It’s So Easy Wearing Green

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I doubt I’ll be getting out and about today, but I’ll still probably put on this pretty green three-quarter length sleeve t-shirt I’m sharing today. Why not? It’s so easy wearing green!

While I love the casual styles of the spring jackets I shared in yesterday’s post, I have to admit that I’m reaching for my trench jackets more and more these days. So it was a no-brainer to top this casual jeans and t-shirt outfit with my short neutral colored trench coat.

neutral trench coat

This trench came out in the fall, but it’s still in stock and considerably marked down. I’m wearing my usual small in Talbots jackets. I balked at ordering it at first because it’s not lined. But it turns out that it’s a very nice weight without the lining, and the construction is good quality otherwise.

My green three-quarter length sleeve t-shirt is super soft and comfortable, but it also keeps its shape beautifully. I’m wearing a small and it fits nicely. The t-shirt comes in over 15 colors, but mine is Kelly green…of course! The bateau neck tee is 100% Pima cotton.

I tucked my tee in to create the best proportions with my cropped full leg jeans (more on those in a bit). So I decided to add a Kelly green belt just to pull this look together a little more. It’s amazing how much an interesting belt can add to an outfit. And now that we’re wearing jeans and pants with a high rise (these come to my navel), most of us can wear a belt more easily than we might assume. I’m wearing a medium belt and it’s available in twelve shades.

Green t-shirt

I kept my jewelry simple. I could have worn a longer necklace for sure. But I decided a shorter pairing would draw attention up to my face…and my green eyes! I’m wearing this dainty palm necklace and this pave round mini pendant necklace in green. Both are marked down considerably, but the pave necklace is only available in red and blue now. Also, both necklaces are adjustable, something I look for these days.

To complete my jewelry, I added a simple gold bangle (option) and gold hoop earrings.

cropped wide leg jeans

I elected to wear these wide leg crop jeans at the last minute, but when I saw the photos I wished I’d stuck with the jeans I had originally meant to wear. The jeans I’d first chosen to wear in this look are a little shorter, so I think they look more intentionally cropped. On the other hand, the jeans I’m wearing here would probably look better with heels, as seen on the Ann Taylor website. But they’re perfectly fine. I just think I’d like the shorter length with flats. What do you think?

Both pairs of jeans, the wide leg crop jeans from Talbots and the wide leg crop jeans from Ann Taylor seen here, fit true to size (for my pants size, not my usual jean size) and are extremely comfortable…once you get use to the high rise. I have an 8 in both.

neutral pointy toe shoes

I’ve been so excited to share these shoes with you. If you’re looking for a comfortable, neutral colored shoe for spring, this could be it. The pointy toe is on trend and the color goes with absolutely everything. But these Sperry Saybrook slingback mules are also extremely comfortable, featuring a Memory Foam insole and a comfortable strap that stays in place as you walk. I’ve linked you to the Sperry store where the slingbacks are fully stocked in four pretty shades, but they’re also available at Nordstrom in limited sizes.

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably repeat it many times to come, but we’ve just got to adjust our eyes a bit for these wide leg jeans. No, they don’t create the same silhouette as skinny or even straight leg jeans, but they’re very modern. And I love how cool and comfortable they feel. I can guarantee you I’ll be wearing wide leg jeans a whole lot more frequently than I wear skinny jeans during the warmer months.

Really, I think this is such a classic but very modern look. I was extremely comfortable in it, too. But that shouldn’t surprise me. After all, it’s so easy wearing green!

Blessed for My Day

While I do spend time petitioning God on behalf of my loved ones and my church family, I find it’s really more assuring to me if I change my prayers to praises and confessions of faith sooner rather than later. When I ask God to work I generally end up telling Him what to do. I don’t think those prayers go very far. Ha! And they certainly don’t help my disposition.

But when I put down my petitions and pick up with praises for who God is, what He has done before and what His Word promises, I actually “come into His presence.” Plus, my fears subside and that murmur of anxiety quiets as my gaze shifts from the circumstances to the God who holds it all in His hands. Today, let’s confess that God is our refuge, our fortress, the One in whom we trust.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” ~ Psalm 91:1-2

xoxo, Kay

  1. Morning!! Sweet post and the green looks so great on you. Thanks for another calming message in your Blessed for my Day.

  2. Great pictures and you do look fabulous in green! Since green isn’t a good color for me, I’m wearing an aqua top today. While this outfit is very nice, I think it would look even better with jeans that show more of your ankles. And you could try a belt to coordinate with your shoes, for a change. Do the shoes have any arch support? I hope that you are able to get out and walk again today! It’s good for the body and the mind.

  3. I have some wide leg crop jeans and I love them! Green is my favorite color. So I love your outfit. God inhabits the praise of His people!

    1. Yes, darker sandals would definitely elongate the leg. I’m 5’8″ so I don’t worry about that too much. Plus, I just really wanted to share these particular shoes, hahaha! But I think your suggestion is right on target. Thanks for sharing.

      1. I think emerald green works on lots of people and the belt matching the pants makes my waist look longer. I can sure use help there. These seem to ev he exact jeans I wore way back when. I was wondering what you think makes them modern. As always, love the BOTD post.

        1. Hahaha! Well they’re modern simply because this is what is trending right now. Remember everything eventually cycles back around. And right now the whole 60s – 70s vibe is really big. So it’s not just the wide leg, but also the wide hem and the patch pockets we see on many pants that is very of the moment.

  4. I think the jeans and the entire outfit look fabulous! LOVE the green! My eyes are beginning to adjust….!

  5. Dear Outdoorsy Kay,

I want to comment on walking and exercising outside while living in the north, and in almost any kind of weather! It has its rewards, as I can testify from experience! It makes us tough, in a good way, of course.

We are northerners and Cincinnatians originally, having spent most of our lives in the Midwest, but now live in the south. My husband and I are fitness walkers, and truly we walk in almost any weather, hot, cold, wet, or dry. We’ve picked our way gingerly through icy and snowy streets, wrapped to the gills against frigid temps just to get our walk in. We used to walk our dogs at night through snowy woods and the reflectivity of the snow even in a suburban setting made the walks delightful.

I applaud you, Kay, and all your fellow Cincinnatians, for getting out there! Cincy is a great town, and I hope you’ll come to feel at home there.

And…you look delightful and springy in your green! Thanks for being a bright spot in our days:-)

    1. Thanks so much for sharing that perspective, Julie. I’ve really been inspired by these tough Cincy exercisers. I got out there again for a walk when we had a beautiful but brief respite from the clouds this evening. And I’m so glad I did. People were out in full force and it was delightful. Of course we all kept our distance from each other. I even passed by one culdesac where several couples were out having a conversation and they were strewn out as though they were playing some sort of game. But alas they were just social distancing.

And we absolutely love it here. Have felt at home from the moment we moved in. Thanks again for sharing, Julie! ☺️
