Happy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend? Today I thought I’d get real about how I’ve been dressing for my days. Ha! You gals know I’m always pretty real. But while I’ve been posting beautiful holiday party looks here on the blog, I’ve been dressing pretty casual in real life. And I know you gals tend to like these “how I really dressed for my day” posts.
Actually, now that I have looked over these photos, I don’t have that many casual looks to show after all. It seems I mostly take photos of my dressier looks that I wear to church or out to dinner. And truthfully, many days I just repeat the day before. Ha! But let’s see how I really dressed for my day.
I think much of what I’m showing in this post is still available. But if I show you things I’ve had in my closet for a while or things that have sold out, I’ll try to match you up with a comparable substitute that is available.
SIZING
I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I have an X or hourglass shape and fairly even proportions. I generally wear smalls or maybe mediums in shirts, tops, dresses, coats, etc. I almost always take an 8 in pants, skirts or dresses. But in jeans I vacillate pretty evenly between 8s and 6s.
So that I can write more about styling, let’s assume that everything I’m showing you fits TRUE TO SIZE unless I tell you otherwise. And I will tell you. How’s that? But if you want to know about a particular garment, just let me know in the comments section.
Camel Turtleneck & Black Pants
I won’t be able to tell you exactly where I wore every outfit, but I know I wore this to church one morning. The reason I know that is because I walked in the door and one of the greeters was wearing the exact same outfit but reversed. Ha! She had on beautiful camel pants and a black cashmere turtleneck and looked just lovely. I’m absolutely crushing on black and camel this year.
Please note that if you shop through the links in the captions or through the shopping widgets I’m providing, I potentially earn a commission from your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here at Dressed for My Day. I value you your trust!
Workout Top & Reflective Tights
Who knows which day this was, but I’ve worn these workout clothes to work out in almost every day since I bought them. Then I have to force myself to take them off. That’s how much I love, love, love these reflective tights and sleeveless tee.
Distressed Jeans, Cashmere Turtleneck & Boots
Here’s that camel cashmere turtleneck again. When I find something I like, I wear it…over and over. And I’m loving the versatility of this particular shade of turtleneck.
Black Cardigan & Black Jeans & Blue Top
I wore these black jeans and blue shirt to work at home. Then I put on the long wool and cashmere cardigan to go to the doctor’s office and a few shops. By the way, this lovely cardigan is available in other shades, too, and is now 50% off. I’m wearing a small, so go with your smaller size.
Grey and black for home and dinner out
I wore this grey turtleneck and black cords to work from my home office. I added the grey cashmere ruana because I was chilly. My ruana sold out early after the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but this one is similar and on sale.
Later, when I went out to eat, I added my Levi’s plaid coat. My coat is sold out and doesn’t seem to be available anywhere. But I just had to show it to you anyhow. Did anyone else pick it up in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?Anyhow this Levi’s plaid coat is still available and on sale.
Merlot Sweater Dress for Church
When I ordered the vine green sweater dress I showed in this previous post, I actually ordered half a dozen sweater dresses. Ha! A few just didn’t work at all, but I couldn’t decide between that beautiful hunter green dress and this wine fit and flare sweater dress. So, alas, I kept them both. They’re both equally warm, flattering and so comfortable. I have this dress in a medium.
Oh, and I wore this to church this past Sunday.
Blue Crew Neck Sweater and Cords
I wore these black cords and my blue crew neck sweater to work from home and then to go to an appointment. I think I made some returns that day, too. And I may or may not have stopped at Chick-fil-A for a Caramel Frosted Coffee.
Let’s Mix & Match!
There’s nothing new in the next photo. That just goes to show how much I tend to mix and match my pieces. And that’s exactly why my closet is heavy on wardrobe essentials in neutrals. But I will pause here to tell you that these snake print booties are some of the most comfortable shoes I own. Hands down.
Black Tee & Jeans
When I look through styles on Pinterest, I realize that I’m drawn again and again to very basic combinations including lots of black. So I’ve been dabbling in creating more outfits that look sleek and simple with black. That’s why I paired my new black stretch tee with my cropped straight jeans on Tuesday. I mostly wore this at home, but I did run out to get a salad for lunch. I felt so chic in this combo.
Sometime in the day I added this red long cardigan (similar). Y’all! It’s cold here.
