As I write today’s post I’m bundled up and wondering if I’m going to survive living in a cooler climate this winter after all. Ha! Fall has truly arrived! But today’s post reminds me why I’m excited about weathering out the colder seasons in Ohio this year. In fact, whether you live in the north or a more temperate climate, you’re going to love the Christopher and Banks coatigans I’m sharing today. And wait until you see the five looks I created around this one piece with all the other beautiful fashions I found on their website.

Christopher and Banks coatigans are lush, drapey sweaters that can be worn like a cardigan but that offer the warmth and substantial heft of a coat. A coatigan may be all the coat you need in a warmer climate or on a more temperate day, but you can also wear it as an outfit completer.

As I began building looks around this midnight currant and gold plaid coatigan, I was delightfully surprised at how versatile this piece is. I’ve created five distinct looks for everything from the casual office to the farmers’ market to lunch with the gals to a date night.

Look #1 with the Coatigan – Casual Date Night

Mauve Pullover Sweater with Jeans and Coatigan
midnight currant and gold plaid coatigan (wearing a medium for more relaxed fit) // signature slimming 5-pocket tapered leg jeans (wearing size 6, TTS) // directional stitch soft pullover sweater in clay rose (wearing size small) // long layered pendant and stations necklace

This cotton, acrylic and polyester blend coatigan is available in a full range of missy and women’s sizes. Here I’m wearing it with the signature slimming 5-pocket tapered leg jeans in the shaped fit.

For more information about Christopher and Banks’ jeans, you might want to check out my previous post with this brand, in which I shared their three different jean fits. You can also get information at their fit guide.

Mauve Pullover Sweater with Jeans and Coatigan

This directional stitch soft pullover sweater is so very soft and comfortable. I’m wearing a small in the clay rose, but it also comes in a deep, dark green called mythic forest. I topped it with a long layered pendant and stations necklace, which you’ll see again with other outfits.

Isn’t this such a fun look for a date night dinner and movie?

Look #2 with the Coatigan – Casual Outing

I think this next look is perfect for most any casual outing. It’s just a tee and jeans, but the look is elevated by choosing a colorful striped shirt that contrasts beautifully with the plaid coatigan.

Coatigan Casual Outing

I’ve paired the bold stripe crew neck tee with my barely boot leg jeans for a strong, confident look. By the way, I’m actually wearing the tall barely boot leg jeans, and I had them hemmed to my liking. But they’re also available in a short fit. I’m wearing a size 6. (Christopher and Banks clothing is not over-sized, but it is generously sized. Generally, select the smaller of your sizes if you vary between two.)

I found that splashes of leopard print work beautifully with this coatigan because of the gold in it. Christopher and Banks also has an abundance of accessories in leopard print, such as this scarf, this darling watch, this lariat necklace and this tote bag.

Striped tee and Coatigan

I simply added neutral colored booties and carried a neutral handbag with this outfit. But you could also wear it with brown or black shoes and purse.

Look #3 with the Coatigan – Casual Office

If you work in a casual office environment, this next look would be beautiful for work. The look starts with this drapey denim tunic. I’m wearing a small, and I topped it with a feminine sketched floral print scarf.

Chambray shirt and cords

The sketched floral print scarf ties the denim tunic nicely to my 5-pocket corduroy slim pants in heirloom mauve. I’m wearing an 8 in the cords. They’re perfect for tucking into your favorite riding boots, whatever color you prefer.

I didn’t carry a bag with this outfit, but this animal print wristlet would suffice nicely. Can you believe how versatile the Christopher and Banks coatigans are???

Look #4 with the Coatigan – Casual Weekend

Waffle weave top

This next look takes a decidedly casual turn. I grouped my everyday straight jeans, a beige v-neck solid thermal top and my sneakers for an outfit that’s appropriate for walking around the farmers’ market or attending a grandchild’s football game.

Christopher and Banks Coatigan

Unfortunately, I don’t find this v-neck solid thermal top in off white on the website. But the comfy, casual shirt is available in three other pretty colors.

You’ll find a wide assortment of Christopher and Banks coatigans on their website here. I especially like this navy mixed pattern block coatigan for a polished look. But if you like wearing warm colors, this Pointelle detail patch pocket coatigan lends itself to some beautiful pairings.

Look #5 with the Coatigan – Multi-Layered Chic

For my final look I layered the plaid coatigan atop two layers. I think the mixture of textures and prints is so chic.

Leopard cardigan

Of course, this leopard print cardigan is dreamy on its own. I’m just wearing it over a simple but very comfortable (oh so stretchy!) long sleeve crewneck tee in cordovan brown. I’m wearing a small in both. The t-shirt comes in other beautiful colors as well as wardrobe essential white, black and navy.

Don’t you just love all the colors, textures and contrasting prints in this multi layered look? I think this may be my favorite. And it’s definitely the warmest. But I have to tell you, it doesn’t feel cumbersome or heavy at all.

