be stylish for several years to come. You’ll find them in a large assortment of sizes, and they fit true to size. I find them very comfortable and easy to walk in.
My sunglasses are also from Talbots. They look oh so similar to my much pricier Michael Kors sunnies, but at a fraction of the cost. I’ve enjoyed wearing them with everything this summer.
Did I mention that this dress is marked down more than 50% from its original price. The sandals are reduced more than 50%, too.
I’m sure I’ll be enjoying this classic shift dress for years. Now that we’re at a church where people dress up a little more I’ll find more occasions to wear it. But it would also be appropriate for a daytime wedding, bridal shower, ladies brunch or other fun event.
I found a few more lovely dresses that have been marked down significantly at Talbots, too. And when I loaded the shopping widget, all of them were pretty well stocked. Let me know if you pick one out! Maybe it will become your Dress of the Summer.

This time of year we see a lot of rainbows in Arizona. With many monsoon rains, we are treated to spectacular sights as the moisture dissipates and the rays of sunlight cast prisms of color through them.
But those rainbows are more than pretty show-stopping closures to rain showers. They are biblical reminders of God’s faithfulness to keep His promises. Rainbows also remind us that God deeply loves His creation and has gone to great lengths to redeem it from the ravages of sin and death. One day every promise He has ever made to us will be fulfilled and we will be united with Him face to face.
When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.” ~ Genesis 9:16-17
Kay, will be remembering you and Jim as you travel and settle in new community.
Thanks so much, Kaye! James is working really hard and sweating!! He has me doing things like getting the cars washed! ?
Happy Moving Day, Kay! I am praying for God’s richest blessings on you and James as you begin this new adventure. ☺️ I love this dress on you! Perfect for meeting your new church family. I’m sure they can’t wait to have you there! ?
Thanks so much Michelle. We are looking forward to getting to know them too.
Praying for you both Kay for God to provide a hedge of protection around you, good weather and a smooth transition. ~Lisa~
Thanks. We definitely need those prayers. I’m hoping we can both relax a little as we make our way to Cincinnati.
Praise God for His faithfulness! I loved your story about the song. “Great is His Faithfulness” is a favorite of mine as well! I will be praying for you and James as you travel and transition into your new community. It will be another reason and season to sing “Great is His Faithfulness! Blessings”. ??❤️??
Thanks so much, Nancy. We value your prayers. ?
Blessings on you move, Kay.
The dress is so fun on you! But I lament that it is so hard to find dresses wth sleeves! I don’t want to show my upper arms and all that goes with that, and it is always so cold indoors with the a/c. Maybe one day designers will give us sleeves again. I keep hoping ! 🙂
I’m kinda with you on that Lori. But I’ve also been noticing that I don’t judge other women about their arms nearly as harshly as I judge myself. So I’m letting up on that a little. Thanks so much for reading and sharing!
You look beautiful in that dress Kay! Good luck on your journey east, I will keep you and James in my prayers.
Thanks so much, Deb. ?
You and James are in my prayers as you start your new journey! So excited for both of you. Darling dress and wish I had some place to wear it!! We don’t dress up AT ALL at our church (which is disappointing to me, but….) and I really miss that opportunity. Sometimes, I’ll even dress up in nice pants, etc. but feel like I stick out like a sore thumb! Ha! Safe travels!
Hi Sondra. Yes that’s how it’s been here, too. And while I like being casual most sundays I still do enjoy wearing a pretty dress now and then. I hear ya!
Best wishes and safe travels to your new home. Just remember it’s a new chapter in your story. I really enjoy hearing your inspirational take on life and look forward to seeing your new town through your eyes. I have no doubt you will make new friends very quickly because in the short time I have been following your blog I can tell you are an amazing person. May God keep you close in your cross country travels ?
Thank you so very much, Leslie. I am looking forward to meeting new people and making friends. Always a blessing!! ?
Prayers for you and your husband as you start this new chapter of your lives. Great is His faithfulness!!
Thanks so much, Teri! ?
I too love the song, Great is Thy faithfulness. In fact I loved all you said as God has been faithful to remove, give courage, love me through all. I am also a preachers kid so I understand your feelings as you move. I pray God continues to lead and guide y’all every step.
Thanks so much for sharing Fonda. I really appreciate your words of encouragement. ?
Such a pretty dress!
And that is one of my favorite songs too. Between that one and Amazing Grace I can never finish the song as I am overcome with the full understanding of His grace and faithfulness. Our human minds really can’t comprehend it all. But I know that He IS faithful – even when I falter.
Prayers for safe travels as you move and that God will richly bless y’all and your new church home.
Thank you so very much, Gina. God is so good. ?
Happy Moving Day, with prayers for a safe trip to your new home!
Thanks so much, Gina!
I understand you are originally from Georgia, is this correct? I’ve lived in Alabama my whole life. What are the other places y’all have pastored? I was just wondering how you adjust to different climates, being from the south.
Yes, I’m from Georgia. James pastored in Georgia for a while and then 12 years in two different parts (and climates) of Texas. And then we’ve been here 14 years. We have absolutely loved the climate here in Arizona. Even though we are near the Mexico border, we’re at a high altitude so it’s sooo much cooler here than either Phoenix or Tucson. Actually a perfect climate. Shhh! Don’t tell anyone though. Most people in Arizona don’t even know how nice Sierra Vista is! Hahaha! We are looking forward to enjoying four seasons in ohio. And we trust we’ll be just fine with the new climate. Thanks for asking. ?
Happy moving day! I know that it will be bittersweet, but God always has something wonderful around the corner when you are faithful to him. I love that song so much too. God is so faithful and good to us.
Thanks, Carole. I really appreciate your well wishes!
Blessings to you and James on this new chapter in your life. May the Lord watch over you and guide you during your move and as you settle into your new life.
Thanks so much, Rhonda. We are excited. ?
Thank you for your beautiful words today. Just what I needed to remind me that even though God doesn’t always move the mountains I ask Him too He is till there to help me climb each step. Praying for God to bless you and your family beyond anything you can imagine as you follow the calling of God in your lives. Thank you for being such a blessing to me!
I’m so glad that encouraged you, Rhonda. To God be all the glory. He is indeed faithful. Yesterday in my husband’s sermon he mentioned that being a believer doesn’t mean your path will be without bumps in the road. But it means you’ll have better shock absorbers. ? I liked that.
What a beautiful dress Kay, and you look beautiful in it! I pray that your travel to your new home goes very smoothly. God bless and keep you safe as you follow Him.
Thanks so much, Ginger. ?
Love this dress and it looks great on you! I have always loved polka-dots! They just make you smile. 🙂
Thanks so much Lynda! Yes, it’s a fun dress to wear!