Fair Isle Sweater the Day Before Thanksgiving
So much for going in order! I snapped this photo in the Talbots fitting room, but I wore this exact outfit the day before Thanksgiving when the kids came in and we went out for pizza. I love the length of this Fair Isle sweater with jeans. And I like these neutral colored flats with it since the sweater features the same color in the yoke.
The sweater and jeans are now 30% off with code HOLIDAY.
Walking to Coffee with a Friend
I snapped this photo yesterday before leaving for a friend’s house. We were walking a couple of miles to a coffee shop and back, so I decided to go casual with my workout leggings and hooded top. I planned to wear this Will Power Vest, but ended up wearing my hooded down & feather jacket instead.
Out to a Casual Dinner
Last night a young couple that’s been dating asked us to join them for dinner at the mall. I had a feeling they were going to tell us they’re engaged. And I was right!!! Yay! I had just received this pretty Kendra Scott necklace in the mail, so I added it to my turtleneck sweater. I think it’s the perfect addition to so many casual sweater outfits. And it’s still 50% off!
And that’s a wrap! Let me know if you have any questions. And thanks so much for spending a little time at Dressed for My Day today!
Blessed for My Day
Most of us gals can dress up a little and present ourselves in a pretty package. But the outside doesn’t always accurately reflect how we’re doing on the inside. Some days I probably look like I have it all together when I step out of my house. But quite often I feel a little lost, lonely, inadequate or even uncertain about the future. You probably have moments or days like that, too.
That’s when it’s important to remember that we don’t step out alone. We have a Good Shepherd. Jesus leads us, goes with us and provides for us along the way. Even when we lose our way a little, He is there to guide us back to the safety of His presence. We simply need to call out to Him. Aren’t you so grateful for your Good Shepherd?
I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. ~ John 10:14-15
For some reason, I can only read your posts on a portion of the screen. Even though the texts are easy to read, the photos are small and dark. Is there a reason for this?
Huh. What browser are you using? I’m not having that problem on Chrome. I’ll check into it though. Thanks for letting me know.
Love your style! I moved from NY to the desert of SoCal in July 2018 so last December we did not decorate at all.We were under construction and so stressed out dealing with an uncooperative contractor. I bought a small nativity set and put it out to remind us the reason for the season. This year I finally unpacked the decorations we moved out; no tree but my 30 or so Nutcrackers and a nativity set handmade by my in-laws in 1985 are on display and looking quite festive!
Thanks for letting me know that I’m not the only one. Ha! That’s really encouraging. ?
Such great looks! Love that camel sweater on you and the blue sweater is such a pretty shade of blue! Really loving all these looks, comfy and stylish!
Thanks so much Ellie.
I really enjoyed this post, and got some inspiration for using things that are hanging out (literally! ) in my closet! Love the camel sweater and black pants you wore to church. So classy! Thank you for adding the “Blessed for My Day” too. This really hit home for me!!
Great! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for letting me know. ☺️
Thank you for the reminder in BFMD that Jesus is always here guiding us and caring for us.
On several different occasions when we have been planning to be away from home, we have not put up tree. I do what you are doing. I do what you are doing: a wreath on the door, poinsettias on the hearth, a creche on the mantle, and candles. In fact, that is what is happening this year since we will go to my father for a few weeks.
Ahh, thanks so much for sharing, Nancy. I really appreciate it. ?
I really like the wine sweater dress, you are wearing a M? Size chart says that’s a 6/8. I typically wear an 8 or a 10 (size L is a 10/12) but I’m a pear/pyramid shape. Would you advise a M or a L? TIA
Oops. I was wrong. That’s what I get for assuming. Yeah, I followed the website size guidelines and got the large. It fits nicely, very comfortable. I didn’t try a medium. Might would have worked. But I’m very happy with the large. And yes, I wear 8 or 10 too. So I’d suggest the large maybe.
Hi Kay! I’m two days late reading this post. I don’t ever recall us not decorating for Christmas, however we decorate in October due to deer hunting. And this is our very favorite holiday so we like to have plenty of time to enjoy the tree, lights, etc. Coming home to a decorated house after being discharged from the hospital, after brain surgery, in 2007 was so comforting. I do enjoy seeing what you really wear! Wonderful BFMD!
