Happy Monday, gals! I’m working hard today to bring you fresh content and those gift guides I’ve promised this week. But today I’ve gathered photos of twelve different outfits I’ve composed with various blazers. If you can’t already tell, a blazer is one of my favorite ways to elevate an outfit. So you’ll see me pair a blazer with everything from jeans to dress slacks to joggers. I hope this collection inspires you! Let’s check out my favorite 12 ways to style a blazer this fall and winter.

12 Ways to Style a Blazer this fall and winter

About half of these outfits are from last year, and almost all of them include pieces that have been in my closet for a while. So I’ll try to link to similar pieces when possible, but mostly I hope you’ll gain a little inspiration to shop your own closet for many of these looks. Of course, be sure to let me know if you’re particularly interested in reproducing one of the older looks and I’ll definitely scrounge around for similar pieces to complete your outfit.

Black Blazer + Black Jeans + Blush Blouse

While I’ve added a number of blazers to my closet over the past year, I still return to my black blazer over and over. It’s definitely the most versatile and easiest to grab on the run.

Blush Blouse + Black Jeans 3 Ways

I love adding a splash of leopard print to any look with my black blazer. My 1901 black blazer appears to be sold out. But 1901 has this one-button navy blazer that’s awfully classic and this great check blazer (currently reduced 40% – may be for the Nordstrom Fall Sale, though, which ended Sunday).

Black Blazer + Black Slacks + Blouse

I never tire of pairing my black blazer with my black dress slacks. Whether I top my slacks with a pretty blouse or a dressy sweater, this look never fails.

Style tip: You do not have to exactly match your blazer to your slacks. Close enough does perfectly well.

Black Blazer + Black Jeans + Plaid Shirt + Boots

This next look has all the fun things! Riding boots, a sport plaid shirt and leopard print. Ha! I think the black blazer ties it all together beautifully.

Black Blazer + Animal Print Jeans + T-Shirt

Alright, let’s take a walk on the wild side now. The following look features both animal print jeans and snake embossed pumps. But again, the look works because I topped it with a simple white tee and pulled it together with a chic black blazer.

Black Blazer + Colored Jeans + Neutral Turtleneck

This next look is definitely one of my favorite. I tend to lean more toward classic looks like this. And adding a black blazer is a great way to make your colored jeans look more classic and subdued. In fact, I’m not seeing a lot of colored jeans this year, so if you have them in your closet I suggest pairing them with a neutral classic such as this black blazer or a denim jacket.

Black Blazer + T-Shirt + Jeans

Of course, the real beauty of a black blazer is how easily it pairs with your dressiest shirts but also with your most basic t-shirts. I love a black blazer with jeans and a white tee.

Black Blazer + Joggers + T-Shirt + Sneakers

Don’t hate me, but I think this next look is my absolute favorite with my black blazer. (Hold on, we’re about to move onto other blazers!!!) I just love the juxtaposition of the blazer with these super casual threads. And yes, I really did wear this outfit. And I’ll wear it again!

By the way, most of these looks that I’ve created with my black blazer could be duplicated with a navy blazer.

Colored Corduroy Blazer + Sweater + Jeans

I’m loving this burgundy colored blazer from Talbots. It’s made of a fine whale corduroy that is so very luxe. And it pairs nicely with many things in my classic. But the easiest way to wear it is with jeans. Yay!

Wear a blazer over your pullover sweater

Of course, I think the element that really makes this look pop is the colorful flannel button up shirt I’m wearing as my bottom later. You can read more about this outfit and all the ways I styled this sweater here.

Corduroy Blazer + Jeans + T-Shirt

I also have and love a red corduroy blazer. I know. I’ve stopped. I won’t buy any more. Hahaha! But I just couldn’t resist this thick, lush, red blazer. It pairs well with simple t-shirts, too. In fact, I think it has a decidedly more casual feel to it.

Oversized Plaid Blazer + Pullover + Jeans + Scarf

If you remember this look, you may also remember that it’s an example of tone on tone or tonal dressing. Quite hot this season. I love pairing a plaid jacket with other pieces in the same color family for a chic, modern look.

Long Plaid Blazer + White T-shirt + Straight Leg Jeans

In this ultra modern and casual look I wore a white t-shirt with my long plaid blazer. (What a novel idea! LOL!) But keep in mind that you can duplicate this look with a long sleeve t-shirt or make it even edgier with a long sleeve lightweight sweat shirt.

Wool Plaid Blazer + Pullover Sweater + Jeans

That brings us to my last look. Here I’ve topped a basic jeans and pullover sweater with a colorful, rich plaid blazer. This is another amazingly versatile blazer. But I do love it over a simple cashmere sweater. I think this would even make a beautiful holiday gathering look.

Blessed for My Day

My husband said it again yesterday in his sermon. The Bible has the answer for absolutely every question or dilemma we could ever have. But sometimes those answers are not spelled out and easy to spot. Instead, we have to develop a sensitivity to biblical truth by building precept upon precept. The more we read the historical accounts of the Israelites, the poetic verses, the warnings of the prophets and the stories of Jesus, the better we become at understanding what is right, what is wrong, what is best and what is dangerous.

Today if you are struggling with a specific dilemma for which you crave God’s direction, simply tell Him that. Then commit to spending time daily reading God’s Word in a systematic way. Either read verse by verse through a book at a time or read the passages selected in a set of daily readings. The more you expose yourself to God’s Word in a systematic and consistent way, the more you will begin to hear God clearly directing your path.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. ~ Psalm 119:105

xoxo, Kay

  1. Love all your ideas. I know we may not buy anything when we ‘shop our own closet” but what a good way to dress and be stylish. Thanks.
(Maybe sponsors can see how long we are on your sight instead of just what we buy… many of us will buy something soon anyway!)

  2. So much inspiration here! I took notes so I remember not to wear the same things the same old way! Your Blessed section….so true! I have been reading Genesis from the beginning and have been seeing familiar stories in a new way. The stories come back in other places throughout the Bible and I like to go back sometimes for review. I love how God reveals new things in familiar passages! His Word is very much alive.