I hope you’ll take a moment to check out the Christopher and Banks coatigans, as well as the other pieces in their fall line. Everything you see in the looks above, with the exception of shoes, belts and handbags, is from Christopher and Banks.

Blessed for My Day

I’ve long been intrigued by the implications of Psalm 25:14. This small scripture packs a big punch. It tells me that God desires an intimate relationship with me, one in which I can turn to God as a friend. But not only does He want me to feel comfortable pouring out my heart to Him; He longs to make more and more of Himself known to me. That, after all, is the definition of intimacy – mutual trust and disclosure.

But God doesn’t offer that kind of intimacy to those who seek it passionately, those who perform perfectly or even those who read their Bible most frequently. It’s offered to those who “fear Him.” The way to intimacy with God is not to presume upon Him as a friend, but to worship Him as God Almighty, God Most Holy. And as we worship Him with awe and humility, we will naturally desire to obey and please Him. That’s when the floodgates of intimacy will open up. That’s pretty amazing to me.

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. ~ Psalm 25:14

  1. I love these Fall colors. I am petite size and I am not sure if the small size would be to big,. I see the sizes don’t come in x-small.

  2. Such pretty outfits and those colors are so pretty for Fall! I enjoy the variety of styles Christopher & Banks offers and the fact they do carry both Missy & petites because I fluctuate back and forth depending on the style. I need to pop in their store and see what’s new. I just prayed for your tech issues to be resolved as you consider an overhaul but I want you to know, on this side of your computer, your Blog appears professional and beautifully done. Be Blessed today!
PS: I enjoy your ‘tip of the day’ in each post!

    1. Thanks so much Nancy. The issue I’m having right now is that the pictures are appearing smaller, especially on the cell phone. Have you noticed this by chance?

  3. Such beautiful colors for Fall! I LOVE the way you styled every single piece from Christopher & Banks! I will definitely have to check them out.

    1. Thanks so much Sondra. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. In fact, I wore the brown long sleeve tee and jeans yesterday. And I will probably wear the striped one today. They’re great tees.

  4. Beautifully styled! The majority of my jeans come from C & B, as I can get the fit I need in the length I need. I usually go for the short or ankle jeans. I’m a curvy 5’4” and that length seems to hit in the perfect. Since I’m long waisted, petites do not work for me. I love those colors with your hair color! With my coloring I can wear most any color, but that rose is one of the very few that do not work for me, ?. I did however, purchase a few of their tops in the fall jewel tones! Blessed for my Day, good food for thought!

  5. I didn’t know C&B carried tall sizes! YAY! Do you know the inseam? I’ve never seen them in the stores. At 5’7″, their regular pants are perfect ankle length ( or sometimes cropped) for me. BTW- Loved the colors on you!

  6. Kay, you do look great in all of the outfits! My favorite one is the 2nd one because of the long lines it creates. And the mauve colored sweater is gorgeous on you! I have a question – Do you find the corduroy jeggings from Talbots or the C&B corduroy pants to be the most versatile, in regards to the type of tops you can wear with them? Thanks! Good luck with the technical issues! Technology is great until it doesn’t work. Have a fabulous weekend! I hope that your daughter is doing well! I know y’all are looking forward to seeing her for your sons wedding.

  7. I love your “Blessed for my Day” posts so much! This one really did pack a punch. I never really thought of it this way before and I’m so glad that you pointed this out – that we should not presume upon Him as if he is a friend but to worship Him as God Almighty, with awe and humility. I really love this – I truly want the floodgates of intimacy with Him to open up wide! I’m going to share this today with my prayer team. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this scripture with us, Kay. I hope you have an amazing day!

  8. Great looks. I love seeing one outfit done many different ways. It really helps to justify the cost of clothes when you know it can be worn in many different ways. The cost per wear argument! Thanks for all your work on this. I don’t think the store is available to me here in Canada but I still use the ideas. Stay warm my friend. We have already had snow! It is melting again and lovely fall weather has returned but I know winter is near.

  9. I am not sure if you have a new hair cut or style or if it is different makeup, but you are just glowing. Maybe it is the new city. Enjoying your site.

  10. Beautiful, classy looks, each and every one of them. Sure wish this shop was available in Austria. Thanks for the inspirational post.

  11. I’ve never read fashion blogs before, but have wanted lately to be more abreast of what’s out there since I returned to the working world about a year ago. I usually buy most of my clothes used on eBay, but was so taken by this sweater I clicked on the link and found it pleasantly priced and on sale as well. It arrived yesterday and of course you know I had to wear it today. It is soooooo soft and warm! Thank you for the link – you have a new reader for sure.

    1. Hi Heather. I’m so glad you introduced yourself. Welcome to Dressed for My Day! Im pleased that you enjoyed the post and that the sweater works well for you. I think it’s a great one too. I hope you’ll enjoy more posts in the future. Let me know if you have favorite brands or stores. Have a wonderful weekend!
