Hello gals! I have to tell you, it’s just so much easier to post this week, now that our temperatures have cooled a little. We’re warming up again a little today and tomorrow, but not too high. So it’s definitely feeling more like fall. That’s why trying on these pretty fall fashions from J.Jill was so enjoyable yesterday. I hope you enjoy peeking in on my try-on session.

SIZING
I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 150. I have an X or hourglass shape and fairly even proportions. I generally wear smalls or maybe mediums in shirts, tops, dresses, coats, etc. I almost always take an 8 in pants, skirts or dresses. But I often wear a 6 in jeans. My shoe size is 9.5 regular.
At J.Jill I find that most of their tops run large, but their pants generally fit me true to size.
I’ll let you know if things run true to size and what size I’m wearing in the photos. But if you have any additional questions about fit, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.
First up, I actually liked this tweed sweater dress much more in person than I do from looking at this photo. I brought this one home and am planning to try it on with a black turtleneck. I’m wearing the small and it fits nicely. I think this will be nice with boots for Sundays.
I continued to wear the same cotton stretch layering shirt in the next photo. This shirt is soft and has a nice stretch to it. If I needed a white button-up shirt, I’d definitely consider this one. I’m wearing a small.
With the layering shirt I tried on the Quinn pant in cranberry. These are ankle pants and the catalog shows them hitting right about where mine do, but I think I’d prefer them a little longer. Keep in mind that I’m 5’8″ though. They’re great pants that fit true to size – lots of mobility and available in several beautiful shades.
I have always loved J.Jill’s scarves. And I think this tassled mixed plaid triangle scarf in acorn multi is spot on. I like the colors, the two different plaids and the tassels.
This cotton stretch stepped-hem tunic in black multi is a polished but easy-to-wear option for the office. I don’t know that the scarf is great with it. Maybe a pretty necklace would work better. J.Jill does have beautiful jewelry options, too.
This next pairing is one of my favorite that I put together. Still wearing the the Quinn pant, I added a textured two-pocket pullover in camel multi for a more casual look. The tassled mixed plaid triangle scarf in acorn multi works perfectly with this pairing, as does this leopard-print calf-hair belt bag.
I actually came home with the leopard-print calf-hair belt bag. The one above is the medium/large, and it’s too large for me. I normally wear a medium belt, but I only need the x-small/small in this one, even for a loose, draping fit.
I love the floral blouse with removable tie in the next frame. And I came home with this one, too. I’m wearing a small and I chose not to wear it with the removable tie. But I might play with it a little. You’ll see this blouse featured in more pairings.
The ponte knit button-front skirt looks a little like suede if you don’t look too carefully. Ha! It’s quite comfortable and easy to wear, if you’re needing smart skirts for work or church. It could be worn with tights and boots or flats or heels.
My favorite feature on this floral blouse with removable tie is the bell shaped cuffs. They have a sort of 1970s bohemian look to them, but without looking dated or fussy.
Do you prefer or like boot-cut jeans? These authentic fit boot-cut jeans might be an option worth checking out. These jeans fit well and feel good. I’m wearing the regular length and I would probably need them in the tall.
This look really came together when I topped it with the long-line shawl-collar cardi in acorn. This is a nice quality medium to heavy weight knit cardigan. It feels very luxurious and warm without being overwhelming or hot. I also like that the sleeves have plenty of stretch to accommodate a shirt underneath without feeling at all binding.
Next I tried on another pretty blouse, the relaxed shirttail blouse in chamomile. This is not an especially silky blouse, but does have a nice flow and drape. It’s 100% polyester and available in other pretty shades, such as persian blue (turquoise), navy and acorn brown. It would also be pretty under the long-line shawl-collar cardi in acorn.
I was quite surprised at how much I liked the everyday ponte knit pants. I’m wearing the boxwood green, but they also come in other more traditional neutrals and some plaids. These fit looser than a legging, which I like. But they still have a very slenderizing, neat silhouette. And they feel so good on. They run large. I’m wearing the small and they have a nice relaxed fit.
Next I tried on the denim jacket with removable faux fur collar. Cute! This is a sharp, tailored denim jacket with lots of stretch. And I think the removable faux fur collar is so fun.
Next I topped the ponte knit pants with a pretty Erin V-Neck pullover in blue topaz. Such a pretty color. I like that this sweater has a v-neck and a soft silhouette without looking like a tunic. I’m wearing the small.
I just threw on this Ikat floral square scarf. But it could be tied in several different ways to accent these pieces nicely.
Finally, just as I was giving out of steam, I slipped on the everyday ponte knit pants in black multi. I just wanted you to see one of the plaids. Again, they have a nice relaxed fit, but look sharp and neat. I paired the plaid pants with the Erin V-Neck pullover in black, same as above but different color.
