Good morning, sweet gals! I’m still in a bit of a fog from our big weekend. My son got married Sunday afternoon. The bride was beautiful and the groom was so very handsome. And they both absolutely radiated happiness throughout the afternoon and evening. It was such a joy to celebrate this lovely occasion with friends and family who came from all over to wish them well. All week long the weather forecast had been gloomy and rainy for Sunday, but early in the afternoon the clouds parted and we were blessed with the most gorgeous fall day we could hope for. Bliss.
Here’s a sneak peek photo. I shared a few more with my email subscribers and on Instagram stories. And of course, I’ll share the details of my mother of the groom ensemble in a dedicated post soon.
But alas I must change gears. Fortunately, the leaves were almost as beautiful the day we snapped the photos of this fun fall outfit. And since Talbots has continued their Friends and Family event for a few more days, I thought it would be a great time to share this plaid wool skirt and chambray shirt combo with you. You’ll get 40% off one regular-price item and 30% off everything else with code TREAT40 at Talbots this week.
In case you’re wondering, I actually wore this very outfit all day last Thursday as I ran last minute errands in preparation for my family’s arrival in Cincinnati and the wedding. I felt comfortable, pretty and fit for fall!
My red puffer vest is one I purchased last fall from Talbots, but they have this one with a detachable faux fur collar this season. I’m wearing a small, and I’ve purchased the black one from this season in small, too.
I wore the red puffer vest that day to bring out the red in the multi-colored plaid skirt. You’ll see me style this skirt differently later in the week.
There are so many ways to top this versatile plaid skirt, but adding a chambray or denim shirt keeps the look fresh and youthful. I’m wearing this shirt in a medium for a roomier fit. You’ll get this one for 40 or 30% off right now with code TREAT40, but here’s an even more economical choice.
The faux wrap plaid skirt is made of a 48% Wool, 27% Polyester and 25% Viscose blend and is fully lined. It has a side zip closure. I love, love, love these colors.
It took me a while to jump into the belt bag trend, but I’m loving it now. I think I have three of these convenient, trending bags in varying price points and materials. This one by Rebecca Minkoff is real leather, but it was marked down to less than $100 yesterday. We’ll see how it’s listed today! Meanwhile, I also have this one from Target and love it.
I purchased my Frye boots during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for a deeply discounted price. But I think these are a beautiful and more economical option if you don’t want to pay the Frye brand price.
You could go without tights or wear a different shade, but I chose to add navy tights for warmth and continuation of color.
Honestly, if your clothing is as comfortable as this skirt, shirt and boots are, then it’s just as easy to wear a skirt for a casual fall day as it is jeans or pants. And I think a skirt is such a fun way to add some variety to your daytime looks.
Do you enjoy wearing skirts in the fall and winter? I almost enjoy them more at this time of year than I do during the summer.

Blessed for My Day
One of the sweetest blessings of Sunday’s festivities was the presence of so many we love and cherish. I am beyond grateful for the friends and family members who drove or flew hundreds and hundreds of miles to be with us for our son’s marriage celebration. All of our immediate family and many of our extended family members made the effort to join us.
But I’m especially grateful for the presence of two dear friends (and Dressed for My Day readers) who I’ve known and shared life with since childhood. These sweet gals and their husbands haven’t lived near me since college, but we’ve remained constants in each others’ lives. Their presence this weekend meant the world to me. I love you, Michelle and Candy!

What a beautiful bride and groom and wedding! Enjoy your new daughter-in-law!
Thank you, Carole. ❤️
What a blessing to share this beautiful occasion with you and your family! It was an honor to be included. You were such a lovely and gracious Mother of the Groom! I love you, dear one, and I am thankful for a lifetime friendship with you! I hope that you can get some rest today! ??☺️
Thanks so much sweet friend. I finally slept really well last night and I’m planning to enjoy my few days with Abby now. ?
Wow! That’s one word to describe the bride and groom, your dress, pictures you shared, and the gorgeous fall colours! Congratulations to all on a beautiful wedding day.
Thanks so very much, Bev. I think that is a fitting word, too. Bless you!
What wonderful wedding pictures. The colors of the backdrop are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.
It was a beautiful fall day for sure. Thanks for reading!
Good morning, Kay. So thankful we could be part of the happy wedding day! It was such a beautiful wedding and special time with your sweet family and lifelong friends. Enjoy the “grand-dog” this week!
Hahaha! He’s definitely keeping us busy. But I’m glad we could do it for them. Thanks so much for making the trip. Glad you’re home safe. ?
Kay, what a joyous occasion. God blessed you with another daughter. Both of them look so happy. Thank you for sharing your special day. Years ago, I used to wear what was called a fanny pack. I am reminded of that when I saw the belt purse. It wears well with the outfit. Oh, and your dress looked simply elegant on you.
Thanks so much. Yes, I had a fanny pack, too. I think that’s why it took me a while to get on board. But these are definitely a little more sophisticated than the fanny packs I owned. ?
You are a beautiful mother of the groom. Look forward to more pictures of that special day. I so enjoyed both of my boys weddings and adding two beautiful daughters to our family.
Thanks so much, Wanda. ?
Kay, Thank you so much for sharing this very special time with us! Happiness, love, and joy are evident in all of the gorgeous pictures. The fall colors are stunning! Unfortunately, the very dry weather has prevented our area from seeing much color. For more years than I can remember, my husband had been using a fanny pack. While I’d love to break him from it, that isn’t going to happen, so I am accepting that uniqueness. Enjoy the extra time with your daughter.
Hahaha! I love it!
Oh Kay, thank you for sharing those beautiful wedding pictures! You look stunning. Loved the pictures of the bride ?? and groom ?? too! I’m glad it was such a beautiful glorious day. Those are memories you will cherish forever. Blessings!
Thanks so very much, Cyndy.
Thank you for sharing the happy wedding photos! What a beautiful day and what a beautiful couple. Congratulations to all. And you looked lovely, Kay!
Absolutely beautiful family! Praise God for a gorgeous day and a Christ-centered wedding! Thank you for sharing the beautiful wedding photos with us!
I can think of no greater joy in God’s world,
