Well I’m definitely getting a taste of winter. It started snowing here while we were listening to our church choir’s Christmas performance Sunday evening, and there’s been snow on the ground ever since. And baby, it’s cold outside! I finally understand the value of a good sweater! That’s why I’m sharing this pretty striped mock neck pullover with you today. It’s keeping me warm and happy!

This soft mock neck sweater comes in a variety of colors and stripe combinations. Of course, you know me. I tend to go with Georgia Bulldog red and black when it’s available. And I love that this combination includes wide stripes of ivory and soft grey, too.

My black jeans are from Christopher and Banks. They’re a nice straight, slightly tapered jean in a dark black wash. These jeans come in at a great price point, too.

I’ve been so excited to share with you my new sneakers. These black suede sneakers are completely lined with faux fur, keeping my feet toasty warm and cushioned. They’re also available in a medium brown and a dark green, but I like how these black ones pair so easily with my black jeans. Best of all, these sneakers are 60% off right now. Wowsa! Plus, shipping and returns are always free with Nordstrom, so that’s a great deal.

I picked up my pom pom hat on the way out the door, realizing how cold it was outside. (Taking photos has become quite challenging!) Isn’t this beanie a cute addition to this outfit? And you know what they say about keeping your head warm…

As this year comes to a close, I’ve been thinking a lot about whether or not I accomplished my goals. One of my goals was to create a wardrobe that works for me, using trimmed down neutrals and signature colors. While I haven’t been completely true to my own guidelines, I’ve pretty much narrowed down the colors in my closet. And I’m enjoying how easy it is to mix and coordinate things like this pretty sweater because I have the right essentials in my closet.

If you’ve been with me all year, how have you done with narrowing down the colors in your closet? Has that made it easier to create pretty outfits? Are you enjoying your wardrobe? Is it working for you? I’d love to hear from you today!

Blessed for My Day

As my daughter gathered her ingredients for a hashbrown casserole to take to her small group Christmas party, she realized she hadn’t gotten any sour cream. She had to return to the store for the carton before she could cook her casserole. Needless to say, she was a little frustrated. I guess that’s the common reaction to coming up short. Wouldn’t you say?

Truth is, I come up short at least a few times daily. I was missing a sock as I folded laundry this morning. My numbers were down in my pageviews last week. I don’t have quite all the ingredients to any one thing I’d like to prepare for dinner. And I’m missing a few pictures I need for tomorrow’s blog post. I’m coming up short.

Mary came up short when she gave birth to the Christ child. And yet she held in her arms everything she needed for life. Maybe she knew that as she made do with the hay in a feeding trough. Maybe we could remember that today as we come up short on the little things in life, too. In our hearts, we have everything – every One – we need for life. Instead of focusing on how we’re short, let’s focus on all we have in Christ.

And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. ~ Luke 2:6-7

  1. Adorable ensemble Kay!!!! Of course I like your beanie because I probably have maybe one hundred hats that are all different shapes, sizes and colors. You know, I never have counted how many I have….I don’t think I want too LOL!!! Amen to BFMD. Enjoy your day. ~Lisa~

  2. Love this look Kay, So classic and the beanie is a great accessory! Beauty for my day is so true, I think we all come up short daily. The key is to learn from it and keep moving along.

  3. Adorable beanie and outfit! Love the whole combo, including the shoes! And the “Blessed for My Day” was just the message I needed this morning. Thank you for your transparency and heart, Kay!

  4. Love the wide stripes on the sweater and such a cute hat! Wish I could say I’m happy with my closet but still not there. I always seem to get drawn to all kinds of colors. But then again I wear blue jeans most of the time and they usually go with everything in my closet.

The show you’re watching sounds like something I’d enjoy. We don’t have the Smithsonian channel or Amazon Prime (we have Hulu, Netflix and Disney plus) but I do plan on getting Amazon prime when Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn release their new Project Runway type show “Making the Cut” on Prime next year, then I’ll be sure to check this one out.

  5. Kay, You look great in the beautiful sweater and outfit! If I lived in an area where I needed more sweaters, this one would be a real contender. While I have improved the colors in my closet, it’s not exactly where it should be. I believe that part of my challenge is that I keep a large selection of short sleeve tops, in darker colors, in my closet year round, which makes my closet feel cramped. However, I can say that I am definitely happier with the colors of my clothes, so Thank You! At times, I also get frustrated and feel like I’ve come up short on something. I’ll say that, “I am a work in progress!” Have a blessed day!

  6. I love this sweater! Thanks for the encouraging words today. Since having a stroke in August, I have been coming up short a lot, but I have Jesus walking with me and watching over me each day, so I have all I need! He has sent total strangers to offer encouraging words and hugs! I am so blesses! Thanks for reminding me!Merry Christmas. Here in Ohio, I always want a little snow for Christmas, but we just never know what the day will bring weather wise! You sure are accumulating a beautiful wardrobe of pretty sweater for winters in Ohio!

    1. Ahh, thanks for sharing Janice. I’m so sorry for the struggle you’re enduring. But I know God is surely working good in your life and others through this difficult season. Bless you. And thanks so much for sharing. ?

  7. Kay, this look is classic, young, and adorable! I like having black jeans that will go with everything. The sweater has a Christmas look to it without screaming for the holidays only. The beanie hat makes the outfit look young and is so stinking cute. Thank you again for the tips and the encouragement from God’s Word.