There were a few pieces I tried on that I just couldn’t get to work. They may work for you just lovely, so let me know if you’ve tried these and like them. But they didn’t look on me at all the way they do in the catalog.
I wanted to love this fringed wrap skirt (such pretty colors!), but it was just too long. And it kinda just hangs there. No shape. And the lightweight down puffer vest was just too big and boxy, even in a small.
I think J.Jill has some really pretty pieces right now. Of course, I barely touched the surface of their current collection. But at least you can get a feel for how things fit me. Let me know if you have any questions.

Are you going through a difficult season, dear gal? I know someone is. Life is hard, and at any given time one or many of you may be walking through a lonely valley, climbing out of a hole or struggling to keep your footing on what seems to be an obstacle course. I get it. I’ve been there.
More importantly, you are not alone today. Right now Jesus is available to walk every step with you. He is there. He has you. You may grow weary at times. You may have days that seem like one struggle after another. You may cry tears and your heart may ache. But you are not abandoned. In the end, if you will walk with Him, you will get to the other side of this. Hang in there and press on with faith in the One who walks each step with you.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you. ~ Isaiah 43:1b-2
I love boot cut jeans. They are the best for my silhouette. In fact, I pulled all my skinny jeans yesterday to donate. Every time I would “attempt ” to wear them, I thought they weren’t flattering. After comparing mirror selfies of boot cuts versus skinnies, it was a no brainer for me! I even wear boot cuts hemmed correctly for flats.
Way to go, Lori! Yeah, mirror selfies really reveal the truth, huh. And yes, having boot cut jeans hemmed for different shoes is so important. I think for me boot cut jeans look good with heels, but I jut don’t like myself in them with flats. I have long legs, but I think it’s because my legs are kinda stocky (bleh!) that makes me not like them with flats. Anyhow, they’re definitely in. Thanks so much for sharing.
Good morning Kay. I love those plaid pants and the black sweater, so pretty for work. You look great in that combo, it is my favorite!
Hi Deb. Yes, it’s a great combo. The sales lady just happened to bring those pants to me after she saw how much liked that particular pant. And they are great pants!
You look beautiful in everything you tried on! I especially love the black sweater and black/plaid pants. Still having a problem with your emails NOT coming to my inbox. Did what you suggested so hope that works here on out. I still cannot tap on the particular picture I’d like to post. Instead have to use the Pinterest tab at the bottom of your emails and that just posts the topic for the day. I used to be able to save the one I wanted. Have a great day and enjoying these cooler temps along with you!
Hi Sondra. I’m working on the emails. One thing I did this morning (at 3 a.m.!!!) requires about 24-48 hours to take affect. So we’ll see. As far as Pinterest goes, I’m not sure what to tell you. I will keep working on that, too. But I’m surprised that you’re not able to pick the photo you want. On my phone I use the pinterest button and it gives me choices. So maybe make sure your pinterest widget is up to date on your device??? I don’t know. This is all above my head! But I’m researching and trying to get to the bottom of it. Gives me major headaches and keeps me up at night! Ugh.
Oh my goodness! I love all these things! That denim jacket with the fur trim collar is adorable! Love the colors here too Kay! Everything looks very nice on you! – Thanks for the scripture! Going through ongoing health issues, I find the scriptures and blessings very comforting ~ xo
Hi Betty. Good to hear from you this morning. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. But I’m mostly glad that the scripture spoke to you. It’s a good one, for sure. God is so good.
Good morning Kay!! You look so Beautiful in every thing you tried on. I Love, Love, Love all the fall colors. I really don’t have a favorite, I loved everything. Thank you for posting this Try-On Session. Love your Blog!! Hope you have a Wonderful Day!! ????
Good morning, I love the scarves you showed today. Sometimes I need a lesson on the different ways to wear a scarf. Thanks for the many choices of outfits. Blessings
My favorite is the floral blouse and button up skirt. Was the skirt true to size? Thank you!
I have been admiring the cute tweed dress for a while. I was thinking boots and a suede jacket for work.
Yes, that sounds lovely!
Kay, you may remember I’d been unable to access your newer posts. You recommended clearing my cookies, which worked. But only for a day or two. For the last couple of weeks I’ve had to clear cookies almost every time I visit your site to get the latest posts. Just wanted to give you that feedback again since you are working on a fix.
Huh. I’m stumped. I’ll keep looking into it.
Kay! You did an awesome job styling J.Jill clothes! I work at a retail store and I can tell you the Quinn Pant and the Everyday Ponte Knit pants have been hot sellers! I have one of each. Love how you paired the acorn (camel color) with the cranberry and pulled the colors together with the scarf. The fall-colored floral blouse is also a favorite!
Have you become a Bengals fan yet?? !!
Hi Sue! Thanks for chiming in. Yes, both of these pants are so easy to wear. They look neat and modern but also feel amazingly comfortable. That’s a winning combination in my book. I really love the colors in this fall collection! ???
